Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

Good thing science and research sucks because the places they do that have the highest rate of unplanned births, STDs etc.

The evangelical third of America is timeless and unchanging. It could be medieval Kiev or ancient Jericho. They have a pre-Old Testament mindset -- a Homeric stew of revenge, honor, rapine and fear of the old gods.

The "Christianity" of these places is a kind of idealized future that they dream of but never put in the work to achieve. That's why the self-described Christian portions of the country are the least Christian -- the most violent and debased -- in actuality. They're still trying to catch up with Abraham let alone Jesus.

I don't know about every generation, but I posit in most ways we are dumber now than we were 30 and 40 years ago. Sure we might have more raw knowledge, but we're still dumber.

We're seeing the mirror of what happened to the public high schools in the 60s and 70s. It appeared kids were getting dumber, but that was because in prior generations the dumb kids would drop out and work the farms and factories or join the army. Likewise, it now seems like we're inundated with a new wave of stupid people but in actuality they were always there, the internet now just connects them to us.

The Moon isn't closer, we just have a better telescope.

For those who so idiotically thought (Susan Sarandon) that elections don't have consequences.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/15/...-state-federal.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur

In a national vote widely viewed as a victory for conservatives, last year’s elections also yielded a win for liberals in eight states that legalized marijuana for medical or recreational use. But the growing industry is facing a federal crackdown under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has compared cannabis to heroin.

A task force Mr. Sessions appointed to, in part, review links between violent crimes and marijuana is scheduled to release its findings by the end of the month. But he has already asked Senate leaders to roll back rules that block the Justice Department from bypassing state laws to enforce a federal ban on medical marijuana.

Welcome back.

There are 8 people in the division I work in for my current employer. Among the 8 there are a total of 10 children. Most of us have kids, a couple don't, and all but 1 is beyond the normal age for having kids (our average age is 50 and 5 of us are over 50) so the odds are very much against many (or any, really) more kids in this group. We are all educated, all fairly financially secure, all intelligent, articulate, thinking people, and we're not going to replace ourselves. Those kinds of numbers are reversed for uneducated people who live with deep financial uncertainty, and people with too many kids and too little financial security vote based on their fears and not their logic.

That's too bad. Assuming none are married to each other and all of their spouses are decent too you go from 16 to 10. My wife and I are going to have kids within the next couple years and it definitely is intimidating. I figure I need to put away $500 per month per kid for college and even that might not be enough. I'm sure there will be plenty of other expenses too.

Imagine the most you can think of and then multiply by 3. If people did a cost analysis before having kids nobody would ever have kids. :p

Even with one child and two incomes in our household we still felt the pinch at times. Thank god she didn't have the grades to go to private school. ;)

It's expensive. Most expensive thing you'll ever do unless you're in the top 1%. Having two brings the multiplier up to 6. It's exponential. No question.

My 8 (almost 9) year old is getting his pallet expander placed at the orthodontist today. Yay for orthodontics costs (which my dental insurance only covers at 50%)!

All things considered yes, it's even more expensive than the house. So just imagine buying one extra house for every kid you have. Except the house poops itself for a few years, and then it acts snotty and does really stupid, worrisome stuff for about 4 years about midway through the mortgage.

And houses are expensive as well. The maintenance alone is enough to kill you.

We are not high wage earners, and we had Columbia, Emory, and Tulane. They got pretty good scholarships, worked, and got some fed loans, but still. Youngest is 24, and we're just now eating some meat with the beans.

LOL. Truth.

I remember that! Do they still have the little key you stuck in and turn?

yes, they still have the key!

I had one when I was a kid too, one difference is they didn't have to make impressions and molds for my son. When I was a kid they made an impression, and then used it to create created a plaster mold to form the dental appliances. Now his orthodontists office has a 3D oral scanner that they use. It's this hand-held scanner and the technician scans his teeth and palate, while you can see on the screen the computer building a 3D model of his mouth. That 3D model gets sent off somewhere for them to make the appliance.
