Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Forgot to mention that the two new scoreboards are up and look pretty nice. With the center score board gone, the rink looks bigger.

I will try to grab a photo of the new boards on Friday. It will give me a reason to check out another captain's skate. Can't really get a read on the goalies in just one viewing. :D

This is on both ends of the rink. Only diff. between the two is the bottoms. This one say 'Cardinal Country' the other one has a 'Friends of Plattsburgh' ad.

I've always wondered why these modern scoreboards all have lighted arrows for "GOAL" and "PENALTY"..

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

It's Plattsburgh. They don't know any better:D ;)

that's what happens when you buy bran new stuff..... unlike some other "upper SUNYAC" school who bought a used one just cause it has video options.:D :p last I heard the school is working on getting a new video board to go next to one of the scoreboards which will allow for instant replay and other live video features.

Will Instant Replay be allowed on the video board?

I seem to remember a few years ago, Oswego Athletic Director Tim Hale not allowing WTOP to put replays up on the video board because it was against D-III rules.

Is this an actual rule? I'm looking at your norm;) , Or was Mr. Hale on a power trip?

See "NCAA Ice Hockey Video Replay Policies and Procedures" (Appendix C) here - includes the following:
...When a referee requests a review, they will contact the instant-replay official by direct phone from the timer’s bench. When a review is requested by the referee or instant replay official, the public address announcer shall make the following announcement: “The play is being reviewed by video replay.”
...
During the period of review, no replay of the situation may be shown on the arena video screen or any other public video monitor.

There is also this (see page 13):
Video Screens. If electronic video replay screens are available, they may be used at the facility’s expense. Replays of any officials’ calls are not permissible. Video screens may not display advertising.

So basically, it can be used to replay big hits, goals, and big saves... so long as those event are not under scrutiny by the officials? Am I understanding this right?

During NCAA Tournaments, the above is true (i.e. NO replay of any official calls - period), during regular season play, once an official notes "The play is being reviewed by video replay"; the play can not be shown until after the officials have made their final determination.

Note, in my initial post, the first quote is from the “NCAA Ice Hockey - 2008-10 RULES AND INTERPRETATIONS”, while the second quote is from the “2009 NCAA DIVISION III MEN’S ICE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP OPERATIONS MANUAL”.

I've heard that posters and flyers published by the Athletic Dept are saying the game is friday 10/16, what's up? I thought it was Saturday 10/17?

Since they (Concordia) have a league contest against McGill on Friday 10/16, which will be their sixth game (fourth league matchup) of the season, I believe the "posters and flyers" are in error. Note also, they lost their Non Conference season opener Friday 9/25 against Waterloo 6-3.

Now in his junior year, defenseman Jesse Goodsell of the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team was named to the 2006-07 CIS all-rookie team (also still a rookie after "two years in the QJAAA with the Champlain College Cougars").

I hope you mean "pink fluffy bunnies with cinnamon buns on top", because having a "captain's skate" or "captain's practice" will get Platty in trouble with the NCAA. :D

QJAAA is Quebec equivalent of Jr A. Champlain College is Grade 12/13 and has been part of that league for years. As such I am not sure what your point is.

If Concordia were an NCAA school and he had been a member of the NJCAA, he would not be playing this year, was the point, as he would have used up his eligibility. Note I prefer the CIS model, but also recognize the potential for abuse, if the 4/5 NCAA eligibility rules were not in effect.
