Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

That game just cost them any chance at an outside bid to the NCAA.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends how the rest of the teams around the country do, I'd hope for some upsets somewhere else. Gotta shake it off and look forward to tonight. I want the cards bringing their A game, didn't drive 5 hours to see them give up against oz. Don't get me wrong I still hope they lose though.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

this is by far the worst I've seen Plattsburgh play...EVER...for many years
Dude - To become so emotionally invested in a process over which you absolutely no control is dangerous to your health; mental and physical. Everyone, including you and me, has off nights. The key is how you deal with it.

Congrats Cards fans on soon putting a 1000 post thread to bed! Don't know if it's been done in the D3 forum before.

It has happened before...I don't know if it has been done with a thread on a single team before (unless it was Adrian)

Adrian went through three in one season...

Plattsburgh's thread did start however on March 20th and there was no offseason thread. Oswego's was started in October and Norwich's was started in late June.

Just perspective. That's all :)

I did delete over 50 of posts on the thread over the past couple of weeks to slow the progress to 1000, but alas, I guess it is inevitable.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

1 or 2 games either way up or down does not make a season, I think thats why they play more than 2 games......that said I am SURE the birds will come out fly'in tonight and there will be NO " double digit" Oz win tonight as someone said, it will be a 1 or 2 goal game either way .....wish I could be there......Go Oz..

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Can't wait until tonight! I'm going to harass the **** out of Beckwith allllllllll game! "Brickwall" my ***! Not to mention my Division-I transfer taunting I'm going to do on Ian Boots and company! :)

"Brickwall" beckwith will hold his own, if you guys play like you did last night maybe I should bring some bagels to throw at the end of the game :-p

In platty now, a little lost on where the arena is.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Fair-weather? Hardly. I do praise the team when they deserve it. There are times when things may be a little unstable, but yesterday was an absolute train-wreck. Last night's game against Cortland was not a simple "Oh, they made some mistakes" thing...this is by far the worst I've seen Plattsburgh play...EVER...for many years

Are you saying the team played worse than it did against Buffalo State earlier this season in the 6-3 loss? I wasn't at that game, or this one, but it just seems like they controlled play and couldn't bury the biscuit. You make it out like the Red Dragons skated circles around them.

Please, all Plattsburgh fans don't react this way. I hope Oswego fans, and fans of other teams (or three teams:D) realize this. That's my team, and of course I want them to be successful, but you can't win them all. Sometimes, and this is hard to say, but, I wish they wouldn't make the NCAA's so some Cardinal fans would be a little bit more humble. I think we have a good team, but I've seen Cardinal teams that were a lot better. Those few seasons after Sundberg were tough I'm sure, but it happens. Oswego fans endured tough losses to us. Its sports, things happen, move on. Like someone else said, if you invest so much feeling into this team and that game, I'm worried. It's okay to be mad about it; I'm not thrilled. But to throw your team under the bus (not to mention, being pretty invalid, i.e.: this is the worst they've played ever) is why many people dont take you seriously.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

SCOREBOARDS JUST CRASHED WITH 5 min left in ladies game.....Platty leading 2-1...perhaps #2 pencils and paper for tonight are in order???

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

That was one of the best hockey games I have seen in a long time, only to be ruined by some of the worst officiating that I have seen in a long time. McSweeny made St.Louis look like he knows what he is doing. Before anybody says that I am saying it was the refs fault that Plattsburgh lost I AM NOT (Oswego fans agreed with me when I talked to a couple of them)!!!!!! Both teams had their chances and both had some bounces that didn't go their way (second period that puck that hit the post and sat on the line was about an inch away from going in for Plattsburgh). But here are my beefs with the refs Owen Kelly's hit at the end of the 2nd was the same physical hit that Docking gave with 5 min left in the 3rd. But Docking get's 5 and Kelly got 2 and to me both were borderline calls and I was sitting in the opposite corner near the Plattsburgh bench. With that said the 3rd goal I am pretty sure did not go in because it looked like it was in his chest when Grace hit him and Leis pushed to keep that part of him out of the net. I am not sure if somebody else saw the puck go in and I am wrong (if so I apologize). But Plattsburgh showed that when they are mentally focused they can play with the best and Oswego showed that when down they stayed focused and played their game. Congrats to both teams, ref's personally time to hang up the skates.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

The call was questionable. I guess various representitives from the media in the press box said that Docking left his feet. It happened so fast, I couldn't tell you if it was a bad call or not. I'd have to see a replay.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

On the webcast it looked like Docking caught Lags right in the chest, how he got a contact to the head penalty is beyond me and the fact that he got five minutes for it was all the more baffling. The officiating was consistently crap both ways but I guess you can't really ask for anything more than that. As long as it doesn't get too slanted one way or the other neither team can complain too much. The timing of the call sucked for Plattsburgh but if they would have scored shorthanded or after Oswego took their penalty it wouldn't even be a topic of discussion.

Overall it was a good gut it out win for the Laker's, now they just need to take care of business against Cortland and they can concentrate on the playoffs. In tonight's game they looked like they just cruising for a while and Platty looked real desperate as they should have. When the game was on the line in the third they went out and took it like they have done so often the last few years.

For Plattsburgh now you have to forget about this weekend and win out the rest of the season and you still have a shot at finishing in third place in the league. Once the playoffs arrive it is a new season and we all know Plattsburgh's history when it comes to the playoffs.

One thing that kind of ****ed me off, was when the net got knocked off and was sideways behind the red line they kept play going for quite a while

I think both sides were rather annoyed at that...Gosek more so though it appeared because Emery pulled Leis since they were not stopping play or fixing the net. I don't know the rule for this instance but every game I have seen when the net came off, they always stopped play. There were a few times that the ref or the goalie actually kicked it in but it was only off for a few seconds. This way way longer and begs the question...what would have happen if the Lakers gained control and caught a breakaway with no net on the mornings or if Plattsburgh lost control of the puck and it rolled down in the direction of a then empty net...and in both situations a clear goal would have scored but alas the net was not on due to no stoppage of play.

I'd like to take this time to thank adk46er for the ticket, I had a great time sitting and chatting with you, glad you weren't embarrassed to be seen sitting with an oswego fan.

Oswego changed their game positively in the 2nd period. I saw several things I could not understand about the refs on both sides tonight through the webcast. I won't go through them all but the net coming off with the continued play and the 5 minute major to Plattsburgh were mind boggling. Replay cleary showed a nearly head on collision and they gave Plattsburgh a contact to the head. It was a rough hit...all I can think is Oswego player got the worse of the collision and ref decided to call something...and they have been calling majors with contact to the head but I don't know why it was called on what looked like a collision. (See post on the net coming off I posted before)

Replay on the Oswego goal where Leis got pushed into the net seemed fair. Leis never had control of the puck, gave up a rebound which hit a defender and as Leis fell back, also got pushed back and the puck trickled past the goal line so no whistle was a good call...the puck was never covered...this just looking at the replay on the webcast.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

To the Cardinal fan - a "mature" woman in section F who yelled "Richardson - you are worse than St. Louis!"...you rock! To her friend who chimed in..."Oh no he's not...nobody's worse than that d*ck"...well, words cannot express my admiration.....

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

By the sounds of things Emery was pleased with the effort which is all you can ask for. He also noted the questionable Clark goal was a goal, and Corry is back in the dog house...per the press republican.

Hats off to the Lakers again. Great teams just get it done. No shame in losing to the #1 team in the nation.

Now its on to Morrisville...but after missing the Plattsburgh weekend for some indoor racing with the Tony Stewart, might have to listen to Ducky again from the Providence RI Dunkn Donut Center....they will be racing on a rink, that's close enough to hockey!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Lakers add to Cards' frustration - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 1/30/2011}

"We still have to fine tune some things..." (a work in progress???) ;)

The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team couldn't have played much better Saturday night.

But, the Cardinals still came up short against top-ranked Oswego when Luke Moodie's power-play goal at 9:41 of the third period gave the Lakers a 4-3 victory in State University of New York Athletic Conference play at the Stafford Ice Arena.

Oswego, beating the Cardinals for the fifth time in a row, improved to 12-0 in the conference and 19-2-0 overall, while the Cardinals, who dropped a 2-0 contest to Cortland the night before, are now 6-6 in the SUNYAC and 13-6-1 overall.

Plattsburgh State doubled Oswego in shots on goal, 38-19, but didn't have the edge on the scoreboard where it mattered the most.

"In my 23 years of coaching, I can't remember a time when we played pretty well in back-to-back games like this and didn't win either game," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery.

"Good teams find a way to win. And, right now, we're finding ways to lose. But, I'm still proud of the guys."
The Cardinals and Lakers were tied, at 2-all, entering the third period.

But, Plattsburgh State grabbed a 3-2 advantage on Ryan Craig's power-play goal at 3:41. Vick Schlueter's shot from the side was deflected to Craig, who beat Oswego goalie Paul Beckwith straight on.

The Lakers, however, tied it at the 8:22 mark while being a little fortunate in the process.

Jon Whitelaw got behind the Cardinal defense and went in alone on goalie Josh Leis. Leis made the save, but a Plattsburgh State defenseman, skating back on the play, slid into Leis and knocked the puck loose and just over the line.

Then, just over a minute later, Moodie scored a power-play goal on a tip-in for the game-winner.

"We had a senior take a bad penalty and they were able to score the go-ahead goal," said Emery.

Thoughts of a Plattsburgh State comeback were put in jeopardy with 4:50 remaining when the Cardinals were hit for a five-minute penalty for contact to the head.

But, Oswego was whistled for a too many men on the ice penalty with 1:43 left and Leis was pulled for an extra attacker. The Cardinals, however, weren't able to get the equalizer.

Schlueter, who played a strong game, gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead in the first period with two power-play goals.

The first came on a rebound from the side at 3:26 and the second was nearly from the same spot just inside the near post at the 11:26 mark

But, Oswego cut its deficit in half at the 17:35 mark. Chris Laganiere sent a shot from just beyond the faceoff circle up top to beat Leis.

The Lakers then tied it at 5:58 of the second when an Oswego shot bounced off the boards and in front to Chris Muise, who scored a power-play from in close.

Plattsburgh State nearly took the lead later in the period when a shot was ruled to have hit the post along the ice and bounced out.

"It was a controversial non-goal call on a shot by Dylan Clarke," said Emery. "We looked at the tape and it was a good goal. But, we can't make excuses."

Beckwith finished with 35 saves in net for the Lakers to remain unbeaten in goal this season. Leis stopped 15 shots for the Cardinals.

"We just have to keep working hard," said Emery. "We still have to fine tune some things and we need to get a little better leadership."

The Cardinals are back at it on Tuesday at the Stafford Ice Arena when they close out their 10-game homestand with a big non-conference game with Middlebury.
