Agree.

A formal dementia diagnosis in ND is reported to the DOT/Driver's License Division. However, most folks don't end up getting that diagnosis until after something negative has happened.

Possibly. That might also be a good place to start. I would assume that the overlap is fairly significant, though maybe not. I think there really should be a link to any of these databases. And conversely, maybe the data should flow the other way too? If you're too crazy to own a gun, maybe there should be an automatic evaluation if you should receive benefits? I haven't really thought through that.

Can we step back from that language just a bit? (Not aimed at just you dx.)

My parent has been diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimer's type) most likely due to micro TIAs near the hippocampus. They can play whist and other card games (and win). They can have a reasonable conversation with me or someone new they meet. However, they can't tell you what we were talking about ten seconds ago. (No short term memory.)

They aren't "crazy". They have a diagnosed medical condition. And they don't have a driver's license because of it.

What I get is to take care of someone (I'm on Year 7) who will die from the effects of this condition.

I think we are all just using "crazy" as shorthand for incapacitated. But point taken that it's insensitive. I sincerely apologize.

I get that. No apologies necessary.

What folks forget is that there is dementia and delirium. They are easily confused, even by the pros. One is acute; one is chronic.
