POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

And then Republicans will be wiping their @ sses with your face for the next several decades. Problem with purists is they have no problem losing elections as they value purity over success. Republicans may be craven hypocrites with no morals but they've figured out its better to have someone in your party running things than the opposition.

I'm going to give you a scenario that's going to make your head explode. Its possible the next Dem nominee is a current governor who banned fracking in his state, had the legislature legalize same sex marriage even though he needed Republican votes to do so, and has proposed free college tuition at state public universities. Who's this guy? Andrew Cuomo. My take on you and others is you'd rather lose the next election to Donald Trump once again than vote for a guy who agrees with you on the aforementioned issues. This is the problem with people on the left.
The problem is when Democrats get into office and can't pass anything meaningful? ACA? Great job! Led to 6 years of gridlock and President Trump!

The problem isn't in the White House, it's in Congress. We can't get enough people elected and most of the ones who can immediately sell out because of fear. Contrast that to the Republicans who can plenty elected who will stick to their (warped) ideology.

I'd rather see Democrats run on liberal/socialist ideas like Sanders because the other way certainly doesn't seem to be working.

Re: POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

I expect this to last 2 weeks, tops.

All it will take is Chuckie or Booker voting for some average pro-Wall Street legislation, and you'll be right back on the Haterade. :p

I'm going to do my best. I have a feeling if I slip up I will be reminded. :)

The left vs center-left debate is important. It is not as important as defeating the right. I'm hopeful our friends on the center-left will follow this lead, but I'm not making my behavior conditional on theirs.

We should run as socialists where we can win as socialists (hard core blue areas) and left-centrists where we can win as left-centrists (purplish-blue areas) and centrists where we are the only alternative to insane wingnut radicalism (red areas). It will be fine to have the left vs left-center battle when we're putting bills together in committee in a Congress that is 1/3 left, 1/3 center-left, and 1/3 Republican.

The left and the center-left need each other. We don't have to love each other but we do have to work together.

Reminds me of reading daily kos. You might think Joe Manchin was Ted Cruz. Given that he's probably the only Dem who can hold that seat (although WV inexplicably has a Dem gov as well) I'm willing to cut the guy a lot of slack.

Kos' purity testing tries my patience, and I'm even farther left than their main demo. I understand the sentiment but a public forum is the wrong place for it. Markos himself has really spread the gospel that we all need to pull together; he is a pragmatist. I wish the foot soldiers would get religion.

Meanwhile, the rough beast slouches towards Washington. Neglect not the Comments:

We have an unhinged, ignorant narcissist about to take the reins of the country, and of the "free world". The emperor has no filter, no ethics, no critical mind. He'll start at 40% and will only slide from there.

Preach.

Re: POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

I'm sure he will handle this with dignity.

Former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos filed a defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump on Tuesday, attorney Gloria Allred announced in Los Angeles.

“No one is above the law, including the soon-to-be president,” Allred said during a press conference.

Zervos in October accused Trump of groping and kissing her during a 2007 business meeting without her permission.

The lawsuit calls Trump a “liar and misogynist” for disparaging Zervos after she made the allegations.

The lawsuit claims Trump lied about Zervos by claiming he never met her at a hotel or groped her inappropriately, Allred said. The lawsuit also notes that Trump claimed Zervos’s allegations were “made up.”

Re: POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

Should we start a Trump inquiry that locks down the government for four years?

If the government's locked down, he can't **** it up quite so much. Yes, please.

Then you can't go after Dubya. :)

Meet the face of your party for the next three generations. We have no need of anyone else to perfectly personify the fecklessness, mental laziness and irresponsibility of the Republican party.

I wonder how many on the right believe that most (or all) of the Bill Cosby accusers are telling the truth because there's no way all of them are lying about what they claim he did? It's going to get to the point where there are probably just as many women who are accusing Trump of the kinds of behavior a number of women have accused HIM of and you can surely believe the typical hypocritical Republican voter will conveniently excuse Trump while "forgetting" what their stance was on the Cosby accusers a year or more ago.

Of all the reasons I can't figure out the modern conservative/right movement, their rampant hypocrisy befuddles me most. For instance, they decry the Left's support of marriage equality because it will lead to the breakdown of traditional marriage, yet people like Donald Trump (famous and unknown regular people alike) who are straight and have been married and divorced numerous times are the ones truly responsible for the "breakdown of traditional marriage", if that was even a real thing. That's but one example. Or saying restrictive policies on abortion are designed to protect the woman seeking an abortion instead of calling them what they REALLY are, roadblocks to as many abortions as possible. We get it, you're pro-life and you want to ban all abortion. Fine, just don't lie and call it something it isn't out of your rampant hypocrisy.

Re: POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

Time to get this post flagged by the Secret Service:

What are the odds of someone taking a literal shot at Trump at some point in the near future? Just thinking about the situation with the nation being so polarized. Also I can see Trump blatantly ignoring the Secret Service's instructions on some protocol.

Am I nuts for thinking this is a legit concern in addition to any policy that may come forward or get back burnered? I can only imagine the consequences of such an event...
