Oswego State 2009-2010 Playoff Disappointment Thread

Re: Oswego State 2009-2010 Playoff Disappointment Thread

You can't blame anyone in a single elimination game. Anything can happen. I think the best team won. Can't believe any coach would point fingers at his players after a 1 goal loss. It's a game of breaks they usually even out in the end. Oswego probably would beat St. Norbert's 9 out of 10 times but this was number 10. Gosek is right just brush it off and come back next year. Unfortunately some college coaches think it's all about them. Plattsburgh has choked in the clutch the last 2 years (2008 and 2009)with a lot of different players but the same coach. Maybe he's the problem. Somehow this year a little team personality snuck through. I think their team motto is "The beatings will continue until morale improves".:D :D

I'm sorry, but you're talking about the third-winningest active coach in DIII hockey. You're talking about a coach who took over a team literally days before the regular season began, and did well with them that year. You're talking about a coach who had to suffer a post-season ban on his team in his 2nd year, because of the mistakes of his predecessor and the community, through no fault of his own. You're talking about the coach who came off of that ban to interrupt the run of national Championships by Stevens Point. You're talking about the coach who coached his team to another national championship in 2001 against an undefeated RIT team. You're talking about a coach who has proven time and time again that if there is a strategy that will win a particular unlikely matchup, he will find it and his players will execute it. Does he always win? No. Does/Did Gosek, Beaney, McShane, Blaise, Brooks, etc? Nope. But they are all good coaches who are constantly aware of what's going on with their players, what those players are capable of, and how to use those capabilites to get the win.

Last year, Hince wasn't focused. Whether he was already in Placid, or already in Tulsa, we'll never know. But his head was not in the Ronnie B. That's why we "choked" last year. And that team that we "choked" against went on to win the national Championship.

This year, we did NOT choke. This year, we were rebuilding after having lost most of our offensive firepower, and were not expecting a Final Four (please disregard the preseason poll, that was mostly an assessment of last year's performance anyway). But Emery got them there, and it was apparent that any of these 4 teams could have won it with just 1 more lucky ounce their way. All three games were a 50/50 crapshoot. The Cards lost by 1 in a hard-fought game against a 1st-Team All-American goalie and 3 other All-Americans, who went on to win the national championship.

Yeah, those two losses were TOTALLY Emery's fault...

Jealousy runs deep apparently....

Are you sure it isn't Beaney's fault. :p

So the reason we didn't beat every team was because morale increased, otherwise the beatings would have continued

Re: Oswego State 2009-2010 Playoff Disappointment Thread

Well at least the Oswego Lakers can say this... shut out Plattsburgh, and (whiny, excuse laden) Plattsburgh can't go all bravado "yeah well we're national champions."

Was at the Dancing Bear in Placid at the bar near Valdez oil spill head Emory and he was still up to his usual making excuses and pointing fingers and laying blame like he always does on the players or this or that call. Nice to see he's as classless in person as he is in the rink blaming everyone but himself.

Very different than the scene at Wise Guys a couple hours earlier where Gosek, instead blaming his players for the loss or coming up with excuses was humble, saying it was a team game and he was very proud of his players for the team getting this far and happy.

I don't know much about these people. I should have made myself clear that I was referring to the above statement. Which IF true is disturbing. You people seem to be very close with the coach and know him personally. I don't. My remarks were made tongue in cheek and perhaps I should have been a little more direct with you. Some people don't get subtlety. I don't know who this Hince is. You seem quite passionate and I don't want to become the target of your ire. Please enjoy your team, they had a great run. But don't treat them as if they are pro athletes. I think some posters I have read here sometimes forget that these kids don't even get scholarships. Some of you can say some very mean things about theses kids and their abilities. I'm sure most of you have never participated in any sport at a high level and get a vicarious thrill out of bashing people who can't identify you. I meant no disrespect and should have realized that things written here are often distortions or outright lies and that goes for everyone

VERY rarely, on this board, does anyone say "very mean things about theses kids and their abilities", occasionally someone (or even some cowardly alias) will try, but the true fans of the sport, do not let them get away with it. I'll admit, Emery will "call a spade a spade", and perhaps his emotions lead to wording his criticism a little “less than total political correctness”, but his methodology is far from a secret, and his success among the best of the best, any student-athlete that accepts the honor to play for him without doing sufficient research of what they are accepting, bares the bulk of the consequences.

I thought this was an Oswego thread. Also are you a senior at Plattsburgh ?
You should open a book if you are. You seem to be spending too much time on the internet.

By the way that was an actor on Saturday Night Live not Governor Paterson. By the way that was a joke too.

You are only 45 mins from Montreal, there is a Pro Hockey team up there. Go critique them they get paid handsomely for it.

gotta agree with ya, probably 3/4 of the posters never stepped out on the ice in College or HS for that matter.........these players r kids, and I was 1 of them at 1 point, be it awhile ago and I know how they feel.......I have not seen much or any abuse towards the kids on this board at all , usually positive if anything.... Keep up the good work posters

  I don't know how this all started. I thought this was the best D 3 Frozen 4 in memory. Congratulations to all participants. You all did D 3 hockey proud. Let's all give a tip of the hat to both players and coaches, who all did a wonderful job bringing all their teams to this level. Three one goal games, think all coaches should be proud and happy with their teams. See you all next year.
