Yes, the Parish Council is made up of parishioners. If you want to run, you submit your name (I think, not sure if you are nominated). Notification of yearly election at a General Assembly. You can only vote if you're a dues paying member. They are truly a painful thing to sit through. I don't know how they determine offices.

Dr. Mrs. and I very briefly took a swing at joining UU (cuz, like them, we're atheists... ;) ) and it seemed like 98% of the activity of the church was forming and empowering committees most of which were groups about forming and empowering committees. So much so that I gather it-s a running good-natured joke.

A group of children at a Unitarian Universalist church school were trying to determine the sex of a rabbit. “There’s only one way to decide,” said one child, “let’s take a vote on it.”

JFK wrote that Senators are the ambassadors from the State to the Federal government. Somewhere that concept was lost (when they turned on the TV cameras?).

I belong to a congregation that is a hybrid of UU and Freie Gemeinde, known as Free Thinkers, in a building that was built by Free Thinkers in the mid 1800s. The Free Thinkers history brings just enough passion and resistance to orthodoxy to make it interesting, even to the point where small tensions occasionally arise in the congregation over "feel good" UU practices versus the more academic and contentious (and generally older) Free Thinkers. Having been raised in a fairly liberal but conventional Lutheran church with the ubiquitous tanned, nordic featured, California Jesus portrait in the basement, I am a little amused by the fact that in this congregation a portrait of Thomas Paine has taken its place.

Still, the humor you describe definitely applies.

I don't see how that changes whether they are elected by the people or the state legislature.

When did he say that? His son was KIA in 2010 (he is in fact the highest ranking officer to lose a child in combat during the Forever War) so he was probably not in the best of moods for awhile.

As long as he isn't active duty I'm fine with that in itself. Heck, we've had plenty of ex-generals who were president.

Being COS and S/DHS at the same time doesn't sound like a great idea. The former job is politics, the latter job is policy.

So with Priebus out, that pretty much eliminates any GOP influence in Trump's inner circle, right?

Why are the GOP members clinging so tightly to Donnie's coattails when he's eager to shed them?



It's going to be fantastic when it is confirmed that Trump was deep in debt/tied to Russia... And McConnell, Ryan, et al, have deep tangled ties to Trump and Trump properties...
