Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

The pre-season poll is up on another site and the Bears are picked 5th. That seems appropriate however I think the Bears may finish a little higher. 6 days til the puck drops on the SUNYAC season.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Prior to becoming a 4 year school they were the Northstars. Not sure what year they changed to Kangaroos.

The 'Roo decor started to go up around Canton around....2006 or 2007 I want to say? Definately before I graduated from Potsdam in '08.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

I was also at the game and it was a fun game to watch and if Canton doesn't come out flat in the first period that was anyones game. Potsdam definitely had more skilled players but I do have to admit I enjoyed seeing local kids on Canton's roster. I have to credit the Canton program for even competing and getting kids into that school to play ACHA hockey that has to be tough recruiting job for the coaches. Goalie for Canton did play well but Canton missed several scoring chances on the goalline and I believe they hit a cross bar in the game as well if my memory is correct. I was surprised that the announcer didn't announce where Canton's starting players were from because I believe I checked and three of them were from Canton or Potsdam and 1 guy had been cut from Potsdam a few years ago it's too bad that there home towns were not mentioned. I would imagine it would given local kids hope that they can still play hockey in the area because it was apparent that they didn't have any local kids on Potsdam's roster.

Well the Bears won tonight 4-1 over SUNY Canton. The Bears outshot the Kangaroos 47-26. I liked what I saw at times from the Bears, as they carried most of the play for the game. I will definitely admit the goalie for the Kangaroos, Jimmy Merrow could play just about anywhere in D III. He committed robbery again at Maxcy Hall this year. Overall I will give the Bears a B- on this outing. Next weekend its off to Brockport and Geneseo.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

From what I can tell Canton/Potsdam is one of the best draws for Potsdam all season. They shoud try and pick up Canton twice per season. Had to be at least 2,000 plus at the game and for the record I believe the quick fact is that Kangaroos can only move forward. Also if anyone on Canton could play D3 they wouldn't be at Canton!

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Just looking at the Canton-Potsdam box, Potsdam took 5 penalities for 10 minutes versus Canton's 2 penalities for 4 minutes. Also, in reference to above Canton's roster has - Darren Camp, Rob Liggio and Kristian Daley are from Canton and Cory Berecume is from Potsdam , but Tom Darling is from Oswego  ;).

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

The home team announcer never gives the hometown for the opposing team. Or at least that has been my experience. They are the visitors, who cares where they are from.

It's an EXHIBITION game. You can only have one of those a year before it starts counting against your 25-game limit. No way Potsdam is going to give up an NCAA game to play another exhibition game.

Nice way to begin the season, a 5-2 win over Brockport. I was able to watch the game on fasthockey and thought for the most part Potsdam played very well. The defense for Potsdam looks good. Geneseo is up next.

From their first power play onwards, Potsdam played very strong.

Will be interesting to see how Geneseo comes out tomorrow after a huge win over Plattsburgh.

If the Ice Knights are looking past Potsdam after their big win over Plattsburgh it will mean their first loss of the season for sure. Potsdam always plays them tough.

As a counterpoint, the games against D-II teams are defacto exhibition games that DO count on your 25 game limit. The ECAC-E will have 4 of them next year.

I think the times are a changing in the SUNYAC. Potsdam Genny on way up. Daughter tells me lot of buzz on campus after platty win. Sed platty assistant coach went nuts on bench.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

I don't think any teams in the SUNYAC should be too high or too low after this weekend. I am glad my Bears came away with a split on the road. Tough weekend coming up, first up Oswego then Cortland. No off nights in this league.
