Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

Just the fact we are still discussing Leis speaks volume at this point in the season. He is the best we have but that is where it ends , he is not capable of being the difference in a game ,period . He is just an average goalie at a very good Hockey Program . he will not be memorable ,nor missed , when his stint is over . As a matter of fact I think he will be best known as the guy who kept Clarke & Satim from the NCAA Tourney their senior year . Is this fair for me to say hell no its not fair but he is the one who hasnt stepped up and I hope something new is on the horizon.

My fear is that recruiting a goalie has not really proven to be Cardinal strength (of course an occasional exception). I remember wishing for a solid goalie more than I do, feeling we were set from the net out . Besides , who is in charge of goalie development at Plattsburgh ? Im still waiting .......right , ....there really hasnt been any measured improvement with Leis .

Plattsburgh tends to keep the oppositions shots down so stand on yourr head ,shot after shot acrobatics not an issue , just block the stuff you can see and for god sakes direct the puck to the corners. Soft goals kill you when you expend so much effort on team D that you cant score 5 on 5 even with a 2-1 shot advantage.

It wouldnt surprise me to see Plattsburgh lose an opening round SUNY Playoff game home or away!!!! I think Oswego knows we cant beat them so if we were to make it to a final in Oswego a 3 plus goal beating is just as likely. This team is not consistent and they dont take care of business ,why would we be expecting the miracle on ice ,it isnt going to happen

I will listen to tonight's game in Fredonia but I just dont care any more , our conference record is embarrassing. Im tired of hearing , great leadership , hard work and that it was ANOTHER frutrating loss. I remember when we had the talent that frustrated other teams .........maybe next season .....but we better have one hell of a recruiting class coming in because we could be sinking to the bottom of the conference if we dont!

Wow, I hope your not a teacher or a coach. No, this is not the best year in the conference, but build on it, don't put down!

Just a realist ! I thought that we would run the table , in conference , starting with Geneseo but we are 3-3 , that is pathetic , . The team would have been in a very good position for NCAA Bid going 5-1 over that period but we didnt answer the bell. We out played everyone ,got great leadership from everyone but we lost ground . When can you remember a quality Plattsburgh team that couldnt stay on task more than this bunch , I cant .

My fear is we just arent that good....now take Satim and Clarke away and what does the future look like to you ?

Plattsburgh is a quality team. They've hit a rocky patch, but they can come up big from time to time. Witness the fact that they own 2 of NU's 5 losses.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

I'm not a mathematician here, but I can't see a scenario that gets Plattsburgh the #3. I think we are officially eliminated from that race. Plattsburgh has 16, Buff State and Morrisville each have 17. Plattsburgh has 1 game left, and that is Potsdam. That means Plattsburgh has a maximum of 18 points.

Buffalo State has 1 game left, against Morrisville. Morrsiville has Fredonia and Buffalo State.

If Mo'ville beats or ties Fredonia, a W or T against Buff State give them #3, and a loss would give Buff State #3.

If they lose to Fredonia, it still doesn't matter for the Cardinals because 2 points must be divided over the 2 teams ahead of them. A tie in the Buff-Mo game, coupled with a Plattsburgh win, would create a 3-way tie for #3, and I'm fairly certain that Plattsburgh comes out on the bottom of that comparison, with a 1-3 record against those teams. If either team takes the 2 points, they would have sole possession of #3 at 19 points.

If Morrisville beats Buffalo State and Plattsburgh beats Potsdam, Plattsburgh would pass Buffalo for #4. If Morrisville goes 0-2 on the weekend, Plattsburgh would pass THEM for #4. Any other scenario keeps them at #5.

Some good news, though, is that #6 Fredonia is 3 points behind with 1 game to play, so Plattsburgh can finish no worse that 5th and no better than 4th.

As a side note: If Morrisville earned all 4 points next weekend, they would have 21 points. If Geneseo earned 0 or 1 points visiting Cortland and Oswego, that would give Morrisville the #2 seed, and Geneseo #3. If Geneseo earns 2 points over those 2 games in any fashion, that would leave Morrisville and Geneseo tied for #2, with a 1-1 H2H record, and again I don't remember what the next tiebreaker is... If Geneseo earns at least 3 points over the weekend, they lock up the #2.

To recap:
Oswego is locked at #1
Geneseo locks up #2 with at least 3 points, can finish no worse than 3rd.
Morrisville can finish anywhere 2-5.
Buffalo State can finish anywhere 3-5
Plattsburgh can finish at either #4 or #5
Fredonia locks playoffs with a W or T against Morrisville, or a Cortland tie or loss against either Geneseo or Brockport
Cortland takes #6 with a sweep of Geneseo and Brockport and a Fredonia loss to Morrisville
Potsdam and Brockport are out of Playoff contention.

"Williams went in last night in relief and it was a positive," said Emery. "And, it was a negative with Josh (Leis). That's why we went with Ryan."

And that's why I had a feeling Williams would get the start in net last night. Good for Ryan.

I think CardinalSin nailed it with Leis. He's just an average goalie at a very hockey program. He will not be memorable, nor missed, when his stint is over. As a matter of fact I think he will be best known as the guy who kept Clarke & Satim from the NCAA Tourney their senior year .

Hockey Cards rebound - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 2/13/2011}

This was a little more like it.

Kyle Kudroch's goal late in the third period gave the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team a 3-1 win at Fredonia Saturday night in State University of New York Athletic Conference play.

Plattsburgh State, bouncing back from Friday night's 4-3 loss at Buffalo State, improved to 16-7-1 overall and 8-7 in the conference.

"It's better when you can get a win and forget about last night's game," said Cardinals' head coach Bob Emery.

"We've been preaching about keeping the puck out of our net. You have to play good defense and get good goaltending. And, that's what we got tonight."

The Cardinals held a 1-0 lead through two periods before Mat Hehr's power-play goal tied it for the Blue Devils (11-12-1, 6-8-1) at 9:44 of the third stanza.

But, Kudroch put Plattsburgh State back on top, this time to stay, at the 17:54 mark with his 11th goal of the season.

"We got a three-on-two jump late in the game and Kyle got all of it," said Emery.

Dylan Clarke's empty-net goal with 20 seconds remaining, his 16th of the season, added the finishing touch.

"Fredonia is always a tough place for us to play and it's never easy to win here," said Emery.

Dan Sliasis' power-play goal with 56 seconds left in the first period gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead and it stayed that way through the second.

Both teams took 23 shots on goal and Ryan Williams, getting a rare start in net for Plattsburgh State, stopped 22 of 23 shots to get the win.

"Williams went in last night in relief and it was a positive," said Emery. "And, it was a negative with Josh (Leis). That's why we went with Ryan."

"No doubt, this is a big win for us because I liked the way we won. We played smart. We also had our chances and I would have liked to see us be more opportunistic. Still, I liked our leadership."

The Cardinals went one-for-two on the power-play, while the Blue Devils were one-for-five.

"I'll have to take a look at the tape on the penalties," said Emery. "Our penalty kill was good, however, except for the one time they scored."

The Cardinals close out their regular season on Friday night at home against Potsdam at 7 p.m.

In a surprise score in the SUNYAC Saturday, Morrisville skated to a 5-2 win at Oswego, handing the Lakers their first loss in league play.

I love you armchair critics. You rip amd criticize these kids left and right. I'd like to see you go in the net and see how you did. Or maybe Leis or whoever else you "experts" decide to rip apart can go th work with you and critique the job you are doing. These are student athletes, not pro athletes, they pay (unbelievably) to be ripped by so "called" supporters. Because that's what you "fans" of D 3 hockey are supposed to be. If you pay the prices pro fans do then you have every right to be critical. But your comments here go beyond criticism and equate letting in a couple of goals with the player being somehow unworthy of life. Something is very wrong when you are so wrapped up in a team that no one 50 miles outside of Plattsburgh knows or cares about. Why don't you tell him what you think of him to his face, or better yet go up to his family at a game and tell them how their son has ruined your life. And as for Satim and Clarke I saw a lot of negative posts here about them last year so I wouldn't be so worried about their feelings now. Sadly this is all about you and your shallow meaningless lives. Go join a league, maybe you'll find out how it feels like to play and maybe you'll realize these guys all play for the love of the game and are their own worst critics. Think before you shoot your mouth off.

Let me give you the same advice I received as a positive rep when I tried to knock some sense into this kid a not long ago.

Oh Henry! ...sorry, I couldn't let that go...

Can't disagree with anything you have said, although this board is tame compared to what you hear at the rink - shared with players, friends and families within earshot. Almost as bad as what you get on the sidelines of a U12 girls soccer match in the spring...and those are the parents!:D

I dont know Josh Leis , I dont know his parents ....... I do know Dylan's Family and Eric's Family as I speak to them every home game they attend. I would like to meet Josh , I m sure he is a great kid . Im also sure his parents are good folks also.
I have been a supporter of Cardinal Hockey since it was a club sport . I may have been on on the NCAA infraction list when the Cards were stripped of their National Championship because I sharpened and repaired skates for the players free of charge so I can hold an intelligent discussion about Cardinal teams past , present good bad or great with the best of you. When I express frustration with Josh just maybe its because I keep hearing the same things about this team , great work , great leadership blah blah blah , all I know is something has us in 5th place in the conference . I can tell you one thing it isnt my words , and if we are playing with such effort and leadership which I truly believe Bob must think they are then the only thing I can say for sure is someone is letting in more shots in the losses than they are keeping out , that is how the score is kept right.

I just dont think the Goalie situation is still solid , now what? Williams off the Autopsy Table to lead us to the National Championship what a script that would be but lets face it he got moth balled for a reason . I hope Plattsburgh plays solid down the stretch and I will buy my 3 season tickets every year regardless of how this turns out but I just think this team has far too much talent to lose to the likes of Buff State , Cortland , Morrisville without someone asking what the ****** is going on here.

I've decided to take the high road because it is not my intention to personally attack Josh Leis or any player on any team. Let this serve as a public apology to Josh . his family and anyone who may have been offended by my remarks. I want to enjoy the sprit of the web site and will refrain from these type of remarks in the future.

Just back from the Buff/Fredonia trip and all I have to say is that this team worked their butts off this weekend! I am proud to be a Cardinal fan and I will continue to support this team through it all. I would hope and believe that most of you out there feel the same. We must go forward and not look back to what might have been. GO CARDS!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

Leis is playing to the best of his ability. I can't ask for anything more; no one else should either. And, I'm pretty sure Leis wouldnt be the reason why Clarke and Satim don't make the NCAA tourney their senior year. To say Plattsburgh has a goalie recruitment probably is absolutely erroneous...coaches would go nutty if they ever had kids like Hince or Sundberg playing for their school in its history.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

Last year at the SUNYAC finals and at Placid I saw a couple of Cards "fans" yelling at a few guys, Leis being one, saying that they let everybody down and it really irked me. I have to ask, how did they let anyone down? They were the second best team in SUNYAC and one of the last four teams playing hockey in Division 3 and lost by a goal to the eventual champions. Most programs would kill to be able to say they had a season like that. Believe me, the players feel rotten enough when they fail to achieve their goals that they set for themselves, they don't need people questioning their heart and their character.

Josh Leis is certainly not the best goalie I have ever seen but he doesn't deserve to get tossed under the bus every time Plattsburgh loses a game. It's one thing to say he was a little off or would have liked to have one back but some people seem to blame him for every goal and every loss and that shouldn't happen.

The team gives you good entertaining hockey, win or lose and I think that is all they really owe the fans at this level.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

If Plattsburgh State loses, it takes a bad performance in net for me to throw Leis under the bus.

I.e - Giving up four goals on 11 shots in the first 25 minutes of a hockey game. Three of the four in which he should have saved. Just an example, I'm NOT dwelling on it.

Everybody has a bad day. I think that Leis gives you a better chance of winning a game than anybody else. I am sure there are plenty of teams who would find Leis to be an upgrade over who they have - probably more than half. He's not Brian Hince - but then Brian Hince was not always Brian Hince either. He's not Ryan Klingensmith either, but Klinger and Hince are both gone.
