Meh, the rivalries were not that great any way. North Dakota is the only one that had one with U of Mn, really. Those other "rivalries" are a complete joke. How often do the St. Cloud or UMD fans bring a thousand or more people down for a U of Mn game or vise versa? Sure some hardcore fans get excited but not even the fringe people care. It isn't like BU/BC, MSU/U of M, UND/U of Mn, UAA/UAF, Tech/Northern (less people care, but per the population/school size it is a big rival game), etc. If anything, the rivalries will get better because the teams will be playing eachother a lot more often.

In a thread about rivalries, people act like... rivals?!?!?! How could this happen?

The last time a team lost 8-2 at home and won the NC was Denver in 2004, but they lost to UND. http://www.collegehockeystats.net/0304/boxes/mdenndk1.n21

I'm not sure. I'm in the camp who believe there's no such thing as a one-sided rivalry.

Single-wide, Wal-Mart......is that really the best you can do? I do like how you make a point to say that you've never set foot in one, classic. I mean really, don't you have a Nat'l Title to be celebrating? Enjoy it, this was fun.

Of course they had the last laugh, there's only one team in the country that gets that and this year it was them. That game simply makes me feel a little bit better about the Huskies after the absolute failure of a season they had. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think the SCSU-tUMD rivalry DOES stem out from the fanbases, most viewed on here. I know that many people not on the board know who DHG/RWD and Rabib/DL are, and it branches off from there. Well, maybe not the SCSU fanbase. Their "trees" never branch. ;)

Hence my opinion of the rivalry.

And for other rivalries:

Bakunin-society
RWD-men with an opinion
DHG-civility
DL-legal age women
Rabib-listening
Bro Gin-backing up his threats

FTLT-I apologize for associating Rabid with something he didn't do. I'm sure there is a long list of offensive things that posters from both teams have done to each other, I brought up those incidents because they involved or were witnessed by non-posters and made the larger UMD fanbase dislike St. Cloud for awhile. There were a couple years where the St. Cloud series was more intense in Duluth and tickets were priced in the 'premium' category, but in recent years the series has been pretty run-of-the-mill.

Also, I know a number of SCSU fans that are totally unaware of anything that has happened regarding message boards and those who post on them and they were genuinely rooting for UMD at the Frozen Four. Another sign of the reduced bitterness is that Biddco, in this thread, admitted he liked the St. Cloud fans he's met. :)...and DL is about to get raked over the coals for bringing up the series record against the team that just won the National Title when we have never even been to a Frozen Four.

Sorry for the triple post... The Maroon Loon that appeared this season was one from a long time ago and wasn't the who was the most recent 'regular' Maroon Loon. I know there were complaints about the last one because he looked up cheerleaders' skirts on the ice and spent a lot of time talking to friends in the stands rather than being 'mascotty.'

Well in my defense, I haven't really met the people that were around back in the day. :D

Plus it would seem that some fans that UMD fans don't like are also not liked by SCSU fans. Interesting.

That is not one sided, that's just a good record. And that is all you have. That silly record would be much different if UMD didn't play like crap in that dump of a building they call the NHC.

Plus I am sure you would trade that record for more wins than RIT or BSU in the NCAA's.

Or that shiny NCAA trophy UMD won recently....

RWD was the one who called it one-sided...not me. ;)

And yes, I'd go 0-fer against UMD if it means we got an NCAA Title out of the deal.

Ok, you totally didn't understand what I said.

He asked why he thought I'd say UND was our biggest rival. I said I didn't know why he'd think that. It's not a rivalry if the other side doesn't give a ****.
