Always get the older tech.

My HVAC went down. The younger guy yesterday said diagnostic test and then probably indoor unit replacement: 2-3 weeks; $3k.

The older guy today said, "Do you have cats"?

Fouled filter. $20. Fixed.

The filter on the side of your furnace? Every 3 months, 20 seconds, maybe a minute if it's jammed in there tight. Costs $0.99 to $5, and will extend the life of your furnace. Also, don't get the really nice ones, they restrict air flow which in turn requires your fan to work harder and conk out quicker. If your air quality is an issue, get an external air purifier that you just set on the floor.

My brother owns an HVAC company. He has taught me the value of regular, simple maintenance.

You (or someone you know) broke something, didn't you?

Evening, Lodge. Fridge is still broke, new one is apparently on order, gonna find out tomorrow. Not too worried. Coolers are stacked with ice, I can buy food daily to cook, I don't mind (I shop twice a week anyways, since I never know what I'm in the mood for, and don't want things to spoil).

I did get the service notice today on my current fridge, but no mention if they fixed it. Put in ice trays at 6pm, 3+ hrs later, still water. That answered that.

No, I asked advice before I was about to break something. See, I had a stupid idea that seemed smart to my ignorant self, but then I had an actual smart idea and called my brother. He gave me a few pointers before I could do any damage.

I had no idea my HVAC had an air filter.

I'm an effete easterner with soft hands from counting money.

Anyway, I bought some filters and replaced it myself, which is now the second working class thing I can do after changing a tire.

They did cost $20 though. I am going to change them every 3 months. This one hadn't been changed at least since we bought the house. We bought the house in 2017. So that was longer than 3 months.

Filters every 3 months. Trust me, I sell them, I see spikes every quarter.

So, I’m getting a new work laptop. I was working at my table, decided to unplug from the power cord and move to my living room couch and it totally shut down. Couldn’t turn it back on till I plugged it in. Had to call the Help Desk, tried a few things, didn’t work. Pain in the neck. They’re sending a new one, potentially to arrive on Friday. I’m planning to take the day off, maybe go to the beach. Now I have to stay here till it arrives and set it up.

Why now? I’m also trying to take Wednesday and Thursday off next week and now I think that might be difficult pending getting this new one set up.
