Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.
I actually hope that doesn't happen and it's going to be extremely ugly if it does but that's what happens when large swaths of the population refuse to think, adapt, change. It can't be 1955 forever. (So much irony in the derps hating Islamic extremists for wanting to go back to the 7th century when they operate under the same delusions, just picking a different point in the past they want to go back to.) It doesn't help that you have an industry of charlatans - Fox, Coulter, Murdoch, etc. - who cynically profit off re-enforcing those delusions. And it REALLY doesn't help when you have a collection of let them eat cake oligarchs who can't see that draining every last drop out of the economy isn't a smart play long term. But at some point, people need to own some of the consequences of their decisions and beliefs.
So yeah, mayors, bulwark against tRumpism, hugely outsize affect on the country - Boston has an influence radius of at least 50 miles reaching into at least 3 states - I can't say I know many of them myself but they're one of the main things standing between us and the hinterland nihilists who want to go Christian Sharia, anarchy, full Somalia on us.
Because I'd say mayors, and cities, are one of the strengths of the Democratic party right now, and probably will only become more so. I've had this thought in the back of my mind for a while now that we're gravitating toward being more a collection of city states, like the old Florence, Venice, Rome model than we are a country or even a collection of states. It's not there yet but it's moving toward people in NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, Boston having more in common with people in London, Paris, even Tokyo than they do with people in Elko, NV or Joplin, MO.Why would I have heard of the mayors of any city? It's a miracle I've heard of de Blasio. I literally can't name the mayor of DC and it's 15 miles from my house.
