Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

As a counterpoint, the games against D-II teams are defacto exhibition games that DO count on your 25 game limit. The ECAC-E will have 4 of them next year.

More like semi defacto, because while the games don't count, the stats do...

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

It counts towards their 25. Last year's Canton Potsdam Game was the 2nd largest attendance for Potsdam next to Plattsburgh and it was on a Weeknight. Get real this is going to grow into a big rivalry in northern new york.

I was able to chat with a few of the players yesterday. I truly believe this program is on the rise, as their spirits seemed high after this weekend and rightfully so. Big weekend coming up but they know how to win at Oswego and Cortland. Should be an interesting season.

Not sure but I think the bears have lost in oz for the past 6 yrs or so, excluding the loss 2yrs ago.......they may know how to win in Cortland??? But Oz????? Not to say it will not be a great game, because it better be because I am driving up from NYC to see it,the Sunyac is off to a good start as more teams seem like they will be in the hunt.......and Genny WOW, give them all the ink please for sure

They may only have 25 games on their schedule this year, but that doesn't mean it counts towards their limit. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The rules are too complicated for me to look up. :-) It could mean they didn't schedule 25 NCAA games.

It's still an exhibition game and doesn't count towards any RPI rankings, etc. Ergo, they will not play them more than once. Not to mention, if they did, Canton would demand a home game, thus defeating the whole purpose for Potsdam to play them more than once.

Now, when Canton becomes an NCAA school and they hopefully join the SUNYAC, you are absolutely right. This will be the game of the year to go to no matter who is hosting it.

Potsdam was more successful back at Romney, especially in the playoffs, than they have been at the Campus Center.

I didn't intend for my comment to appear arrogant, just full of enthusiam with the team. Don't take it any other way.

Thanks, I am begging the wife to head down to the game. I even told her that Oswego has the best darn fries. I like watching the games at Oswego, just a remarkable facility.

The boys at Greene's will take good care of her while you are at the Ice Palace...just leave the Amex before you head out....

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

It's only stated exhibition but it doesn't matter rules state 25 games including exhibition.

Like I keep saying, it does not matter whether the game counts towards the 25-game limit or not. It's still an exhibition game, and Potsdam, or any team, is not going to play more than one exhibition games for the reasons I keep mentioning a million times.

And that was the ORIGINAL point.

Potsdam I believe got dropped by two teams prior to the season and had to scramble to get to the 25.

Well, they knew all along that Elmira was dropping them, and Utica was never planned to be back on the schedule this year, so I don't know how last minute any of these changes were and how much it affected them trying to get other teams to play. Saints17 may be able to provide some info.

However, I believe Potsdam and Canton were set to play a long time before this all happened.

And the favor is more the other way. There are plenty of people in the Potsdam administration who do not like the idea of playing Canton. Potsdam has everything to lose and nothing to gain. Canton loves the idea of playing Potsdam. They'll drop their whole schedule to get an opportunity to do so...

They do have really good fries. And let's not forget Hoffman's Hots. And the chocolate chip cookies are to die for. Makes up for the extremely subpar pretzels ... almost.

I agree with the premise, except - Nothing to gain - even if they were to "travel to Canton" there is a HUGE cost savings, in that there is very travel cost (it is about 13 miles from SUNY Potsdam to SUNY Canton - just about a straight line down Route 11). Note also that SUNY Canton is soon to have one of the best rinks in SUNY.

I remember how cold the Canton rink was when I played at NCCC. I wore an itech and would frost up.

the place is AWESOME, and I'm jealous, we had to play in a rink downtown my senior yr 87', due to renovations at Romney, but I think it brang the team together and we had a pretty good season.........

Well anything would be better than that dump Plattsburgh plays in. ;)
