Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

There isn’t a country on earth that can go it alone nowadays. If the world decides its had enough of any country, that country would struggle mightily.

100 years ago the US could do it. Not anymore.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

Everyone who needs something will now go to the Chinese, as they're more reliable. They'll exact more of a price then we did, but so be it. We chose to elect a toddler.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

a country would have to

feed itself [check]
furnish power (electricy/heat/etc) [check]
defend itself [check]

what else?

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

Seriously. There would be rioting in the streets within a month if the world cut us out. And I’m being generous.

We should go back to isolationist policies across the board. And then we should use the military to take what we want.

seriously. if there is an outbreak of plague tomorrow. the us could close up shop and survive. sure, there would no longer be $300 72in televisions.....

There also wouldn’t be smartphones. Einstein (or whatever wonk said it) had it wrong. It’s not the bees, it’s the iPhones.

We don’t have the national willpower to make it through an isolationist policy.

You do realize that the petrodollar economy is the only thing that keeps allowing us to borrow, right? If the US went it alone everybody would call in their chips. We'd have to cut spending and raise taxes dramatically, and all at once, to not go bankrupt. There would be simultaneous revolutions from above when the 1% lost their perks and from below when the poors lost their government cheese and all the cheap labor goods they can buy from Wal-Mart.

We exist now at the sufferance of the world. The 1% sold our independence on the money market. We are utterly non-viable as a economy anymore without a global market for our debt.

Correct. That's why we take it.

What debt? We just wipe it clean. You think we're actually going to pay China? LOL.

WINNING :D

so again, tomorrow there is an outbreak of plague. who has a better chance of survival other than the US? mookie thinks china has a greater need of imports than the US. sure myanmar may have a better chance, but the US is up there in the top 3. at lesser levels the US could feed itself, defend itself, and keep the lights on. in the extreme what would the US need?

This would be right out of ‘The Mandibles.’

We are not talking about a plague, we're talking about self-immolation. Yes, we could survive without the rest of the world, but we sure as hell wouldn't thrive. Queue up Ben Stein from Ferris Bueller, but the aftermath of Smoot Hawley should give you an idea of how bad it could get. And it'd be entirely self-inflicted.

See, it flows like this. Somewhere along the line the civilized World decided Trade instead of Conquest would be the way to get things that they needed or wanted. But, right now with President Toddler we don't like what that means. Especially being the Big Boy on the block. See, being the Big Boy takes a lot of patience and understanding, and a lot of putting up with BS (Iran, North Korea) that you don't want to deal with.

Now, with President Toddler we've decided to use our power in the World to bully other countries around when we don't like what they think.

So, now the World is as unstable as it's ever been in my lifetime. Even when I watched "The Day After" as a young lad I don't remember being as fearful of the World as I am now.

as just as likely to happen as an outbreak of plague. tD is nuts, but would be tolerated to keep the new world order humming along. too many world wide 1%'ers need the status quo to keep on keeping on.

All that would need to happen would be the rest of the world deciding to conduct economic business using some other currency than the US dollar.
