We do. It's mandatory to carry liability insurance for being on the road in every state and country I've ever been in.

Mandating and making it "universal coverage" are not the same.

That's what you're proposing, "universal", aka single payer, isn't it?

Re: POTUS 45: 28 - Yo Memo So Stupid, Donald Renamed it "Eric"

Hell yes. It’s time for the grandest non-scientific government experiment since the New Deal to take place.

So that excuses you being a selfish dickwad along with the rest of your Republican...err...Fark Independent(tm) crew?

One must live in the world as it is, not as you wish it.

Life, the world, is not fair.

Proof: We're all going to die.

Also the way every other industrialized nation does it.
And guess what, they all spend less and have better health outcomes than we do.
Spending some time reading the OECD data would be an eye opener for many.

I’m guessing we would be the most complex single payer system in the world by a wide margin. The area, population density, diversity of population, total population, and any number of other measures make it an incredibly complex task.

It would be the greatest feat since Social Security. I would even say it would surpass SS and thr New Deal as the greatest government program in the history of the world if enacted.

Care and insurance are seperate

Mookie remembers when IT was referred to as "hospitalization. Enough to cover one if they went in. Dr bill's and scripts were paid out of pocket.
Much like university tuition, once people took their eyes off the bill costs were allowed to ramble wherever they wanted.

Care needs to be universal

Insurance needs to be there to help cover costs that are out of the ordinary.

We also perhaps need death panels. Crazy how the majority of spending (total) is for the last month and first month of life.

"When your old and your ripe, it's time to go"

Agreed and I think we’d need to tackle other things at the same time. Open up for more pharma cost negotiations. Stop fee for service, use reference pricing or bundled payments. I’d like to see doctors paid less, and not having to pay and arm and a leg for med school and spend half their day on insurance work . Paid maternity leave for mothers.
Our costs will go down if people have access to primary care.

I’m with you on everything except pay for service. I struggle with that because I think it would also scare away doctors from cases where the diagnosis is difficult to find or it’s even idiopathic in nature. How do you pay for difficult cases?

I actually laughed out loud when I read it because of that implication. Total brain fart.

Fee for service rewards utilization- I think we need to invent them to be as efficient as possible.
What do you mean by difficult?

Re: POTUS 45: 28 - Yo Memo So Stupid, Donald Renamed it "Eric"

Where the disease is hard to diagnose or is resistant to treatment. Things like that.

Re: POTUS 45: 28 - Yo Memo So Stupid, Donald Renamed it "Eric"

You’re right. It was absurd. It’s actually Medicaid.

Typo on my part.

ok then, that is ridiculous!! over half of the births in this country are to people who don't work or can't afford conventional health coverage?!?!?

Half this country lives around the poverty line.
