Right now the triangle trade that supports American hegemony is oil --> debt denominated in dollars --> weapons (and the direct application of the US military to protect corporate assets). If any one of those legs collapses, show's over. So, yes, if the dollar is demoted from the world's principal reserve currency we are completely and unalterably f-cked.
But. Who is "we"?
The collapse of that system might be better for the 99% in the long run, since as long as the current system persists the wealthy will continue to immiserate the rest of us by taking on public debt in order to support their ever greater private accumulation of global assets. We are inside a huge con. I don't know if there's any way out of it -- even if we butchered the entire 1% tomorrow and nationalized their assets we'd still have the problem of establishing an equitable and workable economy. What does life after Wall Street even look like?

It is both sad and scary that the last page of this discussion contains far more analytical thinking than Trump gave to the policy statement that triggered it. And the entire Republican party is currently telling him his clothes look wonderful.

I would never want to actually see it, but I think we could potentially get on much better now than we did back then. We can produce a lot with very little human labor. I'm not sure how we would do as far as rare minerals and things like that though.

Random thought. I bent over tonight to pick something up off the floor and spent a few seconds grumbling to myself how painful chronic hip and back pain can be. Thought for a brief moment that I wished my wife, for one, could inhabit my body for a time to understand it better, though she is very sympathetic. On the heels of that thought, it occurred to me that I probably ought to inhabit her mind for a time to more fully understand some of the emotional pain she has suffered from some things in her past which still occasionally burden her. I'd be a better partner for it.
Empathy makes us more complete people. It allows us to better understand what it is to be human. It may be a quality more critical for success as a teacher or social worker, but I don't think it is wasted on our leaders.

There's plenty of research demonstrating that wealth and empathy are inversely proportional. (Left as an exercise for the reader which way the causal arrow runs.) There should be a maximum wealth for political office. Beyond that line most people simply lack the ability to identify with those they are supposed to serve and are emotional unfit for office.

No they dont. Try as much as you want to convince yourself otherwise but Bibi and the Right there are not Trump and the Right here. (they arent even Dubya and his version of the Right...probably cloest to HW Bush) I know that goes against what Daily Kos or some Uber Liberal Intellectual said at a speech one time but take it from someone who knows first hand. (and I mean it, first hand because my uncle is to the Right of Bibi) They dont want war killing anymore than anyone else does if it means Israelis are put in harms way.

The funny thing is, Bibi is kinda right in a sick way. He know Israel can either be a democracy or a Jewish state, but not both. He's picking door #2 and OK, fine. Personally I'd have built my Jewish state on the Upper West Side. Then they could have kept the democracy, too, and Christ like anyone woulda noticed.
Until somebody figures out how to clone Jerusalem and gives one to each primitive iron age sect that demands it, Israel will be either a tolerant but decreasingly Jewish state or a Jewish but increasingly totalitarian state. The second choice is not sustainable without a genocide of one side or the other.

Seriously if you just change a few words around it is the same rant and that is in no way a compliment. (your use of apartheid proves you literally know zero about what life is like in any part of Israel nor how Palestinians are actually treated there)
But keep on believing that Israel is the Big Bad because some Hippy Dippy Snowflakes in their Safe Places said so. I mean they also wear Che Guevara shirts and stink of petuli and probably have never left the confines of their home town let alone gone to the Middle East...but I bet they took a World Affairs class once as an undergrad so they truly get it! Meanwhile actual facts dont actually bear it out. It reminds me of something a man told me while I was in Egypt...I informed him that my father warned me not to tell anyone I was a Jew because even in Egypt (this was before the Arab Spring) Muslims would kill a Jew if they could. This was of course ludicrous and I pretty much told everyone. (the amount of love I received was insane...its a shame what happened a year later) Well one day after seeing a thousand year old Mosque and a 600 year old church we went to a 500 year old synagogue. As I was telling him about my father he replied "that is all stupid lies and propaganda. We dont hate Jews, we dont hate Israel." I was a bit befuddled because at this point Bibi had ****ed off enough of the liberal press in the West to make Israel seem like the totalitarian you make him out to be Kepler. He said that was all Western BS, that for the most part in that part of the world they really just dont give a crap. He then lamented all of the Jews that left Cairo in the 80s because it killed a lot of the diversity. He wasnt some moderate either, he was a practicing Bedouin who held the Quran in high esteem.
Look Israel isnt the shining light of love and democracy, but it isnt Apartheid South Africa either. Want proof...despite the fact that apparently Israel wants to slaughter all Palestinians and keep them in ghettos and such...ever since the creation of the Israeli Congress (Knesset) there have been Arab/Muslim members. In fact the second longest tenured member currently behind Shimon Perez is an Israeli Muslim. (who is also Deputy Speaker) Two former Deputy Ministers and the current Deputy Minister are also Muslims. There is even a female Muslim in Knesset. Now lets see, how does that compare to say...the US? It took until 2007 for the US to have a Muslim member of Congress. (that is only 3.5 times longer...no biggie) Even if you break it down to the states...how many Muslims are there? You can count them on one hand. Look at how Muslims are persecuted all around Europe...hell look at how Muslims treat their own. (Palestinians biggest enemy is every other Muslim) Israel, despite apparently Bibi being the second coming of Mussolini, gives them basic human rights including the right to vote and hold office. In America we barely let Black people do that...
tl;dr: step away from what people want you to think and think for yourself. Or better yet, get on a plane and go there yourself. You would be surprised how much reality veers off from what we think so many thousands of miles away.
