And how well did "just ignore them!" work 70 or so years ago?

Wasn't part of that leftover resentment from WWI? It's important to learn from history, but it seems sometimes people draw connections when the situations aren't that relevant.

Edit: For me the simple solution is to just ban these events.

70 years ago crap got out of hand because Hitler decided to annex Austria, occupy Czechoslovakia, invade Poland and start rounding up jews to send to death camps. When these clowns in Unite the Right make even the first move to do anything remotely similar, I'll join you in encouraging a responsive action.

Sorry, but in this country you actually do have to sit and listen to people spew the most vile, bigoted, awful statements their small minds can formulate. Or you can walk away. But if they want to say it, they get to say it.

They can learn it anywhere. Christ right now go on Twitter and just do the #charlottesville and half the posts are white people blaming the media, George Soros and everything else. Go to 4chan some time and read the crap spewed there. Kid reads that at say 14 when he is angry and lonely and there you go.

Meanwhile we are trying to ban Muslims from the country when it is MethHead McWhitebread from Smalldick, Montana that is causing all the problems.

Because personally I think the answer was a pretty resounding "no." An innocent girl got killed. Some dip**** from Ohio who was apparently at least modestly serviceable and employable ruined his own life while still in his twenties. Innocent people were maimed. Families were devastated. A bunch of white supremacists got days worth of national and international publicity for a parade that likely would not have been reported outside of Virginia if everyone had ignored them.

But I'm willing to be persuaded that it was a big weekend for truth, justice and the American Way, if someone wants to take a shot at it.

Let me answer your question with a question. Were the Civil Rights marches in the 1960s failures because the Rednecks didnt change their mind and hundreds ended up maimed or worse? Should they have all stayed home since they werent going to change anything anyways? (it isnt like certain people in a certain party in a certain part of the country dont try and suppress the Black vote at all anymore right)

You know I always hear from people how people should stand up for their convictions in the face of bullies or worse. I very rarely ever hear someone say "eh leave it be you cant stop it so jkust walk away". That is literally what you are saying these people should have done. They should have ceded their city (many of them lived/worked there) and their beliefs because the Rednecks are just not going to learn. What a cowardly ideal and something that is the opposite of everything this country stands for...

No...it would be ignored. You get in the bullies face you dont curse them behind their back and hope they go away.

They best keep the scorin' to touchdowns though, and not our daughters, or else they'll be some "2nd Amendment remedyin'" to go 'round.

Long as they know their place, and the white boys are at the top. Can't have them playing QB ya know, it would mean the end of our Western Civilization values.

Not to make light of this post or anything, but I'm interested to see if other NFL players do the same thing this season as Kapernick.
