Plattsburgh State men's hockey head coach Bob Emery and assistant coach Mike Coppola honored five members of the men's hockey team at the team's annual break-up dinner held at the end of the spring semester.
Sophomore forward Michael Radisa was selected as the team's most improved player during the 2013-14 season. A native of Caledon, Ontario, Radisa compiled seven goals and seven assists for 14 points. Appearing in 20 games, he added one short-handed goal and two game-winning goals. Radisa was also named to the PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut All-Tournament Team after scoring three points in the annual tournament.
For the second-straight season the scholar-athlete award was given to junior forward Michael Cassidy. Hailing from West Seneca, N.Y., Cassidy is a business administration major who has received State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Academic honors twice. He was also named to the SUNYAC Commissioner's List as a sophomore. Cassidy finished the season with five goals and nine assists for 14 points.
Kyle Hall was recognized as the 2014 Mike Daoust Rookie of the Year after leading all Cardinal freshmen with 12 points. A forward out of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, Hall appeared in all 26 games. He tallied five goals and seven assists in his first season at Plattsburgh State.
Senior goaltender Sam Foley received the Chester A. Grabowski Award which is given annually to the player who most typifies Plattsburgh State Cardinal Hockey, demonstrating supreme sportsmanship, leadership, hard work and dedication. This is the second time Foley has received the Grabowski award as the Woodbury, Minn. native has served as a tremendous presence in the locker room and within the community. In four seasons with the Cardinals, Foley finished his career with a 1.54 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage in nine appearances. Foley did not allow a goal in his last seven appearances, which dates back to his sophomore season in 2011-12.
After saving some of his best numbers for his last season, Mathieu Cadieux was named the Cardinals' most valuable player for the 2013-14 season. A senior goaltender from Oshawa, Ontario, Cadieux finished the year with an 18-5-2 record. He earned All-SUNYAC Second Team honors after posting a career-best 1.65 goals-against average and .935 save percentage. Cadieux was selected the most valuable player of the 2014 PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut and was named the SUNYAC Goalie of the Week three times. In three seasons between the Plattsburgh State pipes, Cadieux has compiled a 49-17-6 record and a 9.30 save percentage. A two-time All-American, Cadieux set a new program record with a 1.76 career goals-against average and he ranks second in Cardinal history with nine shutouts.
