I honestly don't see how they can do it. hell even Disney has smoking area's.

Disney is in Florida, not NY.

NY has been VERY proactive in the smoking bans. They were one of the first states to make it that way in restaurants and public areas and now they're taking it another step further with the public universities.

NY has been VERY proactive in the smoking bans. They were one of the first states to make it that way in restaurants and public areas and now they're taking it another step further with the public universities.

Siena College announced last September their intention to make campus tobacco-free. I think they're planning to have the policy in effect this September, but don't quote me on that. That said, they've already gotten quite a bit of student backlash and eventually held a Q&A session between the student government and the president of the college. At that Q&A session, documentation was shown illustrating that colleges and universities which continue to allow smoking on campus may, in fact, be in the minority in the US in the next couple of years. The college administration's entire justification was "we don't want to be perceived as being behind the times."

Personally, I'd just be content if they enforced the no smoking withing 50ft of the entrance policies... but they insist on putting the cigarette disposal things right next to the door...

As an aside, my school in Spain had an ash tray in every dorm room. In Spain, they put the ban on smoking inside public buildings in place January 2011, enforced with a whopping €3000 fine for a first offense, but have absolutely no restrictions on smoking in any open-air public setting, an do not even require smokers to be any distance from the door... as long as the lit cigarette bever physically crosses the threshold, you're good.... There's the other end of the spectrum for you.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

When I was at the University of Arkansas (Go Razorbacks!) a couple of weeks ago, their whole campus was tobacco free. While there, my roommate was a smoker and he had to find property that was not owned by UOA. Despite college not being in full session, the law was enforced by university officials.

It will be interesting to see if they enforce this at the Stafford Ice Arena. I know LOTS of folks tend to take a smoking break between intermissions.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Dear Season Ticket Holders:

We hope your enjoying the great weather we are having this summer here in Plattsburgh! The hockey season is just around the corner and we are getting excited for the upcoming season! We have finalized our recruiting class and like what we see! We are certainly not satisfied with the season we had last year, we want to get better! We will have a young but talented group with only four seniors. We are fortunate to return two All-Americans in Mike Grace and Mathieu Cadieux, something we haven’t had in a long time!
This summer marks the Bi-Annual Hockey Alumni Reunion; it will take place this Friday and Saturday July 13th and 14th. We would like you to share in a great weekend. We are inducting two more players into the Plattsburgh State University Hall of Fame, Bryan Murray and Niklas Sundberg and also recognizing Chris Panek as he was inducted last fall. Please come join us as we will have the Alumni hockey game at Friday night at 7:30 at the Ameri/Can North Arena and on Saturday we will have our Alumni Golf Tournament at Bluff Point Golf Resort with a shotgun at 1:30. There is a room still available for golf, the cost is $60 and includes lunch at the course. We will have prizes, a 50/50 auction benefiting the Mike Daoust fund, laughs and more!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Steve Moffat at 518-324-9348 or email at moffatsc@plattsburgh.edu
Thank you for all your continued support!
Regards,
Steve Moffat

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

The only one I could possibly see not returning would be Josh Leis, but I haven't hear anything about any of them not returning. I'll see what I can find out though.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

By my count plattsburgh had 5 returning seniors...is one of them not coming back?

All five are returning students, whether they all play is TBA. They are: Paul Puglisi, Patrick Jobb, Josh Leis, Jared Docking and Mike Grace.

Also, one might be a 4th year player, but not be a "senior' in terms of credit hours earned.

Cards to recognize 3 former hockey standouts {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 7/13/2012}

Chris Panek, Bryan Murray and Niklas Sundberg are three names synonymous with Plattsburgh State men’s hockey success.

The three, who are among the most recent inductees into the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame, will be recognized this weekend at the men’s hockey program’s bi-annual alumni weekend.

“It’s great to have three former players with great character being recognized,” Plattsburgh State coach Bob Emery said.

The weekend starts tonight with the alumni hockey game being held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center.

Saturday there will be a golf tournament with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start at the Bluff Point Golf Resort. Then the three former Cardinals standouts will be honored at a reception at the Naked Turtle, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Panek, who was a Plattsburgh defenseman from 1985 to 1988, entered the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame last year but will be recognized this year since the alumni weekend takes place every two years.

“I never had the chance to coach Chris, but many people tell me that he was the best player ever to put on a Cardinal uniform,” said Emery. “He signed a National Hockey League contract with the Los Angeles Kings, and that’s an unbelievable accomplishment in itself.

“He has been dedicated to the Cardinal hockey program and is our best alumni supporter, showing up for games at home and away. Chris is what we strive for from our hockey alumni.”

Both Murray and Sundberg will be inductees into this year’s Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame. The two will be inducted in October.

Murray played defense for the Cardinals from 1997 to 2001.

“Bryan was an outstanding leader as well as being a talented player,” said Emery. “That combination makes any coach happy. He was very instrumental in multiple final fours, including the 2001 national championship team. He’s one of those players who can say he won his last collegiate game as a Cardinal.

“He was a well-spoken member of the team. Bryan was instrumental in the team’s off-ice goals with community service.”

Sundberg was a standout goaltender from 1998 to 2002 and was Murray’s teammate for a good part of that time.

“Obviously, Nik’s numbers speak for themselves,” said Emery. “He is arguably the best goaltender Plattsburgh State has ever had. He represented the team well both on and off the ice and in the classroom. We knew in his freshman year that he was going to be a successful player and student.

“Nik was a quiet leader. On many nights, he made the coaching staff and team look very good. He was instrumental in our 2001 championship run and made 50 saves in our semifinal win.”

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Forums are pretty slow right now, looks like Platty is getting alot of high scoring recruits, with nothing else to go on but speculation at this point, do you think that plattsburgh will be able to extend their streak against Oswego past one? Since its preseason and we have nothing else to do i want to hear peoples honest opinions with some predictions, get some discussion going amongst the biggest rivalry in DIII.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I think a big part of it will have to do with goaltending. We all know Chewy is solid in net for Plattsburgh, but who will be the starter this year in the land of Oz??? and can that person play as well as KGT, Potter, or Beckwith??? all 3 had their share of success against Plattsburgh.
