Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Rolling Pin :D

In order to be considered for a D-I program, 'yard and the Bears have to win the SUNYAC on a fairly regular basis. Until then..... And Clarkson just let go a former D-III coach. I don't know if they want to go that route again.

True enough, though if he wanted, IMO, one of the lesser positions could be his and a better stepping stone than his current one.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

I heard McShane and Morris names are surfacing along with Phil Roy as his work with Merrimack obviously did not go unoticed by some.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Well it should make for some interesting recruiting this summer for the Bears. Apparently we were looking at bringing in at least 13 freshmen prior to last week. I don't even want to imagine the number that will have to be brought in now.

Wow....I hope this isn't true. I cannot figure out why we are losing guys....:(

Saints: This has been the MO for Potsdam all along. The North Country takes a special breed to love it and stay there for the duration of you college career. I for one loved it. But a lack of student support, and the town being all for Clarkson and Potsdam only when the Knights are out of town, plus Maxcy wasn't ever a really 'nice' barn, but I liked it....

To each their own.

I wonder if the players are having a problem with the coach? I know in the past that was a concern with some people.

He lives! Welcome back haha.

I got to agree with you for the most part, but the students have really started to come back to Maxy. To the extent of other school? No, but getting there.

True story back in the 90s I was talking with someone from Potsdam about hockey and they knew Potsdam had a team but thought it was Clarksons JV team.

The ice and locker rooms at Potsdam were mediocre at best. Some minor hockey rinks were better, but it wasn't a dump by any means. Never went into the Varsity area or their athletic training rooms, but the "upgrade" is on its way. I'm not sure I like the idea but its not my money. Individual seats kill the atmosphere. Its going to be a hard ticket to get when Plattsburgh comes to town!

A similar confusion from a family in Montreal is how Potsdam wound up getting the Marcoux brothers in the early 80s.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

I've heard rumors of a merge between the two schools admin / admissions offices. Similar to the Harvey Mudd Colleges in CA, the two colleges would retain their individual identities but have a common "header" name.

The liberal arts would be on the East side of town on the campus of the former Potsdam State, while the hard sciences and business school would be on the Hill on Clarkson's property.

Potsdam State would be renamed Clarkson University of Liberal Arts (CULA), while Clarkson would become Clarkson University of Business and Technology (CUBT). CULA would leave the SUNYAC and join another conference. CUBT would still be a member of the Liberty League and the ECACHL.

Tuition rates have not been finalized as well as the final price to be paid to the New York Regents for the Potsdam State property. Sources within the two colleges say that they are attempting to secure a low interest loan for the purchase price from various New York state development offices.

What is this, an April's Fool joke?

I am on the campus on a weekly basis, I believe I would have heard something about this by now. The North Country is too small of a place not to have heard this rumor before today. While I cannot neither confirm nor deny, I seriously doubt this is true.

Saints17, what Joe doesn't know is this "story" has been bantered about for over 10 years if not longer. It's just a bunch of drunk frat boys yaking it up at a party.
