Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Lakers looked fine tonight in their win - a little disjointed at times, looked to me like they missed Josepher (injury?).
Hare was very solid in goal, made a nice stop on a breakaway. Should be a good game tomorrow against Neuman.

That was going to be my question, where were Josepher and Van Boxmeer?

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I would assume that they were healthy scratches. They were going against a 2-6 team and I think Eddie wanted to get his freshmen so more looks. The opportunity was there to pencil them into a game against a weak opponent while giving guys like Muise, Singleton, Ayotte, Josepher, and HVB a night off. They have all played in at least 9 games. I don't think that Josepher has got a break yet either. With the depth that this team has you have to sit out a couple of your starters every once in a while to keep the other guys happy. I saw Josepher on the other side of the glass tonight and he looked fine. I talked with Hank and he seemed fine as well. I would expect to see all of those guys in the lineup tomorrow as bigger bodies will be needed up front.

By the way for those who were not there, the Lakers wore there alternative jerseys again. Maybe they wont have to be burned in a cleansing fire after all. If they wear them tomorrow and win then I will like them a lot more.:D

They are STILL butt ugly...

The black alternates they wore against the Under 18 USA team (that had Cam Fowler, Kyle Palmieri, ie) and Morrisville back in 07-08 were sick. I wish that they would bring those back, but they met the fate that these yellow jerseys should have met after this years Mo'ville game. Must be Timmy told Eddie that he had to make the boys wear them again. I know Eddie's thoughts on the black one's after tanking against Mo'ville in 08.

I have Selleck's. :)

Those jerseys were cursed though. If you remember we tied or lost to Morrisville the night we wore the blacks...we lost to the US 18U team and we lost to Plattsburgh with them in the SUNYAC finals or the regular season game up there.

Yeah the black ones were awesome!!!

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Derek, we tied Mo'ville in them and yes lost to the US-Under 18 team. Then again Cam Fowler, Kyle Palmieri, Ryan Bourque, Jeremy Morin, ie were all on there and have seen time in the NHL already. I don't think it was the jerseys that night lol. I don't remember them wearing alternates in the SUNYAC Finals that year though.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Disappointing I guess is the word. Lakers were certainly still in it after two periods and had a golden chance on a break away by Ayotte early in the third but it hit the crossbar. After that the bad penalties started and they had no chance. Goalie for Neuman certainly deserves to be the MVP - Lakers just could not get anything past him while it was still a game.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Neumann played a very solid game and deserved to win. Oswego committed way too many dumb penalties. You'll never win when you get 3 misconducts in a period.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Just curious - when is the last time Lakers were shut out? I don't remember them putting up a zero at the Campus Center since it's been open.

Courtesy of Adele Burk's recap (Oswego SID)

"In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, the second-ranked Oswego State men's ice hockey team (10-2-2) suffered a 3-0 loss to 11th-ranked Neumann University (9-3-0) in the championship game of the Pathfinder Bank/Oswego Hockey Classic Saturday afternoon. It marked the first time the Lakers were shut out since January 18, 2002 against RIT in a 5-0 decision."

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Thoughts on the game summed up in 3 words :

Listless
Shameful
Frustration

It was a good ten year run of not getting shut out at home at least. Congrats to Neumann as they deserve to be the champions and as to the Lakers make me proud to be a fan again in a few weeks. What a complete meltdown and was unbearable to watch the team play like that. That is NOT the Laker Hockey that I have grown to love over the last 8 years. Win with class and lose with class it's that simple. Man up guys. As for those wondering of a ranking change I could bet that they will be 5th in the next poll maybe as far down as 6th. Not that any of that ranking crap matters anyway at this point.

By the way nice to see that Murphy and Bell were two of the ref's. If I'm under the correct assumption Bell is the younger guy that gave Mather the misconduct. He has been shaky every time I have seen him. The other two I have never seen before.

Neumann capitalized on their chances, Oswego did not. MacKinnon faced some tougher shots in warmups than he did in the game. Too many weak wrist shots with no traffic to beat a guy with four years of experience and a national title under his belt.

As for the stuff in the third period, I don't like to see them get frustrated but the misconducts were a bit harsh in my opinion. If a guy got thrown out every time he broke a stick in frustration none of the teams would have finished a game with a full bench this weekend. The Brown charging incident was a bit uncalled for but I an willing to chalk it up to frustration with their play and the officiating, lets hope we don't see much more of it.

The consolation game was a dandy with Hamline's captain taking a ridiculous slashing and contact to the head penalty to erase a 3-1 lead. The Camels looked terrible on the power play in overtime but JJ McGregor scored a beauty in the shootout and Andrew Margolin made a great save on Zach Johnson to preserve the shootout victory.

You stole a little of my thunder. Shooting right into a goalies gut or directly at his glove hand are not going to get you goals. The other half of the shots like you said were weak. I'm a little shocked that they didn't try to go low on McKinnon to his blocker side. Why keep firing point shots right into his bread basket? They need to take more shots with traffic in front or try to pick a corner. I don't know how many shots went over the net tonight. By the 3rd you could read it on their faces how frustrated they were with not being able to push one by McKinnon. Ayotte and Rodrigues both looked up to the ceiling after they missed on good chances. Gertsakis slammed his stick on the ice after a flurry of shots did not produce a goal early in the 3rd. Their frustration caused them to press even more creating bad shots that did not even end up on net. They needed to slow down and let the game come to them. That's were a great team leader should come into play and coach his teammates.

The other problem that I knew would come back to bite them is their ability to let teams get underneath their skin. Well played Neumann as Morrisville had used that tactic against earlier this year and that worked out in their favor as well. So, the loss was (IMHO) a result of McKinnon's solid play in net and undisciplined play on the Lakers part.

Btw I couldn't resist

I have been wondering why Doc Baker (the team doctor) was not around the team this year and finally saw him tonight. It appears that he has not been well and I wish him all the best. He is a great guy and has meant a lot to the program and no one sees him as he works behind the scenes. All the best Doc.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Gotta wonder if Coach will step in and releif Mather of the C. I believe that he has 3 game misconducts. Your Captain is one who rights the ship and makes everyone tow the line. He isn't doing that. The team surely needs a leader and I hope some of the younger players steps forward to take the reigns.
Two of the last 3 games have been very difficult for the Lakers. Things will only get tougher with conference play starting. After tonight the Lakers better figure out how to not loose thier cool for they will only face this style by the opposition more ofter the word will or has gotten out.
