Boston Police and Mass State Police roughing up the alt-left(or whatever you call it) right now.

Re: POTUS 45.17 - Section 4 of Amendment 25

I say burn them all and send the ashes to Russia.

This sounds so Clinton-esque, and I apologize. Define "all." EVERY monument/memorial relating to US history?

Yes, I know your cynicism is on fleek right now. ;)

They are called the Left. Unlike the White Nationalist GOPers who are afraid to call themselves what they are and have to come up with code names (i.e. the Alt Right) the Left doesnt have to do that.

Re: POTUS 45.17 - Section 4 of Amendment 25

*snicker* I see some on Twitter are pushing a photo from London riots a few years back as "Look at the evil Leftists with their beatin' sticks!!"

Even though Boston PD wasn't allowing anything stick shaped and did (from what I quickly searched on Twitter) a Hell of a job with crowd control today.

I think there is a mix of leftists, anarchists, probably some communists, and a bunch of progressives. None of them are afraid of the labels.

~20,000 people showed up in Boston to counter-protest this:

Were there even 50 "free speech" demonstrators there? LOL

Re: POTUS 45.17 - Section 4 of Amendment 25

I'm reading apparently the gazebo gang didn't bring any PA equipment and thus had trouble hearing each other?

Trump called the 20,000 "anti-police agitators"

Trump called the 20,000 "anti-police agitators"

That explains all of the stories of counter-protestors helping guide ralliers through the barricades. And the whopping 8 reported arrests out of 20K people!

Re: POTUS 45.17 - Section 4 of Amendment 25

Okay, let's go with 10 years from now, where will we be? Enough time for changes to be made, but not enough time for a full generational swing.

Ten years from now all the confederate statues will be gone in the free states except the ones on battlefields that memorialize the fallen. In a few places like Portland or Cambridge slave-owners' statues will probably removed in the same way that, say, Yale renamed a building named after a slaveholder, but that won't catch on nationally because Washington and Jefferson were slave-owners and we're keeping them.

In the slave states, very little will change. The GOP will use this as a way to milk votes from the hicks just like they did with gay marriage and trans bathrooms. It's their same old strategy of appealing to fear and bigotry to screen an agenda that calls for cutting the taxes of the rich and rolling back worker and consumer protections. This will allow a lot of dingbats in a lot of dingbat districts to tub thump and raise money.

He is so pathetic.

I watched a little CNN, and they were showing the counter protesters chanting "black lives matter".

I wonder what the "free speech" crowd were saying. Nobody stopped them from talking, just from hearing each other.

LOL- the police commissioner is pointing out that the only violence was when they (the police) escorted the "free speech" ralliers out of the Boston Common.

Sure doesn't sound like the police were that upset with the counter protesters. Heck he mentioned that the counter protesters were there for the right reasons.

Oh, and some of the "free speech" guys were armed. He mentioned some had protective vests and at least one gun was confiscated.

One wonders who wanted the violence.

You don't have to answer this if you don't want, and there is no hidden agenda here, but keeping Washington/Jefferson, is that due to their relevance in American history, do you think (in terms of the general populace's thoughts, not you personally)?

For me, once that ball is rolling, and it's rolling and it sucks...I don't think we can pick and choose. Once something is set, it's set. Unfortunately, the Confed monuments became more about racism/slavery than being a traitor. To keep.........credibility, for lack of a better term....if racism/slavery is the base requirement for removal of a monument/statue....we're in for some long times ahead.

I appreciate everyone's input, it's good to hear from all sides of the debate. Thank you. :)

Re: POTUS 45.17 - Section 4 of Amendment 25

BTW, saw on the Tweeter machine, and made me laugh:

Why tear down statues? Just change all the plaques to read: "Get a load of this dumb, dead a*hole and his bullsh* horse."

What else is he going to say? He'd be burned at the stake if he said anything negative about the alt-left. Part of it was taking the alt-right crowd out, but a lot of it too me looked like alt-left looking to have a confrontation with the police.

The rally reinforced my views on what is happening. You basically have three groups; people who strictly oppose nazis and are there for the right reason, alt-right, and alt-left. The first group are wonderful people who we are lucky to have in this country. The latter two should be denounced by everyone else who isn't part of them.

Peacefully denounce, I might add. Granted, the alt-right are more apt to start sh*, but the alt-left aren't angels, either.
