Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I've already trained the little one to say "Open your eyes ref. Your missing a great game!" So proud.

Don't you Utica fans need alcohol to be loud? :D

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Spoke with former All-American Brendan McLaughlin tonight and we talked about his exploits over in Germany. He is doing really well over there and is up in the lead for points. He has 33 goals and 16 assists. He tells me that he does pass lol. I told him it is good to know that you quit your acting job.:D Apparently someone got a hold of one of his Oswego jerseys over there and they asked him to sign it the other day.:D

His stats can be seen here

Another former All American Ryan Ellis is also doing well for himself over in England and his stats can found here:

Yes, be we don't have to sneak it in like you guys do. :D

It's much cheaper that way. They are college students so they have to stretch that dollar. :D

UCBadger, just picking is all. No harm meant by it. Hope it's a good game. Hope to see you there.

The Fun Police took care of that sadly. I wanted to do vuvuzela night when Emery and Platty came to town. :D

Oh trust me, we will be there. Rest assured, a whole bunch of us will be making our presence known. Too bad your student section might sound like crickets compared to their usual rowdiness since school is not in session yet.

Yes, we do like good hockey. No, we do not need alcohol to enjoy it. You want to see some good hockey? Get the hell down here to the AUD and we'll show you what 3,000 fans can do.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

If you plan on attending I would set out early from Utica as it is supposed to be some dicey travel around the lake shore this weekend.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

It has been far too long since jumping into the fray. Unfortunately, work kept me from being able to watch Laker games on the weekends in the first semester and I didn't want to say anything I couldn't back up after seeing with my own eyes. I've been keeping up with this thread and I hope to be able to catch more of the games from now until March. I'm also going to try and make my first trip to the CC this weekend since the 2010 SUNYAC Championship game.

Just wanted to address a couple things real quick:

Gosek needs to send a message, and with the Plattsburgh JV team coming into the Campus Center Friday. They (Oswego who is 14th) will be entertaining the 25th and 27th most penalized teams in DIII next weekend. I think its time to start calling on Gosek to start making examples of players. Oswego deserves to see better.

I absolutely agree that Gosek needs to send a message to the team, Remy. He did do that in 2007, though, when he sat 3 players for the entirety of the NCAAs - one of them being the 2nd leading scorer on the team. That was another case of putting yourself in a bad situation, albeit on a much greater scale. It was a good call by Gosek then and hopefully he'll do the same now.

There are a number of academic and need based grants that all students are eligible for...which may in some cases equate to room and board, but as a rule, there is no straight "free room and board" program for just being out of state...which is different from International....so while the student from Windsor, CT has a number of options, they are not the same as the student from Windsor, Ontario. And of course, all this has to conform to NCAA standards...

Lou, I'm not sure what the figures are, but I always thought that Oswego had a pretty large contingent of international students on campus, especially given that Hart Hall is known as the "International Dorm" (at least it was until 2009). I remember having classes with several in my time at Oswego and I don't really think many international students came to Oswego for the broadcasting program - not that it was/isn't an excellent one. In terms of SUNY schools, does Oswego rank near the top for having students from other countries?

Brenden and I are friends on FB so I was able to see this gem when he posted it. Not only is he scoring lots of points, but he is quite the mascot:

Sounds like WTOP and WNYO are in great hands with Justin Andrews and Mike Keely. Great to hear and keep it up gentlemen.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I don't think Smrke has even been with the team during break. I can't say that I have seen him along the glass during games or in the stands and it looks like from facebook he was home during all this. Maybe he was just given a break to recover by Eddie and be with family as a ACL tear is a nasty injury. Paulie has been with the team, but I can't tell you how his recovery process has gone that would be for the media to ask him.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

As far as I know, we won't be seeing either of them this season, but the injury situation is always very hazy... we don't get a lot of distinct information.

Agreed. Colleges have taken the New England Patriots approach to the reporting of injuries. One of my friends covers a D1 school and they got upset with him for tweeting injury info, but it was only being reported as a lower body injury.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Any info on possible transfers? Will we be seeing any new faces this weekend?

It's also technically a HIPPA violation from what I understand.
