Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11 - "We still have to fine tune some things..."

He was phenomenal. Stood on his head against us in the 2007 SUNYAC Championship.

Not saying he wasn't phenomenal and I wasn't there but wasn't the score of that game like 6-4?

To this day I don't think I've ever seen a better single-game goaltending performance in college hockey than what Amborski did that night on the shores of Lake Ontario.

A very close second is Adam Dekker in 2005ish when he let up one goal on the weekend against Elmira in two games. Pioneerfan11 had the following as his signature for awhile after the game in reference to my game recap after the weekend:

"Three stars of the game:

3. Adam Dekker's stick

2. Adam Dekker's blocker

1. Adam Dekker's glove"

Yes, that's correct. And I was there. I remember a few times when he stacked the pads when someone took a point blank shot on the doorstep. He also gloved a few potential goals on one-timer oppertunities.

I have that game on VHS somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

Chris Weiland netted his first goal for Castleton last night (http://www.uscho.com/box/mens-hockey/2011/02/04/castleton-vs-southern-maine/).
Now I admit that I was kind of partial to this kid because he played in prep school in Ct., not far from where I live, but it seemed odd that the Cards couldn't find a way to work him into the system this year. He had lots of playing time last year and pretty good numbers for a freshman. Emery mentioned him by name in the first, pre-season BtheB. Wonder what happened. In any event, good for Chris.

Puzzling year for hockey Cardinals - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 2/5/2011}

Success against non-conference foes doesn't carry over to SUNYAC play

It's been a difficult season to comprehend for the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team.

How can the Cardinals beat non-conference teams, such as Norwich, Middlebury and Neumann at home?

And, then, how can Plattsburgh State drop State University of New York Athletic Conference home games to Buffalo State, Morrisville and Cortland?

What it adds up to for the Cardinals is an 8-0-1 record against non-conference foes and a 6-6 mark in the conference.

"We can't be looking in the rear view mirror," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "The past is in the past.

"There hasn't been a game, since the first period of our first games, where we didn't play with emotion, energy and effort. We could play a little smarter, but the players are giving it everything they can.

"The puck isn't going in the net for us."

Plattsburgh State has four SUNYAC regular season games remaining to do something about their .500 conference record, beginning with the 7 p.m. game tonight at Morrisville.

The Mustangs (9-9-1, 6-4-1) are currently in third place in the SUNYAC standings. Morrisville is one point ahead of the Cardinals, with a game in hand. The Mustangs, however, dropped an 8-5 home setback to Potsdam on Friday night.

"I've said all along that people underestimate the quality of the conference," said Emery. "And, the conference is getting better and better.

"Last weekend against Cortland and Oswego, we played well enough to win. But, we didn't.

"The Morrisville game is a big one for us. We still, however, have to play every game in the present. We won the SUNYAC championship when we finished fourth in the regular season standings and we went to the finals another time after finishing fifth."

Morrisville has been strong in net, with senior Caylin Relkoff (7-9-1, 3.55 gaa). Relkoff stopped 32 shots when the Mustangs skated to a 3-2 victory in Plattsburgh on Nov. 13.

"We have to think defense, defense, defense," said Emery. "We have to be prepared to win a 1-0 game. And, if we can get two or more goals, it will be gravy for us."

The Mustangs have eight players with 10 points or more, led by junior forward Geoff Matzel (11-6-17), sophomore forward Tyler Swan (5-11-16) and senior forward Bobby Cass (6-9-15).

The Cardinals, meanwhile, completed a 10-game homestand with a 2-1 win over Middlebury College on Tuesday and compiled a 7-2-1 record in those 10 games.

Plattsburgh State's last road game was on Dec. 7, a 4-1 win at Skidmore College.

High-scoring forwards Patrick Jobb and Nick Jensen, who are both out injured, will be game-time decisions tonight.

The Cardinals are at Buffalo State and Fredonia next weekend before closing out the regular season at the following weekend against Potsdam at the Stafford Ice Arena.

That was a very big win for the Cards. Great all around effort. I think satim deserves all american status. The past 2 years in a row he has hands down been the best two way player the Cards have seen. He is also tied for second in the nation with 5 game winning goals!!! He is one of the most underrated players I have seen in a long time.

Cardinals gain revenge - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 2/6/2011}

Dan Sliasis' goal midway through the third period provided some needed insurance for the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team in a 6-2 State University of New York Athletic Conference win at Morrisville Saturday night.

The Cardinals (15-6-1, 7-6) moved one point ahead of the Mustangs (9-10-1, 6-5-1) in the conference standings, with Morrisville still having a game in hand.

"It was a bittersweet win for us," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "On the positive side, I was happy we found a way to win.

"But, we had some players who disrespected their teammates by taking dumb penalties. I don't care if we don't win another game this year — discipline comes first."

The Cardinals took a 3-2 lead into the third period when Sliasis scored at 6:35 to give the visitors an important two-goal edge.

"(Zach) Hepler had a quick up and Sliasis made a great effort to score," said Emery. "It was a great goal."

The Cardinals ran into some penalty trouble late in the contest, but Eric Satim tallied an empty-net goal with 37 seconds remaining and Kyle VanDermale added the final Plattsburgh State goal with one second left.

"Take away a couple of bad plays and we still played pretty well," said Emery.

The Mustangs grabbed an early lead just 2:24 into the contest on Nick Kulas' goal.

But, Dylan Clarke tallied an unassisted goal shortly after, at 3:12, to pull the Cardinals even before Kyle Kudroch scored a power-play goal at the 8:01 mark and Eric Satim an even-strength marker to give Plattsburgh State a 3-1 lead after one.

Bobby Cass' goal 28 seconds into the second period pulled Morrisville to within 3-2 where it remained until Sliasis' goal.

Plattsburgh State, avenging an earlier 3-2 home loss to the Mustangs, outshot Morrisville, 40-18, with Josh Leis making 16 stops for the Cardinals and Caylin Relkoff 34 saves for the Mustangs.

Plattsburgh State went one-of-four on the powerplay, while Morrisville went scoreless on seven tries with a man advantage.

"Our penalty kill was great," said Emery. "Matt MacLeod, Cody Adams and Paul Puglisi did a great job on defense, as well as our forwards. And, Josh made the saves."

It was a good weekend for the Cardinals, with Buffalo State losing to Geneseo, 3-2. Plattsburgh State is currently in third place, one point ahead of both Morrisville and Buffalo State. The Cardinals are also even in games with the Bengals.

"I'm not focusing on the standings," said Emery. "We need to take care of the game we're playing and take advantage of our scoring chances."

The Cardinals return home before heading back on the road for a big weekend at Buffalo State and Fredonia.

Norm, funny you posted this. I was on this page about a week ago. I think I found myself typing in 'Plattsburgh State Hockey' into Google and this auction site came up for a 2001 National Championship ring.

Is anybody else having problems listening to the replay of BTB from the WIRY site? I downloaded the most recent upgrade of Real Player and it didn't make a difference. I don't know?!

I am too. I thought it was just me. I didn't even try this week; I was hoping someone would give us the short version like last week.

I clicked on the link and it said it wasn't playing because I didn't have the most recent Real Player update. I downloaded it...and nothing. I have a night class on Monday night's from 6-8:30, so I rely on the BTB replay on WIRY's site.

I also had this problem. What's a bit scary is that for s&g I tried playing a show from a few weeks ago that I had downloaded, and got the same error. I also did the recommended upgrade.
I sure hope we didn't inherit a bug from WIRY

I contacted Real Player customer support, long story short "Ok, this is a problem with the specific link you're trying to access. I suggest you contact the web master or the creator of the site. I've tried it in my end and I'm also receiving the same error message." - I have left a related message on the WIRY Facebook page.

It does appear to be a syntax error (whatever that is) I sent an email to WIRY in hopes Roy can figure it out. He is the techincal guru at the station.

They did post this:

We (WIRY Radio) are aware of the issue with Behind the Bench. We are having trouble uploading content to our website at the moment. We are working on the problem and hope to have Monday's Behind the Bench uploaded as soon as our website issue is resolved, which should be in a day or two. Thank you for letting us know
