Poser of the Year -- History

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

Thanks for the unsigned negrep!

I don't support unsigned negrep, however this an opportunity to point out that one of the perks of paid membership (besides helping the site function) is that they can't hide. :) :) :)

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

Wow this thread was an interesting read for sure.
Yeah, I'm not sure how I missed this one.

If Priceless in fact has disassociated himself with this board, that's unfortunate. Personally I'd be hard pressed to think of a single instance where I agreed with him. Like others, I found many of his posts to be snarky, obtuse and frequently annoying. But, it's a message board, so that is not unique. On the other hand, he was a frequent contributor to these threads, and message boards need regular, frequent contributors to avoid getting stale.

Personally, I sympathize with him and any physical or mental health issues that he has, and wish him the best. But in fairness to those who may have made what may be interpreted as mean, cruel or spiteful comments about his health or his discussion of the same, it was always Priceless who put those health issues out on the public stage, for reasons of his own. I've followed or posted on this message board now going back to the 1996-97 hockey season, and I know many of you, but only by your posts. I know of almost no criminal, marital, mental or physical health problems that any of you may have. If you choose to put those very private issues into a public internet forum, whether for reasons of gaining sympathy, seeking advice, or just venting, you do so at the peril that there are many, many people who will use that information against you in those same forums. Priceless did not shy away from taking his shots at other posters on a variety of subjects. When you do that, people that you wound or offend will use whatever "tools" they have available.

I would have significantly more sympathy for someone whose private travails were publicized by others.

I'm not saying Priceless asked for it, but he was certainly not reluctant to throw out for all the world to see things like he posted in this thread.

Just my two cents.

Update based on recent posts. The question marks are mostly because I'm not sure the order in which the posters won, but there seems to be widespread agreement that they did win:
Code:

2003 phil_dupree*?	?

Poor FlagDude. Finishing second so many times. But with hard work I know he can make it over the top and take home the title.

Wide right.

He really gave it an effort this year with Jade Helm.

But he's not a poser. He comes off as fully believing what he's posting, which just makes him a conspiracy nut and not someone who's pretending or playing a character for attention.

Look back at the winners, though. They come from all over the spectrum of sincerity (and credulity). Plus remember phil/nate -- he struck me as batting a thousand both on trolling AND on believing the idiocy that he said. Granted, he was a special person and we will not see his like again (I mean, unless he comes back as a third userid), but I think Flag is a sort of minor league version of him.

nate_phil was a troll who believed, willing to tell exaggerations and lies in order to get the biggest reaction possible. Flaggy is simply a believer and trying to get out the word to a forum that just doesn't believe and is willing to take the mickey out of him in the process.

CommAv won it during the inaugural year because he started the whole thing. Dirty won it for his comedic trolling of both the D1 and Café boards. dtp just horked off the right amount of liberals and he was having fun with it along the way; Dude Love likes underage girls (most ironically named poster ever); Jon campaigned with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Brent got in on a down year; Old Pio soiled himself daily while bleating about one thing or another; Rover got it for being Rover; Ralph won out of pure post quantity, and Priceless threw a hissy fit just before voting began.

Which one was "BOOM-SHAK-A-LAK"? I wanna say nate, but it could have been any of the NAPALM fools.

"phil" started it, and his alter ego posted it a few times, too.

There was a third name registered, but I forget who that was. He tried to pass him off as phil's cousin or brother, something like that.
