I am not going to agree that they should have been left in China. No matter how entitled and stupid they may be.

Good Glory. He should have lobbied to get them out because he is the prez and it was what a prez should do. It doesn't matter what the parents or kids did afterward. It would be nice if they said thank you but it shouldn't make a difference for his behavior. I can't believe people are sucked even thinking about whether he is right or wrong for calling anyone out. Grown ups don't behave like this and the best way to treat a toddler tantrum is to leave them kicking and screaming in the grocery aisle.

Use Chrome? Get the "Make Trump's Tweets Eight Again" extension. Converts all of his Tweets into perfect crayon scrawl:

The elder Mr. Ball owes a simple (and acceptably curt, and sure, private works) "thank you" for keeping his son out of a Chinese jail but nothing more; but, he does owe that much.

Why?

Because Mr. Trump could have (should have?) left those lads in a Chinese prison.

What bothers me here is the elder Mr. Ball's apparent acceptance of shoplifting ("no big deal") by his child. Role model. Father of the year.

Why couldn't UCLA have been playing Singapore instead? ;)

So again you're agreeing with the President's poutrage (suggesting they be left behind) even though the kids themselves apologized and gave thanks?

I’d say everything from about 18-28 I’d do things a lot differently.

I bought my house at around 28 I think and that was when I feel like I started making smart decisions for the first time in my life.

Though days like today where you have to take a half day off work to finish year end yard work make me question that *grumble* *grumble*

It doesn't bother you that the POTUS acts more like an emperor than a public servant?

No, I'm saying the elder Mr. Ball could've been the better man with a curt "thank you".

"... acts like an emperor ..."

You're afraid of a guy who poutrages via Tweet?

If he was an "emperor" there'd be sheer Hell to pay for a dead USCBP agent. Instead he'll keep chirping about "walls" and try to make an artful deal. An emperor would send in his praetorian guard and leave nothing but smoldering rubble.*

*Praise < your favorite deity here > that I'm not the guy in charge.

It's only now that I feel I'm making smarter decisions. Hell, not running since July is one of the best decisions I've made ever.

Having an okay job for once helps.

I think Bell the senior should have apologized, along with the parents of the other two idiots, for raising sons that would so something so idiotic as to shoplift in a foreign country when there representing their school. I was mad when I saw the Trump was going to intervene on their behalf. But, OK, it's something he probably should have done. His whining about not getting the reaction he wanted is so typical of him and made me a little glad that Bell the senior responded like that. He's as much of an *** as the President. They both need to go away.

Why should we even know or care about what the elder Ball did? In a normal time the kids would have thanked the Prez and everyone would have moved on
