Cardinals will host Norwich - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 3/10/2011}

No on-line content for tonight's game, just this :(

Chad Anderson scored just 57 seconds into the game Wednesday night and Norwich University never looked back in a 5-1 victory over Curry College in an NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship play-in game.

The wins sends the Cadets (21-5-3) into Saturday's 7 p.m. quarterfinals against Plattsburgh State at Stafford Ice Arena.

Scott Schroeder added two power-play goals for Norwich, while Blake Forkey and Emmond Bells chipped in with a goal each.

The Cadets took a 3-0 lead in the second period before Michael Lopez put Curry on the board.

The Cadets held a 42-16 advantage in shots on goal, with Parker Carroll in net for the victory with 15 saves. Robert Dawson stopped 37 shots for Curry (16-9-3).

Hince overrated?

He led his team to the National Championship game as a Freshman!

He also helped his team win two (2) one goal games against Oswego in the SUNYAC Finals.

I still think if he finished his two years here he would've beat Kyle Jones' all-time wins mark at 88.

He certainly would have had a chance. But, Jones' mark did just get beat by Adrian's Brad Fogal. :)

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

Dude. He NEVER lost to Oswego. He was 6-0-0.

He had one bad game against Neumann and you throw him to the wolves...really?

The problem with the Neumann game is that he bailed on his time....Mentally, he was already in the pros. He gave every impression that night that he was no longer a Cardinal and really let his teammates down.

I think Hince, while his head was in Plattsburgh, had the potential to be the best goaltender Plattsburgh ever had (yes, better than Nik Sundberg). He tried single-handedly to win a National title his freshman year against St. Norbert - he was freaking unbelievable that game.

The never losing to Oswego thing is good for his legacy....but the last thing we all saw was the debacle against Neumann - it's hard to get that taste out of my mouth.

Why did he leave - his departure seemed very unusual, and the fact that he ended up playing in a beer league was just weird. Attitude problem?

No, he was leaving to go pro. He left immediately after that Neumann game. When it didn't work out, it was rumored that he tried to come back to Plattsburgh. Further rumor (I don't know for sure) was that Coach Emery and/or the players didn't want him back. I can't speak to that for sure, but that was the rumor.

He ended up in the beer league after that.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

I finally found something to get a little confident about a Card victory tonight . While Sir Parker Carroll has a good run going , I can't say Im all that impressed with the strength of schedule during that time frame ...... He may well be part of the victory ,if Norwich prevails , but I fear the Norwich forwards having big nights more than anything .

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

And of those shots how many were breakdowns causing 2 on 1s ect...the team was good because they knew they had Hince back there. I still stand by the fact that Hince was mediocre in his last games because Bob told him he wasn't welcomes back. You don't go two years being one of if not the best goalie, to his last few performances.....

Bob was the last to know about his leaving. Pretty pathetic on Hince's part and no loyalty there.

You are right. previous to that game, he was phenominal and could have been all American had he stayed.

Hince is still drinking it up with the beer league Knoxville Ice Bears. ;)

What he told the media at the time was that he was leaving because he couldn't afford to continue in Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh was raising their tuition at the time, and it just wasn't going to be possible for him to afford.

Cadets get revenge over Cards - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 3/13/2011}

From the beginning of the third period Saturday night, the officials appeared determined to let the Norwich University and Plattsburgh State men's hockey teams decide the outcome on the ice.

That is up until the 15:46 mark of overtime.

Chad Anderson's power-play goal in the extra session lifted the defending national champion Cadets to a controversial 3-2 victory in the NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals at the Stafford Ice Arena.

The win sends Norwich (22-5-3), which avenged two regular season losses to the Cardinals at the Stafford, into the Final Four being held in Minneapolis, Minn.

"That was a great hockey game," said Norwich head coach Mike McShane. "It was a classic game — up and down. I was impressed by the second effort on both teams.

"That's the best team we've played all year."

No penalties were called in the third period and none in the overtime until Kyle Kudroch was surprisingly sent off for interference in the neutral zone. That ended a span of 37:06 without a player being whistled for a penalty.

The Cardinals nearly killed it off.

But, with three seconds left in the man advantage, Kyle Thomas got the puck down low to a wide-open Anderson, who beat Josh Leis.

"It's a shame the game and our season ended that way," said an emotional Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "This is the worst I've felt as a coach.

"I feel bad for our 24 players. They gave everything they had and followed the game plan. I felt we dominated a lot of the game and I didn't know what to say to the team.

"I couldn't have asked for more from them."

The Cardinals (20-8-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Dylan Clarke sent a pass from the side to Dan Sliasis on the far side of the net. Sliasis one-timed the pass into the net at the 17:27 mark.

But, with the Cadets on the power play early in the second, Pier-Olivier Cotnoir sent a wrister from between the face-off circle and blue line through some players and into the net to tie it just 29 seconds in.

Then, shortly after at 3:17, Cotnoir took a pass from behind the end line near the slot to give Norwich a 2-1 lead with the Cadets skating with an extra player.

The Cadets were lethal on the power play, going three-for-four in the contest.

"Norwich has great forwards and we knew they were better than we are on the power play," said Emery.

The Cardinals, however, drew even late in the second on Kyle Kudroch's power-play goal with 24 seconds remaining in the stanza. Ryan Corry sent in a shot and Kudroch got to the puck in close and tied the game.

Ironically, that was the last penalty whistled until Kudroch was sent to the box late in overtime.

"Our players were ready to play at the start and played well the entire game," said Emery. "Norwich has a lot of talent, but we have to focus on the team.

"And, I felt we played a great game as a team tonight."

The Cardinals outshot the Cadets in each of the first three periods by a 28-15 margin. Norwich, however, carried the play early in overtime before Plattsburgh State started to come on later in the stanza.

Plattsburgh State finished with a 31-21 shot advantage. Both goaltenders played very well as Parker Carroll made 28 saves for the Cadets and Leis 18 stops.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

The penalty call was unfortunate, but lets be honest, it was a penalty. Sure there were some instances where there could have been penalties called on both teams before hand. I don't know why that particular one was called, but it was a penalty.

However, to call it "controversial" IMHO is a farce.

Exactly, they were letting them play. And its hard to call and elbow when both hands are down....he wanted to call interference but when he realized the puck was there he couldn't. Not a way I'd want to win a game, especially one this good.

Be honest with yourself , what you are really saying saying is " We Win" deal with it . If you were on the other end you'd find some eloquent way of stating your viewpoint so save it ...nobody cares , Game over , Contoversy over , so the farce is over . Good luck in Minnesota .

Unfortunate - yes, not merely because it was on Plattsburgh, but because it went contrary to the tone the official's seemed to have set beginning on the third period. Unfortunate because it denied both teams and both fans the satisfaction of proving - on the ice - who was the best team. Let's face it, had the call pattern been consistent, no one would could it "controversial", but it wasn't, it wasn't flagrant and in keeping with the tempo the officials set beginning in the third period, it shouldn't have been called - it is what it is.

I would have expected nothing less from you, Prez.,being a fan of the winning team but I was beginning to think there was some maturity shown in some of your previous comments. Deciding the game on THAT particular penalty is truly and injustice and unfair to the Plattsburgh Cardinals, and you know it. Spin it any way you want, but one will never know how it would have gone playing full strength.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the game. It sounds like it was a great game, up until the last couple of minutes. I believe the Platty fans that it was a stupid call, but the way I sum it up is that we shouldnt have been in that situation. Next time, lets close the game before it gets to that point. Good luck at Ridder, Cadets and hopefully Plattsburgh can improve on their good season next year.

How did I show immaturity? The refs called a penalty on what was a legitimate penalty. I said the timing was unfortunate which it was. Do I think it should have been called given the flow of the game? Probably not, but you can't be upset that the referee called a penalty on a legitimate penalty. It's not like they called something that wasn't a legit penalty.

I'm glad I don't have to live by Birds approval to be satisfied in life. You take everything so offensive when it comes to Plattsburgh.

I wasn't gloating, I was simply providing my opinion on the subject, which is what message boards are for, am I right? I did not disrespect Plattsburgh in anyway. They played phenomenal and were the only team probably other than Manhattanville that absolutely took it to the Cadets for long stretches of play this year.

It was a tremendous game played between two great teams and I have nothing but respect for the student athletes leaving everything they had out on the ice.

The ref called a penalty. It's over. We can't change it.

I'd love to see what the Plattsburgh fan base's posts would look like had Plattsburgh won the game and Norwich was called for a penalty.

This will be my last post in this thread on this matter.
