Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

What kills me about Meriweather is that he's been in the League for four years and never seems to get any better. He strikes me as a guy who gets as far as his physical ability can take him because there's nothing upstairs that works in his favor. Ship him out in the offseason, for sure.

And on that Chung/Arrington tackle, I guess now they're saying it was Chung, which is what it looked like to me originally. Big, big play.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Oh woe is us!!!! We only won by 4 over a team that knew if they lost their season was ovah!!!! Why didn't they lay down like dogs!!! Oh so worried over so much!!!! Arrrrggghhh!!! These guys better shape up and win every game by 30pts from here on out!!!! Aaaahhhhhggggoonnnnyyyuuyu!!!!

If Wes Welker was going to pick a game to suck in, I guess yesterday was a good day for it, man did he suck. Good the Law Firm and Woodhead were ready to go:)

I think saying Wes "sucked" in yesterday's game is a bit harsh. Not his best game ever, but sucked? C'mon man. Look at the game stats....he was 3 for 6/19. Gronk had the two td's but was the leading receiver with 54 yards. None of the Pats receiving corps lit it up yesterday because the Pats ran the ball so much.

He dropped 3 gimmes, all for 1st downs. Maybe its because he's normally so money that I'm not used to seeing him drop those kinds of passes

Uncharacteristic drops, yes, and he was not happy with himself but not game changers either. I think he has a big game next week against the fish. You are right when you say Wes has been money since he arrived in New England. One of TB's favorite targets for sure.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Reiss/ESPN intern Mike Rodak put the following list together:
One of the unique aspects of the Patriots' success this season is the number of players contributing who entered the league as free agents. Counting players on season-ending injured reserve, the Patriots have 21 players in that category.

The breakdown (* player on injured reserve):

First round (8)
OL Logan Mankins
LB Jerod Mayo
CB Devin McCourty
S Brandon Meriweather
RB Fred Taylor
DL Gerard Warren
DL Ty Warren*
DL Vince Wilfork

Second round (11)
DL Ron Brace
WR Deion Branch
CB Darius Butler
S Patrick Chung
TE Alge Crumpler
OLB Jermaine Cunningham
RB Kevin Faulk*
TE Rob Gronkowski
OL Matt Light
LB Brandon Spikes
OL Sebastian Vollmer

Third round (3)
OL Nick Kaczur*
WR Taylor Price
WR Brandon Tate

Fourth round (5)
K Stephen Gostkowski*
TE Aaron Hernandez
OL Rich Ohrnberger
S James Sanders
CB Jonathan Wilhite*

Fifth round (6)
OL Dan Koppen
P Zoltan Mesko
RB Sammy Morris
OLB Rob Ninkovich
OL Quinn Ojinnaka
WR Matthew Slater

Sixth round (4)
QB Tom Brady
RB Thomas Clayton
DE Eric Moore
DL Myron Pryor

Seventh round (8)
OLB Tully Banta-Cain
S Josh Barrett*
DL Landon Cohen
DL Brandon Deaderick
WR Julian Edelman
S Jarrad Page
DL Darryl Richard*
DL Kade Weston*

Undrafted (21)
CB Kyle Arrington
CB Leigh Bodden*
S Sergio Brown
CB Tony Carter
OL Dan Connolly
LB Dane Fletcher
K Shayne Graham
RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
LB Gary Guyton
QB Brian Hoyer
LS Matt Katula
OL Mark LeVoir
S Bret Lockett*
DL Kyle Love
S Brandon McGowan*
OL Stephen Neal*
WR Wes Welker
OL Ryan Wendell
LB Tracy White
RB Danny Woodhead
DL Mike Wright
Along these lines, NE has the first pick in the second round on the Friday night of the draft, with Denver and Cincinnati's wins clinching that spot for the Pats. That trade with Carolina worked out perfectly. Oakland will be a middle-of-the-round first-rounder, and the Moss trade will bring a top-eight third-rounder if Minny loses out.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

This should probably be filed under "let's not get ahead of ourselves," but this hadn't occurred to me and it's interesting (from Mike Reiss's mailbag):

Q. If we end up with both the 32nd pick in the draft (either by winning the Super Bowl or by trading down) and the 33rd pick (from Carolina) could we formally "pass" on our 32nd pick to end the first day of the draft, thereby moving both picks to be the first two of the second day (in hopes of increasing the trade value of the 32nd pick?) -- Larry (Dallas)

A. I don't see any reason why that couldn't happen, Larry. Interesting thought.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Ron Brace heading to IR Monday. Spikes, back from his suspension, will take his place on the 53-man roster. This marks Brace's second season and he has not produced much, considering he was taken with the 40th pick in the draft.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Nice to see Hoyer move the team. Quite a throw and catch

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Stupid Boston.com won't update on my Blackberry. It still says 38-0 with 14:33 in the 4th. Final score?

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

A) because I really only want/need the Pats score, and

B) this is my work Blackberry so I don't think I should be loading this up with personal apps. It's bad enough I use it to come here. :)
