Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I'd say Emery's last quote in that article makes it seem like he's definitely looking to bring in at least one goaltender to compete for time because it doesn't sound like he's satisfied with his current tandem or have any confidence in his third stringer that barely saw the crease at all this year.

Maybe Beckwith will transfer...;)

Maybe Potter has a year of eligibility left? :D

In the Monday edition of Behind The Bench (last for the season) Bob stated he was not looking for any goalies.. He is looking for scorers!

IMO, the key quote is:

"We exceeded expectations. We played so many big games on the road, but that was good for us, especially the younger players, and it will help us next year."

Exceed expectations they did (thanks to their performance but also the loss of Hince), but they also created HIGH expectations for next year, let's hope it will help them enough to take the title. Let the progress continue :) !!!

SUNY chancellor to discuss Binghamton U. report (Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 3/27/2010

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The chancellor of New York's public university system is expected to outline steps that will be taken to address shortcomings in school athletics that surfaced in a review of the troubled Binghamton University basketball program.

The investigation of Binghamton's athletic department found dubious enrollments and lax enforcement of academic standards for athletes, among other problems.

Judith Kaye, the state's former chief judge who led the probe, recommended hiring an "athletic oversight officer" for the entire State University of New York system to monitor admissions, the academic progress and behavior of student-athletes, and rules compliance.

SUNY spokesman David Henahan says Chancellor Nancy Zimpher will discuss SUNY's response at a trustees meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

:) I think that since they seem to have breakdowns and not overall poor play a goalie coach would help correct any technical deficiencies they may have. Sometimes going over film and finding flaws make athletic goaltenders more efficient in their movements and make easy saves easy, catch my drift?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Thanks kindly for the info, and hopefully he'll show the same promise as other guys Emery's picked up from the Praries westward (I think it's safe to say Cody Adams worked out pretty well last season). Although I gotta say, that player page has some hilariously unsuited graphic presentations ("here, you'll find that Cobb's total points rose sharply over the season from a low of just 0 to a high of 48, considerably widening the gap with his total goals").

Plattsburgh State gains in national standings (Excerpt from Plattsburgh Press-Republican 4-3-10)

Bolstered by four winter sports that advanced to their respective NCAA Championship, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals stand in 43rd place out of 273 scoring schools in the final winter standings of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup awarded by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

There are 432 active NCAA Division III institutions that are eligible for this prestigious program that rates the best broad-based athletics departments in the nation based on finish in the NCAA championships.
...

Men's hockey was credited with a third-place finish and 83 points, followed by women's hockey (5th, 25), men's basketball (33rd, 25) and men'si ndoor track (55th, 16.5).

With 224.5 total points, Plattsburgh trails only fellow State University of New York Athletic schools Geneseo (305.75 for 27th) and Cortland (305.5 for 28th).

The Cardinals are ahead of such programs from Carnegie Mellon, Rochester, Oneonta, Norwich, Merchant Marine, Oswego, Bowdoin, Fredonia, Brockport, Hobart/William Smith, Rensselaer, Rochester Tech, Clarkson, St. John Fisher, Potsdam and Hamilton.

...

Currently, Plattsburgh is enjoying success with three spring sports: baseball is 15-1 and nationally ranked No. 26 in the coaches' Top 30 poll for the first time ever; men's lacrosse has equaled its best eight-game start with a 7-1 record; and softball went 9-5 on its Florida trip to prep for SUNYAC play. Men's and women's outdoor track have eight meets left on the schedule to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Six Plattsburgh teams so far have made NCAA appearances — one shy of the school record for the same academic year, set in back-to-back years during 2006 and 2007.

Does anyone else keep tabs on this - or care?

Not much is worse than a confused soul, for your education:

What is NACDA and What does it do?

Profile of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA)

Current Membership: More than 6,100 collegiate athletics administrators from the NCAA, NAIA and junior and community colleges

Learfield Sports Directors' Cup
This program honors four all-sports champions in the NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA. Each institution is awarded points in a pre-determined number of sports for men and women. The overall champion is the institution which has a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. The winner in each division receives a crystal trophy.

While not the national one, I do keep tabs on the SUNYAC comissioner's cup standings and get depressed that Oswego is so far behind the rest of the conference in almost every sport except for hockey.

I understand Geneseo and Cortland...but there is no excuse for Oswego to not be able to compete for the third spot yet they are never anywhere close.

This is the exact reason why I vehmitently oppose a move to Division I for Oswego because the rest of the athletic program would suffer even more.
