Plattsburgh State 2010

Re: Plattsburgh State 2010

OK, Minnesota managed to pay to have a really nice mall built which is still standing.

This is of paramount importance, specially to athletes of the female gender. As a parent with daughters, know full well that often the out of town mall trip seems to be more important than the away hockey game.

Gophers should use this feature as a recruiting tool. :D

Hey Seyless...how's the weather down there?

Heard it never rains in Southern California, but girl don't they warn ya? It pours...man it pours.

Good thing there are plenty of bloated ego's there that can be used for floatation devices. :)

Re: Plattsburgh State 2010

Thanks for thinking of me!! I've never seen anything like this! Steady downpour since Friday...no reprieve...12" of rain here...7-9 FEET of snow in some mountain areas near here...all since Friday!! I can't stand it...I'd rather have snow to be honest...at least snow LOOKS nice!! This is dreary and depressing...something like Elmira's season so far!! ;)

Well, Mr Griswold...games in hand?? My D's rookie year, they had 15 rookies and took it right to the national championship game, so your rooks got a ways to go yet. Should be an interesting new year. Hope you have time away from the ambulance chasing to enjoy your Christmas season!! Have a good one Clark!

I think the competition across the board has increased ten-fold since your daughter's freshman year. Back when your daughter played, RIT was not in the league, Norwich wasn't around. Amherst wasn't good. Trinity wasn't good.

In the East, there was Middlebury, Elmira, Plattsburgh, and Manhattanville and that was it.

Now there are atleast double that of quality teams in the East. Sure you've got some real clunkers in the ECAC East and the bottom half of the ECAC West. However, other than that, there aren't many cakewalks in the East anymore.

Sure the top teams still win 90% of the time. But it used to be 99% of the time the top teams would only lose to each other. Now it seems like every week a "middle of the pack" team is knocking off or tying a ranked team. That never used to happen.

You seem to conveniently forget this argument whenever you start in on the "Elmira dynasty" a number of years ago...:0

There's no doubt that the competition Elmira faced in their four glory years isn't anywhere near what D-III is now today.

But, I'd still wager that Laura Hurd, LeAnne Denman, Jackie O'Neil, Edith Racine etc would still be studs in today's game.

Re: Plattsburgh State 2010

Is it safe to say that DIII schools are making more of a commitment to their hockey programs (female) in that, although no athletic scholarships offered, are attempting to run their programs more like DI schools do? Better coaches, facilities, dressing rooms, hype, etc? I notice plenty of transfers from DI to DIII. Another thought is, maybe players (DI bubble players) will start considering going to DIII schools that offer solid educations knowing that won't sit for 1-2 years before they start getting minutes.... As for many of them, they may not be playing high level competitive hockey 4 or give years from now. NCAA is their NHL.... Feedback please? Thanks!

Re: Plattsburgh State 2010

I'm looking forward to some good games this weekend. I hope some of you fans get a chance to make it down. Make sure you get there fairly early we're hoping for a pretty big crowd.

Re: Plattsburgh State 2010

Great series this weekend girls!!! Congrats to Mandy on two solid, solid games!! Would like to hear an analysis of the games. Sounds like the ref kind of jobbed us at the end of game one, but that's to be expected. Was Mandy wearing sunglasses in game two to deflect the sun in her eyes from that arena/tanning salon at RIT? They should either ban afternoon games there or shade the windows at the end of the rink somehow.

Anyway...great series girls...

The NCAAs are WIDE open this year. Any one of five or six teams could win this thing. Gonna be fun to watch.

Re: Plattsburgh State 2010

The ladies got to play in front of two huge crowds last weekend at R.I.T. Lets hope they get a big crowd at home for the "Pink the Rink" weekend. Throw in the fact that both the men's and ladies are playing Oswego this weekend is more incentive for a big crowd.

Re: Plattsburgh State 2010

The Lady Cards win 2-1 - Lakers sole goal came on a 5x3 power play.

The pink uniforms and Oswego's green made the rink look like a basket of flowers ;)

Playoff implications for Cards, Middlebury
COURTNEY LEWIS
Press-Republican Plattsburgh Press Republican Wed Feb 09, 2011, 02:23 AM EST

Kevin Houle said Tuesday he hopes his Plattsburgh State Cardinals have the same kind of energy tonight that they showed the last time they played Middlebury.

Then, smiling, he added that he hopes the Panthers have the same type of game they had last time, too.

But he's not really expecting that.

Plattsburgh State beat Middlebury 5-0 Jan. 3 at Stafford Ice Arena in a game that was atypical for the two powerhouses. It was the largest margin of victory by either team in 19 meetings. They're more accustomed to squeakers — three of the previous four games went to overtime.

The Cardinals (15-2-3) visit Middlebury's Kenyon Arena tonight for their last nonconference women's hockey game of the regular season.

They expect the Panthers to have the shutout in the back of their minds.

"I think they'll definitely remember that," Plattsburgh State goaltender Mandy Mackrell said. "So it will give them motivation. I think it's going to be a really good game. It's going to be a close one."

Both teams come into this contest on seven-game unbeaten streaks. The fifth-ranked Panthers (15-3-1) have won all seven of those, while the Cardinals have a pair of ties.

Besides Plattsburgh State, the only teams that have beaten Middlebury are Amherst and Elmira.

Because both teams are in the East Region, the winner will get a boost in the NCAA Regional Rankings, which help determine the Division III tournament field.

"Certainly there's a lot at stake," Houle said. "Middlebury's been on a roll, I think, since (the January game), especially as of late. So it's a big game certainly for end-of-the-year seedings and that type of thing."

Julia Ireland and Grace Waters each have 17 points for Middlebury. Lexi Bloom, who is 12-2-1 in net, leads Division III with a .956 save percentage.

Both teams started their backup goalies last time — it was the consolation game of the Cardinal/Panther Classic — but Bloom took over in the second period.

Houle said Mackrell should be in goal for No. 3 Plattsburgh State tonight, and the senior netminder is glad to get a chance to face the Panthers.

"I definitely love to play them because they're just a good team," Mackrell said. "They're not dirty. They like to play hockey just like we do."

The game will be the Cardinals' last against a top-5 team until the postseason. After today, they have four ECAC West games left.

"We've talked about it's important that we play well going into the playoffs," Houle said. "And obviously our goal is to come up with five wins and head into the playoffs on a positive note."
