PK 2018 - Who do you have?

Re: PK 2018 - Who do you have?

Sydney Baldwin from the Gophers, with a lot of shots blocked, a lot of points for a d, and some monthly WCHA defensive player of the month awards.

I've got Sydney pencilled in for top 10 finalist.

plus she's a senior, they can't have all freshmen and sophs in the top 10.

Re: PK 2018 - Who do you have?

Since everyone seems to look at scoring stats for this …
What I see is that in each conference (except WCHA) there are players that have significantly higher scoring than the rest:
Hockey EZ: Watts & Lonergan
ECAC: Gabel & Giguère
CHA: Howard
Indies: Moreland
It would be tough to simply include the top two scorers (Maltais & Roque) in WCHA and exclude those right behind them.

Here is the average scoring for each conf:
Hockey Least: 2.74, and BC scores 1 and 1/4 more goals than its closest competitor
ECAC: 2.43, Clarkson scores only ½ goal more than its closest competitor
CHA 2.18, and RMU scores one more goal than its closest competitor
WCHA 2.54, but Wisco barely outscores its two closest competitors despite being consensus #1
So along with the above players, I think Campbell deserves consideration too (especially if you go by USCHO stats, 46-2 W-L and 16 shutouts!)
clearly, a goal scored in one conference does not equate to a goal scored in another conference (and even moreso, comparing team to team).

And which D, if any?
Lewis has gobs of goals but plays for an indie, Miano has lots of points but plays for a team that scores a lot, same for Harmon, … and no USCHO writers, …Skarzynski does not man the blueline. But as someone has already mentioned Baldwin does.

I would still vote for Lee Stecklein. :)

Too many ill advised passes and other miscues by Baldwin especially early in the year. She's been much better lately though and would get my vote for team MVP as of today.

My very uninformed list but also based on team standings.

1. Watts - BC -> Solid #1, no one that close
2. Roque - Wisc -> stick that stirs the drink
3. Lonergan - BC -> may take votes from Watts
4. Howard - RM -> Best player on ice every time I watch her
5. Sauve - OSU -> Almost (only because she does not score) singlehandedly wins games
6. Bach - BU -> Scores a lot, team is not good which will affect her. But is a senior. Set BU career goal record.
7. Zumwinkle - Minn -> Getting better and better
8. Gabel - Clk -> very underrated
9. Dunne - OSU -> Best D in the nation
10. Wildfang - Colgate -> Another very underrated player

Re: PK 2018 - Who do you have?

I think Campbell has to be in the discussion, she has ARD type numbers. She has a more composed style than ARD (not good or bad, just an observation) and will probably be around 12 shut outs. Roque makes a move or 2 a game that you just shake your head in wow belief.

Sauve looked bad in Madison, but maybe she was injured? UW snipped her, but one game does not make a season. The rematch in Ohio will be fascinating. That could be an PK elimination series for either goalie.

Re: PK 2018 - Who do you have?

If I was voting, based on what I've observed: 1) Bach, 2) Lonergan, 3) Watts. Next forward in the running would figure to be Gabel. Highest goalie in the voting should be Tiley. Sauvé is the most likely in the top 10 from the WCHA. It would be nice to see Vanišová in the top 10, but how many HEA players get a nod?

The Buckeyes looked bad period.. Sauve was excellent the following day if I recall stopping close to 50 shots. Campbell is a good goaltender but needs to be tested to be in the conversation. If Sauve stays healthy for the remainder of the season, she will be in the top 10 but not likely a winner. If Watts keeps playing like she is, it’s a no brainer.
