Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Part II: Hockey Never Sleeps

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Part II: Hockey Never Sleeps

It's far from the first year we've done football, but the kudos are appreciated all the same... any live sports that pass the time until hockey are welcomed greatly! (Next football broadcast 9/14)
"Rick Charles" called Oswego State Football in the mid/late 70's on WOCR - the predecessor to WNYO....;)

Just wondering, how much longer is class AA Oswego High School going to play class A football? I understand they are rebuilding, but this has been going on for several seasons. I know this past weekend Carthage put a thumping on them. When you play down you cannot qualify for playoffs. To me this has to be a negative for the program.
Oswego High School Football has never been any good and probably never will be. Being ineligible for the playoffs isn't a negative. When I went to school there they didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs anyway. Think of the famous Jim Mora quote, "What's that? Ah -- Playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs?! You kidding me?! Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game!"

Ok, tell the Lakers they cannot qualify for the playoffs and see what kind of season they have!! To me that is what it is all about! Playing to be the best. As fans we have helped make it that way. AND to say Oswego HS football has never been any good and never will be, WOW! Build it, make it better! Get coaches that care and will do the job!!

We could talk about this all day but I would rather not get into the plethora of reasons why Oswego High School sports are for the most part a joke.

I get what you are saying about playoffs. Like I said they were no good when my Uncle played 50 years ago, they were no good when my dad played a season 35 years ago, they were no good when my cousin played 20 years ago and they were no good while I was at school 10 years ago. They were eligible for the playoffs that whole time. If you took playoffs away from a perennial contender like the Lakers it would hurt them, taking them away from a doormat just means now they don't have to make excuses as to why they didn't reach the playoffs.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Part II: Hockey Never Sleeps

Just a note I thought some in Oswego may find interesting. Former Oswego Goaltender and National Champion Ryan Scott announced today that he is retiring from Professional Ice Hockey. Ryan played for the Lakers from 04 - 08. Earned many SUNYAC and All American awards and set an NCAA D-III Championship game record for most save in Oswego overtime win against Middlebury in 2007.

"Today I am officially retiring from professional hockey. I made this decision due to a chance for a new future and issues with my hip. Even though I'm not playing anymore I want to thank the Mississippi Riverkings for giving me the opportunity this fall. I also want to thank any teams I've played for in the past. Especially the Pensacola Ice Flyers, the players and the fans there. I had two great years there and have great memories that I will never forget. I appreciate everyone who has supported me over the years and thank you for making my time in pro hockey special. Thank you."

I see that Justin Gilbert and Denton King are attending school so I would say they are here and there should be no changes for this year. But, next year will be very interesting how we recruit.
