Ottawa has used all 3 of their free agency slots, signing forwards Emily Clark (Wisconsin '19) and Brianne Jenner (Cornell '15) and goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer (Harvard '16) to 3 year deals.
As long as the players know what each other are making and can use it in negotiations I'm not concerned if the public knows...but maybe my attitude towards is it misguided and there are factors I'm not considering as to why it should be akin to an open recordWhat are your thoughts on them not disclosing salaries?
edit: anyone want to educate me on how it works in the nhl? Is it truly public data or does it just get disclosed all the time so it’s like it is? I’m aware of sites like capfriendly.
Seems to me that the salaries should be public information if the players really care about supporting one another. Keeping things private seems to once again only be protecting the national team players and the girls that know each other super well. I don't imagine the girls coming out of college or former PHF players trying to get a deal are going to know what these other players have signed for. So their negotiations will certainly be hurt if they can't get full information. I agree with you that if there is a way for ALL players to find out what other players signed for, that is all that matters. But I haven't seen any evidence of that yet.
Hailey Salvian of The Athletic says terms aren't being disclosed "per the PWHL Players' Association". So either the players want it or not only did the owners demand it they demanded the players take the bullet when asked about salary info, which I can't see them bothering to do that. Then again they tweeted out a photo of Maschmeyer signing an obviously blank piece of paper as her "signing photo" so these people might not be dealing from a full deck...Unfortunately, they are working for a monopoly. They likely are complying with the desires of the ownership group, who have already shown themselves to understand the value of asymmetrical information.
Minnesota's 3 free agent signings announced...
https://thehockeynews.com/womens/pw... announced, and Minnesota native Kelly Pannek.
Minnesota signing Kendall Coyne Schofield, Lee Stecklein, and Kelly Pannek sure makes them look like they're off to a great start!
And the final free agent is not Harmon but Canadian defender Micah Zandee-Hart (Cornell '20) who signs with NY. Zandee-Hart is the only signee of the 18 free agents who is signing with a club outside her home country.Latest rumor is that Savannah Harmon has an offer for the last FA slot (with NY) but she may not be the only one they're talking to
Now all eyes turn to Natalie Darwitz as Minnesota will have the first pick in the player draft...
