Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Any more on the goalies? How are they looking in the "fluffy bunny" or whatever practices?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Based on what I've seen, it is a two man battle for the goaltending #1 job.

Sounds good. I wonder if Bob will have an everyday guy by the beginning of the season or if he'll go platoon style (a la Erbsland/O'Neil). Probably the latter at least until a front runner emerges. Should be interesting.

Has anyone heard exactly whats going to happen with tickets this year? Trying to figure out what day to take off to come get some tickets. Not chancing that **** phone thing this year. The website says TBA...less then a month away and there is nothing...go figure..

We got a letter a couple weeks ago from Bruce Almighty saying the season tickets would be available for pickup at the Concordia exhibition game. Silly me, I thought the whole point was to avoid standing in line. For ten bucks a game, you'd think they could at least mail the tickets out ahead of time (especially to someone like yourself who is out of the area)? I'm a fan now for 28 years and I look forward to the games, but the PSUC bluebloods have really made a debacle out of this ticket thing and it gets more nauseating every year.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

I'm not talking about the reserved seats, I was wondering about Gen Admission for single game tickets.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Plattsburgh's exhibition opponent the Concordia-Montreal Stingers were shutout this past Sept. 30 by the UQTR Patriotes (University of Quebec - Trois Rivieres) by a score of 11-0.

I'm not talking about the reserved seats, I was wondering about Gen Admission for single game tickets.

They updated the site today - 10/6/09 (coincidentally the day after I sent an e-mail requesting clarification - which, as of yet, is unanswered):

2009-10 Men's Hockey Single-Game Tickets (Advance Sales)
The admission costs for single games are $5 regular-season reserved seat, $8 Oswego (Nov. 7) and $10 per day of Cardinal Classic (Jan. 1-2, two games on both days). These tickets would be sold on game-day only at the Field House Box Office, starting 1-and-a-half hours before the start of contest, while supplies last.

"would be sold" vs "will be sold" - hummm -(maybe there aren't any - i.e. would be sold if we had any) ;)

Method of Payment
The Fieldhouse Ticket Box Office accepts payment by:

•Cash
•Check
•Major credit cards
Sorry, phone orders are not available.

How does 1 1/2 hrs. before game time constitute an "advanced" ticket sale?
Remy, looks like you can save both your leave time and your phone minutes. But hey, at least Cardinal Hockey is a tough ticket now ("...just like Fenway PAAAK!"). Right Coach?? All you Delventhal advocates out there need to take a good solid look at what Norm highlighted above. Completely unaccomodating and totally non user friendly.
Maybe the NCAA should stop worrying about Captain's practices and take a look at this? They've alienated quite a few solid, long time fans with all this snobbery and what goes around will come around.

Renovations

Renovations

Good thing PSU got the rink renovations done when they did.

Yesterday the Governor announced mid-year cuts of $90M to this year's SUNY budget, next year's budget is supposedly twice as deep in the crapper, and prospects are even worse for 2011/12.

No non-emergent construction projects have been approved this year nor are expected to be approved in the forseeable future.

In Plattsburgh's case, the deteriorated condition of the 30+ years old, extensively used bleachers would likely have been deemed “emergent”. Though it likely would have been scaled back, such as, perhaps no balcony and no expanded and renovated press box and likely less cosmetic renovations, such as the new paint job, new glass, new score boards, etc.

Emergent is interpreted as someone's life being in imminent danger (Unless a sliver in a Provost's hindquarters is considered as life threatenting)

The bleachers (which personally, I loved) life expectancy was significantly exceeded and they had deteriorated to a point where a real danger of collapse existed (as well as beyond being reasonably repaired) - failure to replace them would have constituted placing someone's life(s) "in imminent danger".

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Just a little FYI, NYS is shelling out a few hundred thousand dollars for a temporary fence at our facility while they build a multi million dollar building for the clinically mentally ill inmates in our state. Yes temporary. When the building is complete the fence will then be torn down and tossed out. What’s a few hundred thousand dollars of our tax money in NY? This will also replace the over 4 million dollar project they built in the basement of one of our buildings that will now become wasted space. All these cuts, yet Paterson has no problem giving his secretaries a 37% raise. Tough job pushing papers and answering phones for a $150,000 a year job.

I liked the bleachers too. Sure the seats are sharp, but I think it was easier to navigate around other fans with the bleacher setup. Replacing with new bleachers would have been much easier on their budget and maybe they'd have some leftover coin for other things. I think with a rebuild project like that, you focus on accentuating your positives. The Stafford's biggest positive was its large capacity. It is now average in that department. The coach placed much emphasis on "keeping up with the Joneses" and "having one of the premier facilities in DIII". I would say that, cosmetically speaking, he has certainly achieved that. But, its hard to "keep up with the Joneses" when your biggest rival can accomodate 1000 more fans than you can. Going to Placid is a blast, but what if hosting the Frozen Four became a "home rink" thing again? I think we'd be S.O.L.

More than just the initial construction costs had to be weighed, the long-term cost of bleachers versus the seats would be significantly higher (i.e. life expectancy, maintenance & repair/upkeep - not to mention the post-game cleaning - yes, I have talked to the custodial staff - they love the seats over the bleachers) :( - but I still loved & prefer bleachers:).
