Oswego's Neil Musselwhite up for D-I Frozen Four Skills Challenge

Re: Oswego's Neil Musselwhite up for D-I Frozen Four Skills Challenge

I could watch that one over and over. Like he said " fired out of a cannon"
is spot on. Still my favorite Lakers jerseys as well.

Really? I was never a fan of those yellow jerseys at all.

I miss the anchor jerseys of the past.

I also thought those yellow jerseys would have a looked a lot cooler with a big O on them. I remember talking to Woodward when they were being designed. He was hoping for the anchor too.

You poor misguided soul.
Considering you said this was "domination" at the Xcel, I'm not sure that people here should put too much stock in your credibility.

Unless the Devil's Advocates decided to dress up like empty seats, at least. I will say their F bombs were a nice touch though.

Well every person in that photo was a Stout fan, perhaps having assigned seats where everyone is grouped together would have been more to your liking?

Instead of using photos that show nothing of consequence considering the venue, allow me to ask this. Your implying St. Olaf had a better showing at the X over UW-Stout in terms of fan count, loudness and students in attendance?

I don't see any mention of St. Olaf. Sounds more like he's implying that the Stout student section isn't as good as you give them credit for.

I can't say that I really disagree considering there are maybe 50 students in the designated "student section". Not that great of a turnout for a trip that's only 70 minutes away (thank you google maps) and is in a professional arena. I'd be shocked if the Rowdy Crowd and Oswego faithful didn't at least double and probably triple that.

I read the article in the d-iii section by Matthew Webb and it said attendance was 1400 that day and 1200 of those were Stout fans. Having 5x the number of fans seems pretty 'dominant', but that's just me I suppose.

Re: Oswego's Neil Musselwhite up for D-I Frozen Four Skills Challenge

Done and thanks for the link.

Off topic, when do you think the Oswego Womens team will begin to be more competitive? Tough division I know, but.....

I'm not surprised- or dissapointed- yet. Starting up a team from scratch, I figured it would take quite a few years to get competitive. Unless lightning strikes it's incremental improvement, a little every year.

Norwich started a women's program and they are now in their third season and are miles ahead of Oswego, who's in their fourth.

They made the NCAA tournament last season and gave Elmira one heck of a run in the NCAA quarterfinals (lost 3-2 but outplayed them in signifcant portions of the game).

Norwich doesn't have anything that Oswego doesn't have.

The only difference is the ECAC East isn't as strong as the ECAC West but I would have thought that Oswego could atleast be competitive and beat Utica or Neumann by now but they haven't.

I didn't expect a national championship or anything but with the resources and rink Oswego has they should be at worst fourth in the ECAC West by now.

I will totally disagree that the "rowdy crowd" could double the students we had there, they don't seem to travel well, case and point the Stout vs Point weekend earlier this season, none of them showed.

Just because they didn't show up at the Dunn Co. doesn't mean they wouldn't show up at the Xcel - I think even you can agree there is no comparison.

But, I think he was referring to the fact that the RC or the OSU fans would show up in much larger numbers to a game in an NHL arena given such a short travel time. It's almost 4 hours for them, whereas it is an hour and a half for you, WCS (worst-case scenario).

I don't know. Never been to a game in Menomonie or Stevens Point (or the West Region, for that matter). But I'm pretty sure I understood him a little differently than you did.

Cards,
I understand what you are saying and i can't speak for any east coast team cuz i am a midwest guy, but lately the rowdy crowd has seemed to be dwindling down from where it was at one time, and even if they were as close to the Xcel I'm not too sure if they would travel that well.

You're right atleast from what I've heard, seen, etc that the Rowdy Crowd isn't what it once used to be.

Most of the members of the Rowdy Crowd in its hay day are in their 30's now or older.

I obviously have never been to a game at Stevens Point but I have seen some youtube postings and they have had an impressive crowd for at the games that made it up on youtube.

Certainly the crowd isn't going to be like the SNC game every night but they still look like a boisterous bunch and they stand during the whole game unlike the Oswego student section.

Show me a D-III crowd nowadays that beats this:

As a matter of fact, the RC has been this big for every.... every home game this year. Point is the top ranking western team in attendance at 1239, second is Norberts at 1125. Even on "off" nights where the attendance is closer to 1000, the entire student section is full from the pep band, back behind the goal all the way to the Point bench(reference for those who have been at a Point game). That's probably about 500-600ish students.

The RC was especially charged up for the Superior games, and it'll be the same for the games on the 13th and 14th.

Re: Oswego's Neil Musselwhite up for D-I Frozen Four Skills Challenge

What does any of this have anything to do with getting Neil into the skills competition?

Well I look forward to seeing all 500-600 of them on the 13th. I've heard some DA's will be making the 160 mile trip to stir things up in the section.

I figure the DA's want to set a good example since the RC was a no show at the Dunn after being invited.

Okay. From the perspective of a UWSP student (which I am not, just speculating), I would have looked at the games in Menomonie like this:

*It's 160 miles away. That's about 2-2.5 hours, so I've got leave by 5pm on friday. But who's to say I don't have classes until 6 or later? (Don't know about UWSP, but it happens here at Siena)
*There's a game on Saturday as well, so either I fork out the $$ for a hotel, or I fork out the $$ at the gas pump by driving a total 640 miles (160 there, 160 back x2).
*It's a week before thanksgiving break. Teachers enjoy giving tests in that last week, to make sure we're leaving on good footing. (again, don't know about UWSP, but it happens here at Siena.)

Now, from the Stout student travelling to Stevens Point:

*One game, on a Saturday. No issue.
*Middle of February, generally no issue with testing (for the average college professor)
*This game has MUCH more playoff implication than the other did.
*Is the entire DA also going to Green Bay the night before? I doubt it unless none of them have afternoon Friday classes (or they just don't give a sh*t about the schooling, in which case I have no respect for them at all).

You can't tell how well a team's fan/student section travels based on one game or weekend series. Sorry.

Nailed it right on the head.

VOTE for NEIL!

I heard Stout fans make West Virginia basketball fans look like angels.
