Patty Kazmaier 2014

Re: Patty Kazmaier 2014

Brandt should be, but I think Minnesota hangover is a very real thing. It would not surprise me if she suffers because of it.

Hasn't stopped them in the past.

Re: Patty Kazmaier 2014

Interesting that UMD has not has a PK winner considering their Championship success.....too many Harvard Olympians to compete against or perhaps East Coast leanings in the beginning.

they couldn't deny giving it to Wendell (or Darwitz) after the season they had and getting beat yet again by a WCHA team. let's face it folks, women's hockey was the province of snooty high SES (some would say the high SES still exists) private colleges until title IX nudged public schools to adopt hockey, and you gotta wonder if the backers of the bill had Canadians in mind when they wanted more athletic opportunities for women

Re: Patty Kazmaier 2014

Wisconsin gives up 1.1/goals per game and the one Badger in the top ten is a forward who is t17th in points?

I'm a little bummed Rigsby didn't make the cut. I think her lost time when injured hurt her and cost her some starts. I hope Desbiens' stellar stats did not hurt Rigsby. It's not Rigbsy's fault her backup is that freaking good. I fully expect Desbiens to be on the final 10 list next year.

I don't think Ammerman should be on the list. I've seen just about every UW home game and she is not dominent like Decker and Duggan were, or Knight for that fact.

Looking at her body of work - other than UND (a split) and UMD (.500 team), work was against lower division teams and only one goalie was a PK finalist this year.....you have lofty expectations.

I do, she's that good. If Rigsby didn't lose a bunch of games to injury, I'm pretty confident she would have made it this year, but who knows. UW is returning a deep team and has some blue chuppah recruits coming in, so I don't see UW's stellar team D taking a hit at all. Her wow factor will be her first year of starting. The next 2 years it will be more expected and there less of a shock and awe as to how good her numbers will be. Plus UW has a history of excellent goaltending, so UW's street cred will help her also. My other bold prediction is that in 2018 it will be Rigsby vs Desbiens for gold.

I didn't mean in terms of back-to-back Patty's - I just mean overall. I think in the rest of the country, there's always a sense of being sick of the WCHA and now there's the Minnesota dominance on top of that and I think this situation where there isn't a clear front-runner sets the situation for some backlash.

To be fair, I have absolutely no basis for this feeling, it's just my gut that there's animosity and an "ugh, we're so sick of them" mentality out there.

I don't doubt the theory at all. I think the hangover severity may be increased by having all three finalists in the previous season from one roster.

Neither Decker nor Vaillancourt were slam-dunk winners and they won the Kaz a year after a teammate, so I sense that the Kaz committee does want to award someone they see as deserving.

This is likely a true statement.
I do like the switch to committee for the final vote. I think I forgot sometimes that it switches as we're talking about this. So my point is probably pretty moot.

Re: Patty Kazmaier 2014

I have to think that this weekend loss to Yale and benching ends Maschmeyer's chances, unless she starts and posts back-to-back 50 save shutouts this weekend and voting is actually after this weekend (as it has been entirely inconsistent whether voting is before or after the conference finals weekend).

That might be difficult given the Top-3 are being announced this Thursday.

Re: Patty Kazmaier 2014

Let's get this thing started.....final 3.....Brandt , Babstock and Rattray.....

if those are the final three I'd have to go with Brandt, nations leading scorer and a better +/- too
I'd substitute Ambrose for Babstock or Rattray though for the final three

but in the end, I don't really care
