Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

No SB!?!?! Well is krafty bob gonna refunds some of these high ticket prices with all his saved money from moss & mankins!!! :(

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

The Globe's Shalise Young just tweeted that Deion Branch may be returning.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Sure, you say that now, but just wait until Randy torches the Jets for 200 yards and 2TDs.

Then gets traded back to New England next week ;)
You may be onto something here... Imagine a player that absolutely owns another team. If you want to stick it to the <strike>Jets</strike> other team, you sign the guy for the week, cut him on Monday, he signs with the next team on the <strike>Jets'</strike> other team's schedule. Repeat as necessary.

Player gets a bonus if the team wins. Otherwise, league minimum.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Somewhere, Stanley Morgan is laughing. :)

Irving Fryar, Troy Brown, Deion Branch... As talented as Randy Moss, hell no. But all very productive. Who was that WR out of Notre Dame who had a first down every time he touched the ball during the Super Bowl years? I loved that guy.

David Givens. I loved that guy.

Did you just have a conversation with yourself?

I would be shocked by this, but it wouldn't be the first time.

The Patriots have looked into the possibility of dealing for Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson, a source confirmed Thursday night.

Talks are preliminary at this point but the idea of the Patriots acquiring Jackson in exchange for Logan Mankins is in play.

Mankins and Jackson are in identical contractual situations. They are restricted free agents in their fifth seasons in the league. Had the expiring CBA not intervened, both would have been free agents last offseason. Both men have opted to sit out rather than play for their tender offers.

Jackson, a 2009 Pro Bowl alternate, was placed on the roster exempt list by San Diego in the offseason. He will have to sit out three games if and when he's traded.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, the asking price for Jackson is a second and third-round pick to an NFC; a first and a second to an AFC team.

Again, it's early in the process and the Patriots are exploring several possibilities for shoring up their receiver corps in the wake of the Randy Moss deal. How serious their conversations are, we'll soon find out.

He technically could if he has time machine access. :D Or if he's talking to a parallel version of himself.

Or if he has Multiple Personality Disorder. Or if he cloned himself. Or if Jon, the physical entity, was having a converstaion with his "Self", the mental-spiritual entity.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Lost in all the Moss hoopla is how the team played Monday night. I liked what I saw.

The D in previous games seemed to play tentative, played 'scared' (of making a mistake?). Monday night, they played a loose, aggressive, attacking style of game and looked very good in the process. They forced their game on the Dolphins and made things happen.

Am I ready to anoint them Super Bowl champs? Not even close. But the emotion shown by the coaches and players after that game is very encouraging. The young D and special teams got a huge boost in confidence Monday night, and I think it will make a difference for them going forward and help bring them together as a 'tight' unit.

Credit Bill Belichick.... he played the 'no respect' card and the team responded. It's them against the world, and that's a very powerful motivator that they can draw from for the entire season. Good stuff.

Jon and Jon do it...:D

conversationally??

Me, myself and I declare you all winners.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Seems like a lot to give up for Branch, doesn't it? Oh well, better than drafting Justin Rogers or Garrett Mills in the fourth round, I guess.

I know I've been critical of some of the personnel decisions they've made, but if the Patriots ever came off a bye week and ran an illegal first play from scrimmage that no one on the coaching staff realized was illegal, I'd probably end up in the hospital. Plays like the Vikings' opener last night, which they had two weeks to draw up, make me appreciate the value of having competent adults running the football team down in Foxboro.

I'm all for it. Its one of the better moves they've made in years. Now they can convice Ty Law to come out of retirement, as he's a definite upgrade over Butler/Arrington. ;)

Seriously though, the Pats need to get impact players now and de-emphasize mid level picks that may work out once in awhile. Trading a 4th rounder for an established receiver who knows the system and QB works for me. They already have another 4th round pick, and essentually this is Maroney for Branch. What they need to do at the end of the year is package more of these lower round picks (really anything below the 2nd round) and move up the draft to grap immediate impact players, preferably at RB and defensive line. Brady ain't getting any younger. The window is the next 5 years. All you can reasonably expect to get in this round are kickers, punters and offensive linemen, none of which are a critical need for the Pats. Set up the team to win now, not 5 years from now.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

For a league in the trading deadline usually comes and goes almost unnoticed, the Pats have been dealing like a baseball team! Three trades, all featuring big(ger) names (Maroney was supposed to be the featured back, so trading him is kinda big news).

Seems like a lot to give up for Branch, doesn't it?
It's essentially the 4th rounder they got in return for Maroney, so not really.

Brett Favre's just a big kid out there, having fun with the boys! He plays the game like it's one big game of two-hand-touch. I'm sure he drew that play up in the opening huddle, just to have a little fun, loosen everybody up, get the new guy involved, make him feel like part of the team. And, not to make excuses, but Brett's got that tendinitis-dealy in his elbow, so maybe finding someone else to throw the ball occasionally would be a good thing. But, he's just doing it for the guys. Having fun. Big kid. Wranglers.

I'm actually scared the league will suspend him over the text messages incident, breaking his consecutive games streak, forcing him to play for another 20 years to rebuild it.
