Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

College hockey is fundamentally about fans supporting their school. That's what gets people into the sport; whether it's a local team or an alma mater.

I doubt anyone goes to a DIII hockey game because they just want to see hockey, but have no (and never had a) connection to any team. Otherwise they'd be much better served going to a DI or NHL game, obviously.

So while the fans going to the title g ame in 2007 may have gotten into mens hockey first, they did so because it was PLATTSBURGH hockey, not because it was hockey in general. It's not exactly a leap to have them go to go see their team hosting a national championship game.

That's entirely different than fans around the superior areae going to see oswego and middlebury when they have no vested interest in either.

Have a men's frozen four at bowdoin with UW-River Falls, Hamline, St Norbert and Elmira, and you'd have virtually NO ONE there. It has no bearing about how 'good of a fan' the locals are, it's all about the fact that they have no connection to the teams playing.

Go look at Umass-Dartmout from 2006-2008. 200 fans every game, until you get to the semifinals or championship game, and all of a sudden 1500 people show up. A title game draws people with a connection to the school, even if it's 1,000 drunk students chanting obscenities at the other team. It has nothing to do with people wanting to see a higher level of hockey.

How can you possibly believe this? It's absurd.

And while I'm ranting, if you want to talk about the level of women's hockey, someone call me when things like this don't happen anymore, thanks.

Thanks for the link:
"Hockey is hockey. I think the people liked it. It seemed like a nice crowd and just a wonderful evening."

About 1,500 people turned out for the exhibition game, which was non-checking.

Note that the Warroad High School boys team was for a large part, the 2005 Minnesota High School hockey Class A champions, which included future University of North Dakota and St. Louis Blues National Hockey League player T.J. Oshie. One of the highest performing high schools in the country, including 1980's "Miracle" player Dave Christian.

Except that Oshie was already at North Dakota in 2006 and played in the USHL in 2005 after finishing with Warroad. So he didn't play against the women's team.

Norm, you're not disputing any of the points against you. You take snippets of long posts and reply to ones you can spin, and ignore all the arguments you can't refute.

Yes, I did intentionally make it appear that he was in the team (he wasn't), but they certainly are a high caliber team. And, for the most part, my primary point was to create some off-season posts ;)

I have only lurked a few times in the Cafe, but that was enough to convince me that I have no interest in going there.
Last I heard (a few years ago), the traffic generated by the cafe was enough to pay for the whole website.

So think of clicking around there as the price you pay for uscho :p

I'll let others pay the bills. I'm perfectly happy to hang around here. I'm more interested in interacting with a small "select" group of people than a huge population of unknown crazies.

Probably because some fans like to email him non-stop with stupid questions. Feel free to email Steve instead now. He has lots of free time! :D :p

I'm thinking about emailing him to see if he'll tell me what color the new home jerseys are gonna be and what goalie he is gonna start in the first game....:D :p

That and when he will start shaking hands, what is the 2010-11 schedule, who has he recruited, and his thoughts on thunder sticks :p  :D

I can answer both for you now. The new home jerseys are white with red-trim and the P-logo like the current red ones.

Ryan Williams will start the first regular season game (Excluding exhibition and Red/white game)

Do you have in information about the new goalie -- Foley -- coming in? I can't imagine the Cards will be carrying 4 goalies hence someone's not coming back. If its true that Williams is starting the first regular season game, then either Leis or Rossy isn't returning. I presume I know the answer but...

And what's Foley's role expected to be? Backup or is he going to get a chance to compete for the number one job?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

:D Need 4 Goaltenders now since one will be furloughed each week by Governor Paterson.
