Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

Us and other countries should really move forward with setting up a new country for the world's refugees. There are people who have been stuck for 10+ years and a lot more than people realize.

yeah, lord knows we can't have those brownies moving in with us whities.

Where are you going to put them? Are you going to build them a government and economy from scratch? How much money is that going to cost? If you just dump a bunch of refugees in a country with no economy, no infrastructure, what happens? That kind of hopeless existence is a breeding ground for extremism.

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

It's a whole lot easier if developed countries figured out a way to house people, and then help them get back home when the situation is more stable.

it would have been a whole lot easier if we didn't **** up the middle east and cause the refugee crisis in the first place. George W and Cheney should be rotting in jail. Obviously things were ****ed up before the Iraq war, but the destabilization caused by that caused much of the current refugee crisis.

We should not accept refugees in this country out of fear of what they might take from us, but we should take homeland away from someone else and give it to them?

Or were you going to give them Alabama? Go for it. Just keep the beachfront areas around Mobile as occupied territories and apportion the UA football program to the University of Wisconsin.

We could do it but we're not interested in solving problems anymore. We're just interested in being a boil on the earth's surface.

It's hard for us to take enough to make much of a difference. The article that was just posted said we take less than 1%. We could still take some refugees even if a country was setup for them.

Since we are not doing enough, we should do less.

Where? And what would they do once they got there?

That *seems* like a common sense idea- but it's very far from one. To support any refugees, you need some kind of economy to take care of them, AND to make sure they have something to do, unless you want a country that is just filled with cities where people are in tents doing nothing what so ever.

Besides the fact that there's no available area in the world for a new country, unless, of course, the idea is to start another warring area which would eliminate most of these refugees you think could go to a brand new country.

It's a whole lot easier if developed countries figured out a way to house people, and then help them get back home when the situation is more stable.

Well unless there is some hidden "Australia 2" island in the Pacific somewhere, I think you're right and we've unlocked the whole map in this real life Civilization game we're playing.

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

I was actually proposing doing more.

A real can do attitude in here among my liberal friends.

you make a completely unrealistic proposal.

Where is this land you are going to put millions of people? What kind of infrastructure end economy will be there to support them?

I take it then you do not support Trump's policies regarding refugees? You feel we should increase the number of refugees we are accepting?

I think it's immaterial how many we accept. We could double the amount we are taking and it still is only a drop in the bucket. I'm not saying starting a new country is easy but it's the only solution that I see will make much of a difference to the refugee problem.

then we might as well give up because your 'only solution' only works in fantasy land

I think we were all thinking "The Palestine Model" when he said that. No sense reinventing the wheel.
