Pretty good considering there are 4 Belorussians in the NHL, and two are hurt (Grabovski and a Kostistyn).
Note: I posted this before he said it.

Re: Part III of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or how I Learned to Stop Worryng & Love Curling

so its:

2012: London
2014: Sochi (within spitting distance of only 3 war zones!)
2016: Rio (stabbiest city in the Americas!)
2018: Annecy, France; Munich (I think after the last Munich games almost started WW3, we can tell Munich they've had their one chance); PyeongChang, South Korea
2020: Long list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Summer_Olympics . Can we tell Doha and Dubai to cut it out until we can be sure our female athletes won't be stoned to death? And Tulsa, you're so cute. I think you may be the only city less palatable than Baku.

I'm betting South Africa for 2020. Isn't Doha where one of our major bases is at? All the women's events will take place on the base itself to allow enough security.

I'm thinking after this summers World Cup, the world will want to stay far away from South Africa.

Holy crap. I didn't know the twin cities almost got the 1996 bid. I'm putting my support behind them. The twin cities is a fantastic location if I do say so myself. We're like a bunch of canadians, just not canadian (so it's a win-win).

If it's a disaster, it'll give FIFA a chance to yank the Rio 2018 Cup after 4,210 acts of murder, assault and grand theft larceny occur at the 2016 Olympics.

Pssh, i have no idea where you live but I'm going to assume that the twin cities is better. A safe assumption in 99% of the cases. :D

But seriously, Tulsa, Boston, and Detroit?

Tulsa is ****ing tulsa. Detroit is the second stabiest city in the americas and couldn't afford it if they pooled the collective state output for a decade), and boston is universally hated by everyone who isn't from boston or isn't a d-bag. The only thing boston has going for it is the bear from the bruins commercials.

edit: just so everyone's clear... joke. (sort of, I hate boston)

2018 is between France, Germany, and South Korea.
Germany would be a lot of fun. France would be hilarious to make fun of for two straight weeks.

The South Korean city has already bid twice though and come close. It also has the advantage of preventing a Euro double dip after Sochi.

Sadly Brazil gets the World Cup in 2014, so its the test run for Rio :(

I would double over with laughter if Detroit was seriously considered (which they won't be, of course). Right now, they can't even get their corrupt ex-mayor to cough up his restitution payments.

Detroit can do brief stuff like the Super Bowl and Final Four, but any Olympic bid is a joke. It certainly hasn't stopped them from trying though.

Oh. So less American deaths and more European deaths. Got it.

For all the talking they are doing about Belarus' "president" loving hockey so much, I'm pretty sure they didn't dig enough to see that he is Europe's "last dictator" (Russian backslide pending), provided passports to Saddam's deputies, sold arms to Iraq and Iran, and is not allowed to travel to any western countries.

Granted, but the Olympics have a long history of not caring about any of that stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a strong "don't talk about politics" provision in the IOC's contract with NBC.

I was far too young to appreciate lillehammer. i think that was the first or second winter olympics I ever watched (that I can remember)
The two things I remember about Lillehammer? Anchorage was third in the voting (as opposed to Albertville cleaning everybody's clock). :(

And Tommy Moe. :)

Anchorage 2024! (Yeah we'd be a long shot...)

The sports media hated the SB in Detroit. It was an economic disaster since everyone was afraid to go downtown after dark. Tulsa would bore everyone to death. Boston isn't THAT bad, but the locals are arrogant (my brother lives there). The northern Euros would feel at home but the latent racism would not reflect kindly on the US.

Granted, but the Twin Cities lack a certain sex appeal a lot of the international contenders might have. God forbid it has to go up against Tokyo or Paris for 2020. That said, if the other bids are any indication, it only has to beat out Boston to be the US representative.

Wake up America! The curling is back on. US women vs. the Canadian cougars. A win for the US puts them in reasonable contention for a spot in the medal round.

Ski cross? Did we really need another event like this?
