Penn State Child Abuse Scandal - Revived

Re: Penn State Child Abuse Scandal - Revived

Just stretching the boundaries of the organization is all and was looking for an organization with a pretty solid rep already to test.

If you don't want to deal with opinion and hypotheticals...then you are free to leave.

Similarly, you are free to offer "opinion and hypotheticals" beyond the level of a slow-witted middle schooler.

Remember, certain posters think that certain hypotheticals are attacks on their lifestyle. Regardless of how random a the choice of a solid reputation organization is.

One wonders if the KKK was chosen, he would react the same- since they don't allow gays and they, too, are religious based (according to them, at least).

Or maybe a better hypothetical- the Mormon Church. Same restrictions (which is obvious). Is that now a bad example, since it's now political?

Penn State was as good as worshiped.

Personally, if ANY organization was found to hide anything like this, they should fry. Again, the people claiming they are innocent are also the ones that the school profits from BECAUSE of football, which means the cover up was to keep their money flowing in.

Smearing, bigotry and prejudice don't make for much of an argument.

Re: Penn State Child Abuse Scandal - Revived

Why are we even discussing this hypothetical? Wait, I get it. BSA won't allow gay scouts or leaders. And they're relgion based. Nevermind.

What if it turned out a senior aide to a POTUS was arrested giving blowies in the DC YMCA and the President sent out a guy he would subsequently name to the Supreme Court to kill the story? What then?
Then I'd call it Thursday.

Was an aide of a soon retired Massachusetts congressman running an escort service out of their townhouse? No problem in DC or Massachusetts.

Re: Penn State Child Abuse Scandal - Revived

Does this and appealing the ruling make way for a possible death penalty?

Part of the punishment was NCAA reserves the right to alter the punishment if new information becomes known.

The idea that political or religious belief would dictate or influence how we would react to high level pedophile activities and coverups is meretricious nonsense. And the insinuation that "conservatives" might be more open minded on the question if the organization involved is "conservative" is even worse. Such as slyly asking the question about the Boy Scouts, given the controversy over their policies on gay scouts and scout masters (with which I disagree). It would seem they take seriously their responsibilities in this area.

What would happen if there's a coverup of a pedophile ring in the DNC, ACLU, SEIU or Code Pink? Why even ask? The only people inclined to cover up or make excuses for this kind of behavior are those involved at the highest echelons. Ordinary people of whatever political or religious persuasion generally respond with revulsion and outrage.

And "escort service" is the polite way to refer to what Steve Gobie was doing. ;) Or the beloved Gerry Studds who stood in the well of the House and said (in effect): "Yes, I'm cornholing underage congressional pages, what are you gonna do about it?" Answer: nothing.

Q: Why don't they let Congressmen into the Library of Congress anymore?
A: They keep bending over the pages

Re: Penn State Child Abuse Scandal - Revived

I don't remember where, but I thought this was already discussed. If the school didn't know about it, then nothing will come of it (from the NCAA standpoint).

They seemed to know about everything else....so why not about this?

Meh. When I was at Cornell, ABET put the engineering school on probation because the curriculum was too theoretical (not enough hands-on design and lab work). The consideration I gave to transferring had a shorter life than a Higgs boson.

+1. not knowing what the issues are, I find it suspect that Penn State is making Sports issue A that is overwhelming the entire university be the casue of accredidation issue B. It's probably that they forgot some paperwork.

If they do remove accredidation due to a sports realted thing, then the accredidation firm needs to be looked into.

Re: Penn State Child Abuse Scandal - Revived

Really? This just sounds punitive. Are we really supposed to believe that the quality of a penn state education is going to dip that much?

I guess I just wonder whats so special about a school out in the sticks of Pennsyltucky. It's not the IVY League, it's not Michigan, It's not Notre Dame. Just seems like second tier average.

I agree. I remember at some point during my time at Tech there was some kerfuffle with the accreditation, and it only took a very minor change in the senior capstone program to get it straightened out. I get the impression that this happens quite often.

Re: Penn State Child Abuse Scandal - Revived

To me the whole accreditation issue is just another outside body telling PSU to "get your **** house in order and focus on what is supposed to be your primary purpose for existing - academics and educating students"
