California Crops Rot as Immigration Crackdown Creates Farmworker Shortage

Vegetable prices may be going up soon, as a shortage of migrant workers is resulting in lost crops in California.

Farmers say they're having trouble hiring enough people to work during harvest season, causing some crops to rot before they can be picked. Already, the situation has triggered losses of more than $13 million in two California counties alone, according to NBC News.

The ongoing battle about U.S. immigration policies is blamed for the shortage. The vast majority of California's farm workers are foreign born, with many coming from Mexico. However, the PEW Research Center reports more Mexicans are leaving the U.S. than coming here.

Ya know, while this is kinda like trying to decide who to root for in the BC-Michigan '98 National Championship game, Chump goes have a point when it comes to Itch. Where exactly did McConnell get the reputation from the willing and compliant lamestream media for being a legislative genius? The last time I recall a GOP congress passing anything worthwhile into law was probably the Medicare prescription drug coverage and that was like in 2004 before he was Majority Leader. Knuckledraggers have been claiming for 7 years they had some brilliant plan to replace the ACA with something that lowers premiums, increases coverage, reduces taxes, reduces the debt, makes ugly guys look good to attractive females, and ensures the sun shines 365 days a year. Chump is right to call him out on that...

Yeah, those out-of-work coal miners should move to the central CA valley and start pickin'! Pick yourself up by the bootstraps, and get off the gubmint teat!

It worked so well in Grapes of Wrath.
