That's not what Nixon said. :)

Different GOP. The Senate Majority Leader doesnt even want it looked into. (and Ryan could care less) They wont impeach unless the DOJ is ready to indict him.

They're both utter morons. So probably.

She is a tool, but she might be the smartest person in his inner circle which speaks volumes to the level of incompetence that clown surrounded himself with.

It is his daughter. Explains a lot doesnt it. (she worked for him and Tim Pawlenty previously)

It's kind of amazing that Huckabee's kid that tortures and murders dogs isn't even the worst one.

If the president is convicted* of a crime but not impeached... what happens? Can he be president from jail?

* Can the president even be tried by anybody but Congress?

That is actually a really good question. I would assume he would be considered "unfit" and he could be removed without impeachment. (like if he was in a coma or something) More likely there is probably a rule that defines what would happen.

The repubs still have survival instinct, they will have to move on him to survive

I don't think that has ever fully been resolved. Federal judges have remained on the bench in the interregnum between being convicted and being impeached since impeachment is the only way to get rid of them.

For civil suits, yes, the president can be tried in federal court(Slick Willy vs. Paula Jones), and it's unclear in state court(Trump vs. Game Show Contestant is likely to go before the Supreme Court)

My favorite response to all this insanity has been from Dr. Mrs. As some of you know, we are in the process of prepping our house for sale (which, if you've never done it, is more stressful than getting married or having a baby -- seriously, stock up on the benzodiazepine) and her reaction to the last 24 hours was "I'm sorry our democracy is collapsing around us but right now all I care about is base molding."

Stuff like that is why we're married. :)

It's likely I just don't know her background well enough, but she has not struck me as particularly brilliant.

I agree, but considering how this White House is being run, I'm not sure there is anyone who could sound remotely intelligent

I can't get past that she's basically Bay Buchanan with a smaller mustache.

The question on whether or not Trump will be impeached has a simple answer - do the Dems take over the House in 2019 or not? Goopers will close ranks and go down with the ship because distancing yourself from your own President never works. If they hold the House, nothing will happen. FBI investigations go to DOJ for prosecution and they're not going to act on it.

Flip side is, if Dems do retake the House, the pressure to investigate Trump swiftly will be too great to overcome even to the most dithering of Dems (a good portion of them). While I think the natural inclination of mousy Dem officeholders would be to drag out investigations for two years until the Presidential election, they aren't going to get that chance if there's any whiff of wrongdoing. No, I don't expect the GOP to go along with this in the Senate, and barring electoral disaster they should still hold that chamber. Even if they don't there's not 2/3rd votes to convict EVEN IF Trump has been found to have personally colluded with Putin to influence election. It will however be hilarious to see pompous jacka sses like Hatch and McCain have to explain why they voted FOR a conviction over a bj, but voted AGAINST it over treason with our biggest foreign rival.
