This is genuinely interesting.

I recommend the whole thing, but here it is in a nuthsell: family arguments about Dump aren't about Dump, they're personal arguments in disguise. So stay the f-ck away from the subject.

I'm not sure what that implies about actually running campaigns against the GOP in 2018 and against Dump himself in 2020. It may be that we need to find other things to talk about and just allow the poison of Dump to serve as a sort of ambient stink without actually lighting it on fire. This would also help us concentrate on our positive messages about economic and social justice -- give people a reason to vote for us rather than just against the Dump party -- something I think we all agree is vital.

Disagree. Every single solitary Republican elected official AND voter needs to be completely lumped with Chump every chance a Dem gets. Why? Because if they weren't completely in favor of him personally and his agenda, they would have left the party long ago. They own him, and waiting around for the press to point out his failings and not bow down to the False Equivalency gods is a strategic blunder and a waste of time. You backed Trump? You own him, and don't get upset when I remind you of it even if it is at Thanksgiving!

Now get out there and spread The Word, Brother Kepler.

Association is one thing. Direct confrontation will only drive the splinter deeper in.

Figure a third of the country has adopted Dump as their personal middle finger to us. They'll default on their mortgage and let their children die of diphtheria as long as we're unhappy. They are beyond help

A third of the country reads the papers -- hell, can read at all -- and loathes Dump. We'll vote in every election to rid ourselves of this inept, unfit loser.

The other third are the ones who matter. A lot of them live in Central PA and smell like Dumpies -- low education, low SES, white. They like country music and have an instinctively racist reaction to the "N. F. L." But they are also vaguely aware that Dump is a con man and he has no interest in their well-being. They are not lost.

So we can reach them with aspirational and positive messaging. But hammering at them about Dump won't separate them from Dump, they will fall back into the gravity well for being challenged on cultural identity.

The only people we would get mileage out of by ragging on Dump are already with us.

So Dump helps us as ambient noise, but not if we directly attack him. Just run as if he didn't exist, and let his awfulness creates waves that help push people towards us.

This is the evil SF creature who eats energy: if we fire weapons at it, it only gets stronger.

Yeah, I just don't think that's going to work. Sitting around and waiting for people to realize what's going on is sorta what the Kerry campaign did, and that didn't turn out too well. I don't think 33% of the country is on the fence. I doubt its more than 2-3% regarding Trump. Getting the people who are already with us to VOTE is the trick. That requires something called "Trump Shaming" to unite the left in one common battle - crush every idiot who votes with or for Chump unless of course they admit their error. I have little faith people will come to this conclusion on their one.

One little flaw with your strategy: People are sick of the name calling and shaming. You already tried that with your recent "god" calling half the voters deplorable. You have nothing to stand behind, aside from "not that". Is it any wonder why every other country has been kicking our *** when it comes to ingenuity?

You are misunderstanding. We need a strong magnet to attract voters. Waiting would be depending on the repulsion of Dump to bring us voters. We learned in 2016 that is not enough. We must also give people a reason to vote for us.

Personally I would like to see a high level statement of principles: to restore the middle class, to restrain the worst predations of the wealthy, polluters, and financial criminals. To end foreign interference in our elections and end the political dominance of money. To repatriate American tax dollars, and to restore balance to our spending priorities by severely limiting military sending and ending all corporate welfare. I know you don't think that's se-xy enough, but I haven't seen a better idea. I believe good old class warfare will work (as well as make a better world). If you have a better idea, let's hear it.

We know exactly how many votes Trump will get because it is roughly the same number Romney and McCain got. (and it is the 35% that still love him) We need to make sure every Dem/Lefty/Independent realizes if they stay home or if they vote outside the party then they own Trump as much as the GOP does.

We need a strong platform...but we also need to make sure that anyone who is wishy washy realizes what their floundering leads too.

You know what's ironic? For the majority of what you're asking for, you're going to see pretty much a carbon copy of Turmp's policies. Perhaps they'd mean more to you if the person saying it had a D at the end of the name? ;)
