Trump signs exec order to begin mass investigation into voter fraud.

This will be a textbook case on the descent into authoritarianism

Also worth noting. The only person fired by Trump that got any sort of respect from the President after the fact was Flynn. Comey and Yates, nothing.

It gets better.

Rosenstein threatened to resign after the narrative emerging from the White House on Tuesday evening cast him as a prime mover of the decision to fire Comey and that the president acted only on his recommendation, said the person close to the White House, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Oh, it does something. He's undermining our elections. The best elections in the free world. When the President says the United States elections are corrupt the World listens. This is bad for Democracy around the globe and IT'S NOT ****ING OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can hope it will just be the usual GOP nonsense to stoke their orcs. Initiatives like this are exactly how anti-democratic forces elected to democracies destroy the democracy from within and install themselves as a perpetual junta.

I'm not saying Trump isn't a dangerous lunatic because he is. What I'm saying is that he's quickly become a master at signing splashy executive orders that nobody in the press bothers to read. If they did, they would find these usually involve Trump setting up a commission or asking for a study of something, which is a lot less impactful than the free sensationalism he gets out of it.

Exactly.

don is trying to convince us that all of our elections are a fraud. Why, I don't understand. There's no real endgame to that level of total BS, that I can see. Why there's an interest in undermining democracy as we know it is a complete mystery to me. Especially as there's not an alternative to that, given our laws. And given the 3 branches of government, that basis doesn't seem likely to change.

The only thing one can come up with that is the thought that other countries elections are BS, because the US's are. And the ONE leader in the world who will benefit most is..... Putin. (remember, Secretary Clinton questioned the results of an election in Russia. Which is one reason she got on vlad's bad side).

The timing of Comey firing just got more interesting.

The funny thing is- the issues that have been identified in the system are more about the virtual systems that don't match the votes. So more and more people are going to paper ballots to back up the count.

If the sensationalism he gets out of it raises people's awareness of the existential threat he and the GOP are to free and fair elections then I hope he signs a bunch more.

Democracy dies in the dark. We need to pour the floodlights on this guy. The key to this is getting the GOP to be afraid to help Trump destroy the Constitution. They'll take the path of least resistance: if fascism looks like it can give them perennial power they will do it; if there's so much anger against fascism at town halls they'll defend the Constitution.

We're dealing with an entire party of sociopaths. Until we get them safely out of power, we have to make sure their self-interest is on the side of rule of law, and the way to do that is to call this baboon on every one of his power grabs no matter how ridiculous they appear.

For Trump it's just whatever he's been programmed to do by the people pulling the idiot's strings.

For the GOP it's a rational strategy. They know what's coming: demographic Armageddon. There are only two ways a Republican is going to get elected dog catcher in 20 years. (1) The party does a 180 on 80% of its policy stances. (2) Everyone except for old white straight uneducated Christianist males and billionaires is disenfranchised.

What demographic armageddon? The census director just quit yesterday, and it's doubtful Trump appoints a replacement. We're over 100 days in and there are still 500 appointed positions vacant.


There are giant vacuums forming in different agencies, and the golfer-in-chief is overwhelmed and focusing his efforts in the wrong ways.
