I've been thinking that for almost 10 years now. We fixate on what the stock market says, and it really has no bearing on our overall economy. Other than crashing it every once in a while.

Once a company sells it's shares to someone else- then the share price does not effect that company, and it reflects someone's opinion of that company. I've seen this company go from the high 30's to 1.40, and back up. The only real reflection was that our profits were low or negative. Other that we still sold product and developed new product to sell.

The problem with the stock market is how it reflects to banks. With our economy so heavily based on taking credit, every time that system makes a mistake and freezes up- that's when we have massive economic downturns. The last time was JUST because we made way, way too many homes. That's it. And so many people were speculative and inventive on how to package all of those bad loans. Where it got horrible was the massive packaging of all of those loans into things that were totally false. Once that was found out, then the market reacted, and the banks froze lending.

Why we lean so much onto that as a reflection of our greater economy is really odd to me. And somehow people don't get bothered by the stock market thinking our economy is humming along really well, when many people are struggling. Then we somehow think that a guy who made all his money on that odd system is going to fix the greater economic issues. How the heck did that happen?

Uh, I'm not so sure about that.

Usually when you have to cut jobs due to a declining market, that means the industry has overproduction. And that is commonly caused by all of the market players over growing trying to get the newer markets. The auto industry is a good example of that, given that it's probably the one with the largest number of OEM's operating in it.

Wheras the makers of cell phones don't really do that- and there's only a handful of them.

When the knucks complained endlessly about how crappy the economy was under Obama and how he was ruining it, the DJIA was ONE FACTOR that was pointed out as an indicator they were full of ****, but it was FAR from the only one that was used.

I still don't understand how anyone could have been dumb enough to vote for anyone other than Clinton in November. Those of us that predicted the disaster that a Trump presidency would be were laughed at by the likes of joe for "getting our panties in a twist before he even takes office". We knew what was coming, and if you had a brain you would have seen this too.

The problem being, most of the 60+ million who voted for him do not use their brains as God, or nature, intended. So they DIDN'T see this coming. What's worse is that they don't believe it is here. Things are going to get really interesting in this country when you have 40% of the people DEMANDING for the impeachment and removal of the president and another 40% who are stupid enough to believe not only has he done nothing wrong, he's actually doing a great job. Remember, the trump supporters quitle literally do not believe anything unless trump tweets it.
