I totally agree the athletic department should not be the primary fund provider, but I do believe they could be the leader (particularly since no one else has). Funding should be available for numerous sources, in addition to the Student Association (SA) who collect a student activity fee for purposes such as these, there is Cartwells (exclusive campus meal service provider and operator of the sports concessions), CAS (not-for-profit campus based organization whose mission includes tasks such as this), the booster club, and I am sure area businesses could also be convinced to provide some of their co-op and other advertising revenue, and of course it doesn't have to be provided free. Priority seating should go to Plattsburgh students, but excess capacity, could be sold to the general population - perhaps, season reserved seating, at a significant price (survey determined feasibility) could be sold to anyone, and this could provide funding as well. I am very confident it is a workable project.
I've done the bus thing in the past, and reviewed trips over the past several years. It requires a lot of time and effort, dedicated to the trips, and not just funding. If the athletic department gets involved, they're probably going to have to offer trips to women's games as well. Mixing students and non-students on the same bus doesn;t always work well either.
I hardly see any purpose in continuing this kind of comment. We have heard enough of this from last year. Could we possibly start this next season out without such nonsense?
While I certainly agree we heard enough about it last year and though things haven’t changed, we don't have to be reminded of the Ahmadinejad protégé we have masquerading as an Athletic Director. It was nevertheless, my sincere reply to the question below.
Name calling again? Comparing Bruce to the Iranian dictator now? You take Plattsburgh hockey way too seriously. I will again state that as an alumnus, I think he's done a great job for the college as Athletic Director. This will be hard for folks on this forum to believe, but Plattsburgh does offer more than one sport. For the Department as a whole, he's done a great job with Plattsburgh althletics.
The national championships in DIII men's hockey do not occur without a host school. Plattsburgh does not host without his involvment and ok.
So if you went to Lake Placid to see Plattsburgh play, you can thank him for helping that occur.

Not to mention hosting NCAA Div III regionals in basketball, softball, and I think Plattsburgh has hosted NCAA soccer since Bruce's arrival. Softball has hosted both with and without Plattsburgh's team participating. The track team has sent members to nationals (the team may have qualified, I'm sure Norm can research that). The level of play of Plattsburgh athletics across the board is higher than it has ever been, all under the eye of the current Athletic Director. I think that is closer to what he is supposed to be doing than constantly catering to some disgruntled hockey fans.
I know the "die hard" fans that haven't missed a game since the Reagan administration aren't happen with the new rink, but after Norwich, Middlebury, and Oswego built the rinks they had, the college had to do something to keep up. The old Stafford, while charming, must have looked third-world to recruits comparing Plattsburgh to the above mentioned schools.

Some 2 hrs to the West along Rt 11.....You're not cool with Norm's Iranian dictator/Brucie comparison but our old barn looked third world?
No doubt he has been "in the right place at the right time" (riding the coattails of others), and that he is an opportunist, which is not always a bad thing, the ability to recognize an opportunity (such as Premier and the bus), is a good thing. I also, do NOT think he is an idiot, I respect his accomplishments (in their context). I also believe he has the potential, but that his is driven more by how he appears to his peers than his local stakeholders.
I would like to know of things that HE initiated, on his own, not necessarily that he personally seen to completion, but concepts and ideas that he initiated, beyond the extreme enforcement of a church like appearance (such as removal of banners that only blocked the view of someone in the rafters) and atmosphere in the field house.
The new arena (remember, part of the master plan made while he was selling fishing supplies) is very nice and has awesome potential, it simply is cathedral like and has no character, and only efforts against it obtaining one.
I doubt there is anyhing he could have done that would cause an approval rating from you.
Several times you've mentioned him selling fishing supplies (prior to coming to Plattsburgh) in a derogatory way, as well as his degrees relating to religion and divinity. I'm not sure I understand your point in bringing those up as it relates to this discussion.
Oh, his local stakeholders are the athletes at Plattsburgh.
Competence is measured by more than ones academic accomplishments, a minister is a leader, and certainly Brucey’s ministerial studies included courses in leadership, administration and management.

This is state of the art:
