Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

Anyone else tired of this team ******ing away games that they should win? Lining up over the center on a punt? Really? Was this rule not talked about during training camp?
Charles Woodson has not played up to his usual self...Dom Capers went to the zone defense too much...Packers definitely ****ed another game down their leg.

Ugh, another tough loss for the Pack today. Anybody else think that McCarthy might me on his way out in the not so distant future? I understand this team is banged up and miss a lot of their key players, but it seems like at least some of the losing is caused by poor playcalling.
At least the Bears lost too, I guess...

I would think McCarthy has to be close to being fired. I think a couple of issues stem from him, the lack of discipline and poor playcalling that you mention. Even with the injuries, this team should still be able to win. But McCarthy's questionable playcalling, especially with a lead have helped to lose a few games.

I think everyone would be better served to save the weeping and gnashing of teeth for a little later. Still just a game out in the division, and though they're 3-3, all three losses have been either in OT or in the case of the Bears game, at the gun. Some of the reserves have stepped up quite well (Jackson appears to be servicable, the likes of Bishop, Raji and Williams had good days on a decimated defense) and the offense really hasn't hit its stride yet.

If they win two of their next three to get to the bye 5-4, they'll still be OK.

I can't fully disagree with that, but it's week 6 and the offense at times looks second rate. I think it's poor coaching on McCarthy's part for some of the problems. I'm frustrated because even with injuries, this should be a team that's far better then a 3-3 record, so I do still hold hope. I am hoping McCarthy proves us naysayers wrong and corrects the problems.

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

I don't know, weren't they 4-4 last year and coming off a loss to Tampa?

I'm definitely not in panic mode yet.

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

I think they were just making up for the previous 4th and one spot that prevented the Dolphins from getting a 1st down.

Yeah, that was pretty ridiculous. I don't know what they saw there.

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

And.....exhale.

For everyone that wants TT to trade for a big name running back...Brandon Jackson carried 13 times for 58 yards (4.5 average). It doesn't matter who the running back is when the game plan has Rodgers throwing two out of every three plays. McCarthy needs to learn to stick with the run a bit more. Here are a few other things that confused me about the game McCarthy played:

* Two straight fourth and one dives to Kuhn?
* Throwing the ball 15+ yards down the field on 3rd and short (at least twice I can think of).
* With the Vikings offensive line performance this season, didn't seem like we sent more than four rushers more than a couple of times.

Liked the aggressiveness on the fourth down calls (if not the actual calls themselves). Thought the fake FG was a great call - Quarless just fell down. McCarthy looks like a genius if he makes that catch (and he was wide open when he fell down).

This has been the Pack's MO for years. And it still angers me greatly. Need 2 yards? Lets try for 20! But....a win is a win..........so I'll take it.

Some guy named Starr, with the permission of some guy named Lombardi, used to air it out on third-and-1 and fourth-and-1 all the time.

I saw the Quarless play and thought it was a step in front of him even before he goes down.

I haven't been talking on here much lately, but on some Wisconsin boards I've been making this point for over a month so I totally agree. They don't need to give up any draft picks for a big name to run a few times here and there, pick up a few blitzes on 3rd down, run a screen or two, and keep Edgar Bennett company when they go 5 wides. Lynch made sense in theory, but if you look back over the last 3 or 4 seasons they have been in the bottom third of the league in rushing if you take out ARodg's rushing yards from scrambles. This is from a team with a winning record who has been ahead much more than they've trailed. I'd love to see more running but I give McCarthy credit for realizing who he is and what he wants to do.

The win obviously felt great. Much credit to the two lines. The Vikings tossed around the Packers o-line twice last year but they were completely controlled this time around. The Packers' d-line was so undermanned without Jenkins and Neal the entire game and Pickett for most of it. Yet Wynn and and Wilson held up nicely and seemed to stay strong as the game went along. When one needed a rest they went to their modified nickel with only 2 d-lineman and they held up OK against Peterson. Barnett has been a good player for a decade, but ever since he got hurt Hawk and Bishop have elevated the ILB play well above what we've seen out of it at any point in the past 1.5 years in the 3-4. I don't hold any illusions of grandeur for this team with this ridiculous amount of injuries and they weren't completely void of deficiencies coming out of camp, but somebody has to make the Super Bowl in the NFC and if they can turn some of this injury luck around why not them? All 3 losses have been last second field goals. I know some think they got lucky Sunday night, but it wouldn't take that much luck to be 7-0. Again, I don't think they are a great team by any means but they could easily have a darn good record.

To partially steal a phrase from a vikings player...the last time I checked, 13-3 gets you into the playoffs ;)

Ugly, but effective.

Great win yesterday against a top AFC team. Good effort by the defense - hope to see the offense turn things around soon.

One more game until the bye week. Hopefully they don't overlook the Cowboys. 6-3 heading into the bye, with a more difficult schedule after the bye.

I was hoping they'd go 2-1 in this three game stretch - now, I'll be upset if they don't go 3-0.

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

They let a couple get away you'd hoped they wouldn't with those close losses, but they got one back yesterday. I had this game at maybe 35 or 40% before the season started and had it down to maybe 20% max with the injuries, so the win in any shape or form is awesome. I know the Jets weren't very good on offense, but shutouts in the NFL aren't easy as evidenced by this being the first one all season. To get one on the road against a playoff team with some of the guys they have filling in is nothing short of amazing.

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

Nice to go into the bye week with a three game winning streak. I just hope that field goal that Crosby clanked off the uprights vs. Washington doesn't come back to haunt us. At 7-2, we'd have the best record in the league and some separation from the rest of the division. Still, I'm happy with 6-3 and a chance to get a bit healthier during the bye week.

Thought they did what they needed to do last night. Came out, played hard, and didn't give Dallas any reason not to quit on the game. A couple quick thoughts:

* Felt like we are starting to run the ball a bit more. I know we aren't going to be a power running team any time soon, but I think they're starting to run just enough to keep the defenses honest (and to allow the play action to be more effective).
* James Jones looked good last night - still not sure I trust him in any extended action. Had a fumble early last night (good thing Nelson recovered) and dropped a slant route inside the 5 (probably would have been good for a touchdown). Definitely need to see some more consistency out of him.
* Heard Al Harris was going to be released today - sad to hear. Not sure I agree with the decision, but I'll trust TT and MM to make that decision (after all, we're playing with a number of back-ups already, so I'm impressed with the depth they've built on the roster).
* Great pick by Shields last night - what a great pick-up he is looking to be.
* Sign Tramon NOW - it's only getting more expensive.

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

I was sad to hear of the move with Harris, but I was happy to hear him now get a shot with the Dolphins. I was expecting the Vikings to be the Ellis Island for yet another former Packer. He was a great guy who always competed, but I ultimately can't disagree with the decision to not give up on a young CB (Underwood or Lee) or a core special teamer who can be versatile on D in a pinch (Bush) to keep for a half season a 35 year old CB coming off a major knee injury who won't contribute on special teams and probably isn't going to be any better than the dime CB. He would have been great insurance if one of the top 3 got hurt, but backup CBs have to contribute on special teams so without an injury he might have been a gameday inactive. There seemed to be a difference in what McCarthy said he told Harris and what Harris heard, so that was ashame for a guy who was a great soldier for so long.

Al Harris sends a 'Thank You' note
In a classy and touching move, former Green Bay Packer cornerback Al Harris thanked Packer fans for supporting him during his years with the Green and Gold in an advertisement in Sunday's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

In the ad, which appears on the back page of Sunday's Sports section, Harris thanks the "Packer Nation" for making his experience in Green Bay "simply amazing."

"Thank you for making one of the coldest places the warmest place," Harris' note says in part.

Harris, who spent seven seasons with the Packers, was released from the team on Nov. 8, nearly a year after suffering a major knee injury. That was the same day in which his time on the physically unable to perform list was to expire.

Harris, who was acquired from Philadelphia in a 2003 trade by then general manager Mike Sherman, started 102 regular-season games with the Packers, missing just 10 games over his seven years dating to the start of this season.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Harris had 14 interceptions as a Packer.

After being released by the Packers, Harris was picked up by the Miami Dolphins.
