I for one am glad the Gophers didn't get extra credit for their (excellent) work this weekend!

Pretty close to my SBN ballot which was

1. Wisconsin
2. Ohio State
3. Minnesota
4. Quinnipiac
5. Northeastern
6. Minnesota-Duluth
7. Colgate
8. Clarkson
9. Yale
10. Harvard

Wow no volatility to the poll at all. A definite departure from what we observe in men’s hockey and football when upsets happen. Men’s hockey had someone drop from first to fifth this week and I gather top ranked team is quite fluid this year.

Poll voters have differing visions of what they are voting for. Are you voting for the team you think is best right now? Or for the team with the best season to this point? Or perhaps for the team you believe has the best chance of winning the season ending championship tournament?

Best right now? Minnesota based on 5 of 6 points over the team previously widely regarded as the best right now.

Best season to this point? Wisconsin or possibly Quinnipiac. 15-1-2 is a record to be aspired to and very seldom achieved.

Best chance of being the champions? At this moment I really do not know. There are now a bunch of teams who have at least a reasonable puncher's chance and there is no longer anyone who looks to be an overwhelming favorite.

But anyone who still thinks Wisconsin? Sure, I can see that.

Yes it was quite shocking. I makes a person wonder if the Pollsters are actually paying attention. At all. At least in a month we will know a lot more about the east/west dynamic when UW plays Q. But even up to that point the west has been cleaning up in n/c games. My point is OSU, UW and MN are in a class of their own. Do Q and NE belong there? I guess it doesn't really matter since those teams are probably a lock for the NCAA's and the 11 team tourney gives all the top seeds more sweet cupcakes than before.

Well said.... I acknowledge the above. my biggest beef is that it’s boring as hell, the status quo. Why not put
Minn at 1 and challenge them not to lose? If they split with UMd and Wisco destroys Bemidji twice shake it up again. Commentary on women’s hockey seems wayyyyy down, we just had a wild outcome and the poll ignores it. Boring!

There’s an ncaa “poll” that is a 1 person ranking. Evan Markofsky... while I don’t have the same number 1 as him (he has NU and explains why) I appreciate that he shook up the poll and explains why.

I'm big on not overreacting to a single game or series. My ranking is based on which team has shown me the most overall, recent weekend included but not over-valued, and for me that's still Wisconsin.

The bottom teams are getting better and weird stuff is going to happen more and more. Oh, you got shut out by Bemidji State, the shot blocking and goaltending academy? Yeah that happens sometimes.

When the conference tournaments start it shifts to who is capable of winning a single high stakes game. Though I often think Wisconsin is the best team overall by talent, I also think Mark Johnson's preferred play style leaves them incapable of winning big games against similarly talented teams. This is why Wisco's titles have come when they've gotten a bunch of lower seeds, OR are so far above even #2 (2019) up until Darryl Watts's playing style added some much needed creativity.

Fair enough. I think it’s a bit boring, a little too high level but I get it. Wisco has gone to OT against UMD, OSU, tied Bemidji, plus the loss and tie to UM at home, plus the short bench plus 2 season ending injuries, plus the Watts slump and Blair’s rough weekend. There’s enough there for some movement imo but clearly a vast majority of poll voters feel differently.

Not sure if you saw the most recent Nicole Haase article about Hockey East, but their lack of multiple top ten teams makes figuring out NU’s place in the rankings very challenging. I think various polls have them at 1, 3, 4 . UConn is having their best season ever though, it’s worth noting. A top 11 team if I am reading USCHOs pairwise right...

Folks should simply watch 140 games a year and look at every single box score like I do ;)

As a person who watches 140 games a year... how do you see the inaugural clash between the Tommies and Lindenwood going?

Can LU get a three win streak going?

Lindenwood is better than everyone thinks (not by much), but take a bad WCHA team against a bad team from any other conference.

The eye test tells me that MN should be easily ranked ahead of Q. It kinda sucks that I have to wait to 2/4 to see UMD for the eye test.
