Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

WHAT A WEEKEND...:D...Good to see a few guys from the past 1 who posts on here as well, and the good to finally see the guys at WNYO and WTOP, hope ya liked the shirts....The platty game was a blast I really cant say more than has been said but here goes..the fans were good at best and I know I got my 2 cents in for better or worse...the reffin, never up to par, end of 2nd period b.s,first call was marginal at best, second call was obvious and third call was a COMPLETE DIVE, and the penalty should have gone on platty but the refs got caught up in the moment,i wonder if they watch tape after and learn from it?? They blew a few calls both ways, end of story...One of the biggest things that stood out to me as a former dman is the problems PLatty's dman had making passes thru the neutral zone, I could count at least a dozen passes that got knocked down or intercepted on their own blueline and in the neutral zone...Special teams dont need to say anything....Both teams took the body pretty well I thought...goalies, platty may have let in a soft one??? but he kept them in the game at the end of the first when he stopped, I believe it was Titanic on a breakaway, keeping them in the game,he gets beat there and its 3-0 going into the 2nd, they need to pick him up after that and didnt...Hare stood on his a few times but platty didnt have the quality chances that they usally do, perhaps Craig will help next time, hope not:D...The Oz dmen played excellent very few passes intercepted and very few men left open IFO the net..Oz forwards played a 2 way game and it showed dont think platty had more than 2 or 3 oddman rushes while Oz had many....Platty,#39 Docking was very good played well and he took a blast that sent'em to the bench but he came back, tuff kid they need more of that type of play.. Also by the end of the game the Platty dmen were gassed, could barely make it to the bench a few times, as another poster said, the Lakers role 4 lines and it wears teams down ....I think IF,yes Remy thats a BIG IF, we play platty like that again next time.........WE WIN.....ps the potsdam game ,could have heard a pin drop in there, ugh, it was louder btwn periods when they had puck shooting, and the mini zamboni...

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

That semi-close urban media market that could barely muster a quip at broadcast's end about the Bagel Game, and all the while fondling themselves over roundball, Syracuse's name is mud to me now. I fart in their general direction.:o

My sarcasm meter is functioning;), but that WAS a disappointment - I've heard more commentary from Rochester about the Whiteouts than Syracuse.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I didn't have to look far to find the last time we posted back-to-back shutouts. the last time was January 4th and 8th, 2011 against Skidmore (2-0) and Curry (3-0). They were done by Dan Jones and Andrew Hare respectively.

And I understand not everyone likes basketball. I, for one hate the NBA and I live in a city that has a franchise. My reason for the OZ Hoops post was 1) pretty remarkable event, 2) my alma mater no matter what the sport 3) nice to see another program other than hockey have success, they deserve some run too but obviously the wrong forum.
Funny post and I am glad to hear news that Rochester covered it-my old home town. Shame on Syracuse.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Steve Infanti the sports director for NewsChannel 9 did mention it on the 11 pm broadcast the night of the game. Albeit it was a small little blurb, but hey at least it was something. The point is Syracuse basketball runs this town and everything else comes after it. During the winter the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) are relegated to the back seat during sports broadcasts and can't remember them ever talking about the Silver Knights the MISL team.

It comes to no shock to me that the Lakers would not be mentioned that often. Especially when said Orange b-ball team is 27-1 and has the best start in school history and record ever. Of course they would get more face time just something we have to deal with. I have complained many of times to them and the newspaper in the city to cover the hockey team to almost no avail. Lindsay Kramer of the Post-Standard has done a few nice pieces on the team this year and in the past but always comes near the end of the year when we are in the playoffs. Apparently that's when they care or want to focus on this team.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Oswego State men's ice hockey players Jon Whitelaw (Jr., Huntsville, Ont.) and Andrew Hare (Jr., Burlington, Ont.) have been named the SUNY Athletic Conference Men's Ice Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 20, 2012. The top-ranked Lakers moved to 21-2-2 overall and pushed their conference record to 14-0-2 after defeating Plattsburgh and Potsdam last weekend.
Whitelaw posted three points on two goals and an assist to help the No. 1 Lakers clinch the top seed in the upcoming SUNYAC playoffs with wins over Plattsburgh and Potsdam. Whitelaw netted the second goal of the game and assisted the final goal in a 3-0 win against Plattsburgh. He added his second goal of the weekend while on the power play versus Potsdam for the 3-0 victory. Whitelaw is tied atop the conference scoring list with 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists.

Hare posted back-to-back shutouts to push the Lakers' winning streak to 11 games. Hare registered 27 saves in Friday night's win over fourth-ranked Plattsburgh for the first Laker shutout against the Cardinals since February 13, 1998. He backed up that performance with his third shutout of the season by making 19 saves in a win against Potsdam. Hare leads the SUNYAC with a 1.51 goals against average and .938 save percentage in league play.

But when was the last time it was done by the same netminder?

I couldn't find an instance of it occurring on College hockey stats so I would have to wonder if it has happened before. Joe Lofberg holds the school record for scoreless minutes at 165:13 but oddly enough only one of those games was a shutout.

The last time Hare gave up a goal was 6:46 in the second period against Buff State. By my math, that's 153:14 scoreless minutes. Incidentally, the D-III record for consecutive shutout minutes was set by Kyle Jones of St. Norbert in 2006.

337:22!

That's just incredible. Norwich's Chris Czarnota had a streak of over 225 minutes this year IIRC, I'll have to go back and look at it here at some point and submit it to the NCAA to see if it ranks in the top 10 all-time.

225 would be 4th best all-time. I just dug through the D-III record book (I was bored this morning) and found that Hare's current streak would put him 14th all time right now. By the way, Kyle Jones was an absolute STUD. On the scoreless list, he's 1st, 3rd, 4th, 9th and 13th.

Here's the Top 15 all time as of before the start of this season:

Ryan Scott had a shutout streak of 163:27 near the end of his Senior year that doesn't appear on that list.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

as long as no one scores on him in the first 45 seconds of the game he'll move up from 14th to 12th maybe more depending on how long he can hold out.

I was meaning the fact that Oz has laid eggs in the semis over the last few years.

Maybe it wasn't official? I'm not sure, but Lofberg is the only Laker on the list (until now). HERE is the link to the record book. Consecutive Shutout minutes is on page 6. Incidentally, Hare's current GAA of 1.64 would put him around 25th all time.

If they keep playing the they have over the last 3 or 4 weeks, I'm not worried. As long as we score 1 more than them. :)
